What do you really NEED this Christmas?

OK, at least here in North America (Canada and the United States) during the holiday season there is a huge focus on commercialism and gift giving. I'm starting to get a little frustrated with all of the advertising and the message BUY! BUY! BUY! I posted a question recently about giving away money to charity. Many people completly missed the concept of my question. So my question is this, what do you really NEED this holiday season? Quite frankly,I really don't need anything. I have a warm place to stay, clothes to wear and food to eat. Perhaps, I am just easy to please and maybe it doesn't take much to make me happy. Now, don't get me wrong there are things that I could use, or that would be nice to have or that I would enjoy. But there is NOTHING that I absolutely need. I'm quite happy with what I have and for the people who love me. In short I am grateful for what I have now. What about you? What do you need to this holiday season? Or alternately what are you grateful for that you already have? Please share your thoughts.

Like you I'm grateful for what I already have - my husband and children. This Christmas though I really need a portable printer. lol I might buy it for myself though since I am not good at asking for a gift I want or telling what I want when I'm asked. The other thing I need this Christmas is for my dad to at least be happy. He has a heart problem and got very weak after his first heart attack 3 mos ago :(

Hi there! thanks for the wonderful post. For me, i just wanna be practical, I need money for this christmas! i mean, you want to give your love ones gift but dont have money ( not just simply not enough but as in no money at all). I want to spend quality time with my family to a nice place that we were never been but no money. I want to give myself a gift for a whole year hard work but of course no money. that's it. of course need and sense of fulfillment is merely different. i need money but being with my family this season, having my family complete this season is more than satisfying. this could happen just once, and i know i should cherish this. maybe, atleast they have money to give me gifts that i want...lol! hope this could help. have a nice day!

hi there wheel416! this is a very good question to ask ourselves this Christmas season, especially now that we've been devoured by the mindset called commercialism. in my case, although i am very grateful to God for everything that He has given me for my whole lifetime, and even before the time i was born (technology, parents, ancestors, current "peaceful" situation of the world, etc.), i still think that i lack several things, and i would like to ask God to give me those things. i think i still need peace of mind, because i always keep worrying about something, or that something bad will happen. i also need to be strong, because right now i am emotionally-weak. in fact, i resigned from my well-paying job all because of a very rude, unprofessional and uncivilised boss. i got too paranoid about getting yelled at even if i didn't do anything wrong, so i resigned. i also need more courage, so that i can go outside more often, stop being afraid of getting robbed or mugged, and start doing more charity work. but, overall, i think i'm very happy with what God has given me. in fact, i'm very grateful to Him because, again, my HIV results tested negative. i was a very bad boy last year, but I'm thankful to God that He still loves me and didn't let me get into trouble. maybe, i just need to remember more often that God is always, and will always, be with me, no matter what happens... =) thanks and have a great day! =)

I am not asking to receive anything this Christmas, but there are things I need more of (not to survive, of course :P). Clothes! I buy the cheapest clothes I can find (I buy most at the thrift store, Wal-Mart rarely, lol), but I never have enough (I've heard some people say that and actually have closets full, I don't). We do not clothes shop frequently. It seems, by the time we go clothes shopping, all the clothes I had are unwearable. So, the new clothes we buy replaces the old clothes instead of adding to them. I am in this cycle of never having enough. It makes me uncomfortable being seen in the same clothes every week. I wonder if people say to themselves, "Didn't she just wear that?" Ehh.

I have a few spiritual requests and conversations to God about things that I would like to see happen. I am praying and wishing everyone a good new years and hoping all my prayers will be answered in help for everyone...and also saying thansk for all the ones that have been answered...

The think that I think of as closest to a "need" right now would be a personall "bail out package" of my own. I need to be bailed out from my credit card debt. I guess as far as material things I have everything I "need". I house over my head, clothes on my back and food on the table. Power for light and hot water. You're right about the focus on commercialism of the holidays. It's really turned into a great big mess. Unfortunately those who realize that and would like to change things are far outnumbered by those who are still buying into the whole commercialized holiday season. At least in my personal experience, when a person has tried to tone down their holiday expenses someone will always accuse them of being "cheap". It takes a person of strong character to not care about being stuck with that label.

What I really need this year is for my husband to find a job. I know that those are in a little short supply, depending on the job market they're in. If we could just keep things going until the end of the year, or even by this summer at the earliest, he might be able to get back to work then.

What I really needed was a new vacumme cleaner. (ok, I may not have spelled that right, stupid brain) So, my guy and I went to Walmart, bought one and looked at each other at the checkout lane and said Merry Christmas. LOL Other than that what I need are two other things. Somebody to come along and buy this place I'm trying to sell so I can MOVE to my new house. And, I need cash - to pay my bills. Unfortunately I doubt either one of those things are in Santa's bag.

What I NEED for Christmas is a Home for my cats, my dog and myself. I have a place to stay but I have to get out of here soon. The lady I am staying with is disabled in a wheelchair. Her father owns this single wide mobil home and he is coming in January. Her brothers think he is coming to kick me out. She said she never told him that I was staying with her. I am having a very hard time finding a place I can afford. I am now disabled and on a very small fixed income. I am also concerned about the move as I did way more that I should have in getting all my things out of my former home of 29 years and into storage. I am grateful for the person who has allowed me to stay with her. I am also grateful that I have several of my cats with me and my dog. I rescued cats for 25 years and worked with the ZHumane Society and the County Shelter and also with The Farel Cat Coalition. I dearly Love Cats and would do anything to protect them. All the cats I rescued I spayed and nutered and found good homes for them. Even I Love Cats so much I will never be without a dog. They are such good friends and good protectors. I am also grateful that I am pretty resorceful and can get things done. I am graeful for the friends I do have online and offline. I am grateful for my Grand Children and my Sons. I am especially grateful that my Mom is still alive and doing pretty well for an 85 year old Lady. My Mom is the best person I know and I Love her Dearly!!!

Frankly speaking, We don't really need a Christmas. But you know, maybe at Christmas, many friends stay together to have a party, and entertainment ourselves and relax ourselves. So people feel really happy, so they really don't mind wether we really need to have a christmas or not.

What I really need, this Christmas and every Christmas, is for my family to be with me. I don't *need* material things...at my age I have everything I need already...but I do need the feel the specialness of the day with the people that I love. Some of my family members live far away so I will miss them on Christmas but I am grateful for those who live down here in Florida with me and for my husband who loves me and who I love.

This holiday season, I am grateful that I have a roof over my head and a sufficient amount of food to eat. I am really concentrating on the reason for the season, not gift buying and receiving. I a unemployed at the present time, and I am happy for everyone who is still able to do the gift buying etc. If I had one wish for this holiday season, I would wish for a job. I have been out of work for six months. things are not getting any better, more people are getting laid off, and there are many hiring freezes. The biggest gift I could receive, is a JOB. Have a happy holiday.

Awesome topic. I really, really need a skull cap. For most of you that don't know what a skull cap is, it's a beanie. Whatever. I have gotten so sick this winter because I lost mine. Thankfully, I have to wait just a few more days until I get a skull cap for Christmas.
