Forgotten Cake gone Stale

Oh Dear! What can I do with a chocolate cake that has gone stale? It hasnt been decorated, so there is not icing on the top or cream in the middle.
I have thought of a couple of the obvious solutions such as chocolate pudding....so smother it in chocolate custard. And chop it all up into bits and use it as the base of a choccy trifle (Yummy by the way)
Does anyone else have any good ideas?
Thanks

Hello sweetie....I completely understand livin on a budget and that you just don't waste food....so my suggestion is to make it into a cherry jello cake. What you do is take a toothpick and poke holes down to the bottom of the cake ....make cherry jello and pour it over top of the cake, lightly, don't over do it and make it soggy. Put the cake in the fridge to set the jello. When you take it out, put a light layer of cool whip on the top and you will have a yummy, chocolate covered cherry jello cake w/ a light topping....good luck!

This is a great idea and tastes good too. But, you can also do the same method with pudding too. We call it pudding cake here and love it - especially if topped with the cool whip and chocolate sprinkles!

This idea is absolutely fantastic! I love this idea....and i am probably going to do this tomorrow.
I love the idea of having a small amount of cream on top...I might even put on some chocolate shavings.
Thanks for this inspiraltional idea! :-))

You can perk up stale donuts by putting them in the hot oven for a few minutes. I am not sure if that would work for cake. But it wouldn't hurt to try it. Be sure to frost it soon after though so the air doesn't get to it again. Possibly microwaving it briefly with a cup of water next to it in the microwave. Maybe putting some water in a baking dish in the regular oven might help also. Otherwise, maybe crumbling it up and using it for ice cream topping or crust for ice cream cake or some other dessert.

Crumple this in a mixie[whip it lightly] and keep these chocolate cake crumbs aside.Add plenty of dry fruits,[chopped] , abit of dessicated coconut, some biscuit crumbs , some sugar, and use this as filling for a Dilpasanth.
This Dilpasanth made in our bakeries is a sort of a sweet puff.It is round in shape and looks like a big round stuffed Pizza[ it does not taste like a Pizza -only the shape .]
THis is normally cut into 4 parts and is aerved as triangular pieces. The stuffing is seen as a sandwich.YoU CAN call it a kind of sweet sandwich.

Hi
I am from India and though I do not know hindi really well I gather that 'dil ' refers to heart and 'pasanth ' is something you desire
I do not have the recipe for the puff. But you just imagine how it would be if this filling is sandwiched between two sweet bread slices and toasted or a filling as a layer between two large biscuits
After all kitchen is our empire and all are at our mercy-as long as the form is not recognisable and the filling is tasty no one would protest. Many a time I have realised that my make shift dishes, and left over delight which has changed its original form beyond recognition taste the best.

Wow....yes....I see what you mean.
Thank you for explaining that little bit of the Indian way for me, it is very interesting to know where names and words come from.
It sounds so wonderful and even romantic! :-)

This sounds really interesting and different to anything I might find in England.
Where abouts do you come from? Dilpasanth isnt something I have heard of before, I have to admit but it does sound very nice indeed :-))
I cant think how I would make the puff though?

Is it stale or just dried out? Stale I'd throw away but if it is just dried out this might give you some ideas:

Oh dear! I dont think you have the idea of saving waste and living on a budget really do you?
The trouble with society as a whole and one of the reasons behind the facing recession is the attitude that things are easy to replace because somewhere along the way, people have lost the value of money and no longer appreciate the smaller things in life.
But if you can afford to throw away a cake that you spent time and money on, good for you. I, on the otherhand, cannot afford to do that and so have asked on this forum for some help.

I'm sorry but i haven't baked or decorated a cake yet. The only help i can give you is what you can put on top of your cake. If you want, you can put some chocolate syrup on top of your cake, just put it like you're putting it over your banana split ice cream. Or crushed some oreo cookies and spread it on top of your cake, chocolate and white chocolate chips will do too or candy sprinkles. Some strawberries to decorate your cake will make it more yummier. Hmmm what else...Ah!! Do you have a fresh flower from your garden like daisies? You can decoreate it on top side of your cake. I know it's not edible but i find it as a replacement for the icing flowers. I hope i'm helping you.

Yummy yummy! Some great suggestions for toppings there...thanks so much! I especially like the idea of the Oreo cookies....divine.
I like the idea of daisies to decorate too.....but you know what, I have some colourful nastursiums growing that i can use...and they are edible too!
What a good idea...thanks! :-))

why don't you try making cake pudding. Same as bread pudding, but instead of using stale bread use the stale cake. I do not know what other ingredients go into bread pudding, but I think it would be a good alternative than throwing away the cake. Good luck in finding something to do with the cake, good thing you did not put icing on it.

If i can think of something i sure will let you know.
I don't have money to waste either but if the cake is really old then maybe it's the best for it.
