Direct Deposit or Cold Hard Cash

... well a cold hard paycheck. Which would you rather have (or do have)? I have direct deposit at my job now because my money just gets put into my bank account every week! How convenient! I used to just get my checks and then deposit them into the bank myself, but I got tired of going to the bank every week to deposit paychecks.

The truth be told, I probably only see about 10% of the earnings I get in one year. My check is direct deposited. I do all of my banking online and I very rarely carry cash and use my debit card to purchase things at the grocery store ETC. Oh wait, there are a couple of other payments per month that I write cheques for. I may keep a $5.00 bill in my pocket just so I have cash to buy myself a drink or a chocolate bar. Other than that I have money but I never carry cash! I am virtually cashless. It is all done with plastic, usually debit cards, checks and online payments.

My husband got direct deposit to his credit card, and now that both of us are on pension, we get our pensions direct deposited. With this very cold weather, (yesterday it was minus 17 f with wind chill, today it is 1 degree F,) I am not going to walk to the bank, a good almost a mile, with my check. I would rather have it put into my bank and when I need the money, I will go and pick up what I need. Since I do most of my banking online, the only time I need the money is for somewhere where they will not accept check or credit card.

My husband has direct deposit with his job and I would love to have it if my employer offered it. It is so convenient because the funds go directly into the account on midnight.

I wish we had direct deposit still but when my husbands work moved and he found another job that was not one of the perks the new employer provided (come to think about it other then getting paid there is no perks here). I loved that we didnt have to travel in the winter to go to the next town over to deposit his check. Now every Friday, even if it is bad out we have to go and deposit it. I loved direct deposit!

I'd rather have the cash and then decide where I want to put it. Can't help it but I'm really not trusting the banks right now. I would rather have it in hand then watch it fold into oblivion with what ever bank goes under next.

I definitely prefer direct deposit for the same reason. It makes it so much easier to save money when it is already in your account and less likely to lose money that way as well. Most my jobs have had direct deposit.

i would prefer a direct deposit definitely... i don't have time to go to the bank every 2 weeks to cash out my check and usually the money is not available right away to be used anyway... so direct deposit is the most convenient way for me and fortunately my company is doing that with my pay checks... take care and have a nice day...

Direct deposit is much easier for me... besides having that much money in your pocket is not advisable since you can be mobbed anytime of the day... I used to get also my pay check but luckily there is a bank on the building where i used to work...

On my last job I did direct deposit it was more convenient for me because I worked 18 miles from home and some days we would not have to work on payday and I would have to drive the distance just to get my check. I am out of a job now and I am having my unemployment insurance check direct deposit.

I prefer to direct deposit to my bank account. Going to the bank always especially you need to ride at long distance travel was tiring to do. In my present situation I did direct transfer from the place where I need to get my money to the bank it is more convenient and safe from the robbers outside. And with less effort.

yep definitely direct deposit is way better and far more convenient than paycheck in many ways. I also do direct deposits and well it saves me time and energy to do other things other than to go to the bank on a weekly basis to deposit them myself. I said in many ways cos others will prefer to just cash out the check cos they really have no intentions of saving it. Well i guess that's when a paycheck is a faster and easier approach. You do not need to wait for the money to be reflected in an account to cash it out at ur nearest atm, you just cash it out directly. But in all direct deposit is a better choice over cold hard paycheck

For those in the Philippines, Direct Deposit will be the way to go It is safe and if you have a dollar account, you get to choose when and where to exchange it for local currency so you get additional leverage with that. Another problem with checks if they are of the foreign variety is that they take too long to get cleared. in the Philippines, it usually takes 3 weeks to sometimes more than a month. It is very hard to budget for monthly expenses and necessities.

I get direct deposit also for it is a pain to run to the bank every week to deposit the check myself. I must say it's nice haveing my compnay do it and save me some time in the long run.

OMG Going to the bank to cash a check seems so antiquated. I have my paycheck direct deposited and its been this way for at least 15 years, no matter where I worked. There are some companies now that have the option of wages being put on a debit card specifically for the paycheck.

Don't you like direct deposit? You don't have to do anything but just wake up a certain day or date and it's there in your account. Well, you do have to work to earn what you get though. Spend wisely!

I'd much rather have direct deposit but I work for a small business and we don't have that option . With direct deposit the money is just there on payday and ready to use. With checks I have to wait until the next week...One week my check didn't clear from my boss' bank until WEDNESDAY of the next week - which is unusual but still frustrating.

I have direct deposit. It's so much more convenient than having to take a check to the bank or taking it somewhere to get it cashed. Also, if I had my check cashed instead of deposited into my account, I would probably spend it a lot faster too. I don't know why someone would choose to not have direct deposit, unless they don't have a checking account for some reason. But I've had a checking account since I was 16, so that's how long I've had direct deposit.

Well, with the condition here, I prefer a direct deposit to my bank account. Hard cash is great, you feel that you have earn something that you worked so hard for. But, if you look from security perspective, direct deposit is more safer and your spending is more controllable. It's been some time now, from the last time I received hard cash payment. BR
