Long story of my internet/computer problems lately - all week actually, but I had to do a factory non destruct restore. I have trying to put AVG antivirus back on. I go to the site, it appears to download, I go to Programs to open it and it says "this application has failed to start beacuase the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstlaling the application may fix the problem" I have reinstalled several times and still this is all I get. Can anyone help me as to how to put AVG anti virus back on my pc? I haven't done anything to the PC - just a factory restore and it still kept most of my things, other than those that I downloaded. It appears to have "kept" AVG, but it is not working. I uninstalled it first then went to re=install from FlippoHippo. Tried another site too. But still, once it says "Installation complete" I try to open it to set it to run and I get the above mesage. Anyone have the low down on how to fix this? I sure would appreciate the help!!!

Have you tried officially uninstalling AVG, restarting your computer and getting AVG from the official AVG site? http://free.avg.com/

Or perhaps the AVG site would have a troubleshooting area.

Yes I did uninstall and shut down and restarted and still get this message. I went to the forum, (since it is free, that is all they offer for help) and did a few things they mention like uninstall Norton if there as those 2 fight each other. So I did that. Tried to reinstall AVG and still get that message.

Look on their site/forums for that issue. Sounds like an MSI problem. I've had something similar before. Make sure your computer is updated through Windows Update.

Just remove your Norton Anti-Virus and it will goes fine for you to re-installing your AVG. That is the only step. If you would like test it before removing Norton Anti-Virus, you try to download Multi Virus Cleaner(MVC) 2008 - FREE at this link; http://www.download.com/Multi-Virus-Cleaner-2008/3000-2239_4-10398550.html If that MVC 2008 able to be downloaded and run swiftly, means the AVG FREE VERSION might have trouble(expired) and I suggest you to download AVG - Pro. Sure will do.

Yeah...pro is the pay one. But never mind no need to use pay one. That is their strategic business once 'free' expired it takes you to Pro one. Actually I'm using four virus cleaner AVG Pro, Avast(free), MVC 2008(free) & Virus Keeper 2009. Last time it happened the same way when I was using free version of AVG and my step really works for me(upgrading to AVG Pro). But I have tested MVC 2008(free) it works just like AVG Pro. That is why I'm giving you MVC2008 link and it size only 1.68MB. Wasting my money upgrade to AVG Pro as MVC2008 also superb.

I did remove Norton first. Then downloaded AVG and got that same message. Is Pro the "paid" one? if not, what is Pro? I'll go look, thanks for the help

Never figured it out, so I went with Avast! free anti virus. Works fine.. I am not getting anything.. at least that I know of! It sends a pop up if something does come up and asks.. continue or abort. Guess AVG needs to fix things or loose customers!

First of all find this file download it and install it "vcredist_x86.exe" then download the AVG antivirus from any trusted site make sure the the avg setup should not have any virus in it.Install it then check out whether it gives that error or not.I hope this will solve your problem.

I think you have a Anti virus already installed in your computer . First try uninstalling it by downloading and installing http://www.revouninstaller.com/ and then reboot your computer and try installing AVG and even after this it is not installing then i think your computer is infected by a Virus which forces Anti virus programs to close . The only way out is to format your Hard disk and install a fresh copy of OS.

Check if you have other security programs and uninstall it or you can also check if you have previous versions of AVG still on the computer, completely uninstall it, use revouninstaller to completely remove it including registry entries and then try installing again.

Did you uninstall correctly your previous AVG? Because if not it may be the problem why you can't install a new one. Checked your computer if there is still your AVG software installed in your P.C. To do so go to control panel hen choose the add or remove programs. You will see a list of installed software in you P.C. If you didn't see AVG, then you already uninstalled it. Try to go to download.com and installed AVG there or you can make a search in that site for other software. Hope this can help you.

Hi, where did you say you installed AVG from? Make sure you download the Avg free antivirus version from this site: http://free.avg.com As far as I'm concerned you shouldn't really download AVG from anywhere other than the main avg site. Try installing it once more and if this fails, restart your computer, hit f8 whilst the computer is rebooting and this will take you to the advanced options menu. Select safe mode or safe mode with networking and try the install process from safe mode. Good luck. Andrew
