Yeah! Hey all you mylotters out there this is Opal reporting
from Yonkers, NY! We are finally getting to see our first
glimpse of that white stuff falling to the ground! And it
is actually sticking! It's about time! We might get about
three whole inches. Yeah, it's not much, but since we haven't
had any and it was 60 degrees only yesterday it's nice to
know that we're back to normal! So what's it doing where
you live? Are you having normal weather for your part of the
world or has it been strange too?

Not really, it snowed like crazy here in Las Vegas yesterday.
The mountains around us got lots of snow.
I work close to the mountains so it was snowing pretty hard at my work.
A couple weeks ago it was still 80 degrees.

It does every year but usually only at mount charelston.
Every once in a while it snows in the city.
It's all gone.

I'm in Kansas City and it's snowing here too! We've only had one snow and it was like a week ago or so, but didn't really last long. Monday we got a much bigger snow, probably 2½ inches or so. Still not much for us and it's starting WAY later than it used to! I remember we used to start getting flurries in September or October and by Halloween it was always borderline FREEZING! This year, I was at an outdoor concert in a halter dress that came to about the knee and was actually WARM! We hardly ever had a white Christmas, because it would always HAPPEN to warm up by the 23rd, but it was never this warm this late into December!
As I said originally, it's snowing now and the weather is anything BUT warm. Last week it was in the 60's though and felt great! If it could always be like 65 - 70 degrees outside... that'd be perfect. :)

Hi woolyshamblers! Welcome to mylot! We have been having
very strange weather for NY! It was cold then warm then cold
and like you said it normally is cold and stays cold by
the end of October, certainly November but it has been up and
down and Monday it was 60 degrees and then it snowed a little
yesterday finally! Not much snow, but now they say there is
a storm alert for Friday and possibly 6-12 inches possible!
Who knows? I just want to have a nice white Christmas and
we just might get it!

Hi neighbor! Yes, it finally is snowing! But, I think I got
my hopes up too soon! It's kind of wet and slushy now I think.
It was coming down harder before! I didn't think we'd ever
see a flake the way the weather has been. Yesterday 61 degrees!
That's insane! Thanks for the beautiful Christmas greeting!
I love it! Have a wonderful Christmas! Nice to see you again!

Hi cher~I'm so sorry! Last winter I had to walk with a cane
and take 2 busses each way to go to rehab every day. I had
to take 4 busses total and walk and it was winter and horrible!
So I do know how bad that is! I have very bad knees and I had
sprained one to make it even worse last winter. Please be
careful and take care of yourself.

I can visualize the beautiful scenery you are describing. The rain of snow must be like white cotton-buds falling from above instead of the rain as we are having here. My place is a tropical country and it is hot and wet throughout the year. So never experience winter before. It must be real cold there now and everyone must be wearing thick cloths. How long do you normally have snow?

Hi zandi! It is really beautiful to watch snow falling! But,
only while it is falling! Then it gets dirty and messy and
slippery and then it isn't fun! And it does get very cold here!
It is winter here from November until sometimes March. We
haven't been getting much snow in the last few years so it's
hard to tell what will happen this winter. This is the first
snow so far and it is only a very little bit! But, we thought
we might never see any because it started to get warm again
which isn't normal for this time of year.

Our weather is normal and strange where I live, in south Texas. We have had to cover our plants once so far then it warmed up. The past two nights it has been in the 30's and by saturday it will be in high 70's to low 80's then another cold spell close to freezing by sunday morning. It is typical for down here. Enjoy your snow.

We were 52 on Monday morning and by Monday night it was 16 BRRRRRR lol We have had a lot of freezing rain but last evening we had our fist snow fall of more than a half inch. Hi zephyr! That is a big temperature drop! That sure is cold!
We haven't even seen much of the teens yet! But, unfortuanately
that is normal for us this time of year and I am dreading
that! There is now a storm watch for Friday, a possible big
one 6-12 inches! We'll see!

Merry Christmas dear friend .

Let it snow! Let it snow!! Let it snow!!!
It's cold over here and it's starting to feel like Holiday weather but then again, yesterday, you knew we had the everchanging weather system.
Please make a snow angel for me, Opal!

You've brought back so many memories by this posting. I remember walking to school in the snow. My eldest sister would make the pathway and my middle sister would hold onto the belt of the oldest sister. I would be behind at the baby sister holding onto my middle sisters coat. The snow was fine for a few days but I hated it when it became slushy.
I was always cold as we had coal fires in our house and it was never warm enough. My adopted country is warm and I enjoy the warmth. The wearher allover the world is now strange. Last year we had a hurricane in December which had never happened before. Blessings

Wow. I live in the L.A. area and it was only 42 degrees here yesterday. Our house is in the foothills and we had a huge rainstorm yesterday. When I got up this morning and looked outside, the mountains were loaded with snow. So beautiful. Rain was a welcome sight for us. We've had significant shortages of rainfall for the last five years. Without the rain, everything dries out so much that when we go through fire season, everything goes up like a tinderbox.

It has been a long time since the idea of snow falling made me happy. I was raised in the snow belt and could barely wait to grow up and move awaya to the land of palm trees and high temperatures. We have had a few more overcast days than usual but it has been warm so far. I think we were at 60F this afternoon.

Snow Opal? What's that? Contrary to Christmas cards etc, the English (at least in the south) white Christmas is something of a myth. We get the odd flake and very occasionally an inch or so. But proper snow? I can remember 1963, that was heavy and I think we had some again when I was 12, so that was 1970. 1976 was quite heavy. Otherwise I can't remember a very heavy fall of snow anywhere that amounted to more than an inch or two. Not what you would call heavy anyway. Some parts of England do get more, and other parts of Britain a lot more, Scotland especially. But down here it rarely lasts too long.

Hey p1key! We only got a coating, but is was so pretty when
it started! It was really coming down hard and fast then it
turned to sleet and iced up! Now they are predicting a bigger
storm for Friday possibly 6-12 inches, but I'll wait this
time to see! Although, we are surely due some serious snow!
Haven't been getting much in the last couple of years. Been
awhile since we really had a big one!

Hi Opal, I'm in NJ so I got pretty similar weather to what you had. On Monday I was outside with no jacket on, not even a sweater. On Tuesday, the temperature dropped 30 degrees, and some sleet in the morning changed to snow by afternoon, and it fell until nighttime. It was only amounted to a couple of inches, though. Then the rain got rid of a lot of it.

Hi fluffysue! Yeah, that's what ended up happening too!
I was very disappointed! It started out snowing pretty
heavily and then it changed over after an few more hours
to sleet and then iced up. Now they are predicting a storm
for Friday that may be from 6-12 inches! And now I don't
believe them! But, if they're right we will have a white
Christmas, although by then it will be a dirty white!

I am about an hour's drive north of Toronto so I am about a hundred or so miles north of you. We have had snow for over a month and all the ski hills are open in central Ontario, Horshoe Valley and Collingwood are all still open in spite of the few days mild spell we had. It is snowing again today and have had several inches that had to be blown out of the driveway. I think in all total we have had a couple of feet of snow already. I usually have a good stock of food in the house in the winter time just in case there is a snow storm. The only thing I worry about is the hydro (electricity) going off, while the furnace is natural gas, it still works with hydro for the thermostat and fan blower.
