Do you go to the movies on Christmas day?

Or have you, or would you? I always thought it was strange that movies would open on Christmas day, but so many do and it seems to be quite a sought after opening day. Do you have a Christmas day movie going tradition? Have you ever gone on Christmas? And if not what would it take to get you to go? I don't think I would go to a movie on Christmas day; I'm usually so burnt out my then I just want to eat cookies and go to bed!

I don't go to movies usually on Christmas Day now, but at one time I was very glad they were open on Christmas Day. My husband worked always on Christmas Day for years and wouldn't get home before 10:00 sometimes at night or, with night shift, he was gone by noon and didn't get home before midnight. We lived very far away from family then in a small town with extremely bad weather, so it was hard to get to the airport usually in our rural setting at that time of the year to travel to see family. So we would usually visit friends quickly that morning or they would come over, he would go to work, the friends wanted to go to their homes and it was a close-knit society so they didn't really invite people to their family celebrations. So the movies then were something I loved to go to. Sometimes my husband would get off a little earlier and we would go together because he'd be too tired for a big celebration.
So for people who work on Christmas Day and don't get off until late, and a lot of people do now, or for people who are alone on the holidays the movies are a very good opportunity to get out and about. Of course, during those times years ago when I went everything but the movies was closed on Christmas Day. Now, where we live, a lot of other businesses open in the afternoons. Some even stay open Christmas Day (which is hard on the workers I know, since my husband worked like that for years).
Now we live near my family and a lot of good friends, so now we don't go to movies on Christmas Day. Not usually (although we may go with friends in the evening this Christmas to see the new Brad Pitt movie) Because now my husband is off Christmas Day with a different job, but I'm still glad the movies are open for those who want to go then (but again, I still feel bad for the workers at the movies or those who work in stores who have to work on Christmas Day).

That's really nice. I guess sometimes we don't have the luxury of being close to everyone we want to be during the holidays. Kinda makes me feel guilty when I dread our family get togethers. It's awesome that people still get to do something fun with other people when life gets in the way. Thanks very much for sharing!

No, I don't think so. Because normally we went to parent's house for Christmas dinner. Of course it is not possible to go to the movie in the same times. Besides, it was long time ago since we could go to the movies. Hardly have any chance nowadays.

I wouldn't choose to catch a movie on Christmas day, probably because of the crowd that rushes to shopping malls would "scare" me away. :D I don't like to get myself in the middle of a sea of people. Anyway, personally I don't think that's the way I would like to spend my Christmas unless there's a really warm Christmas themed movie showing that year. It's because I prefer to be in quiet places with a few closed friends or even just stay at home at chat with those friends who left home to work or study abroad.

I would rather stay in the house w/ my family waiting for my godchildren & relatives than to go to the movie house.

I often wonder about movies that are released on Christmas Day. For me, that day is always way to busy to go to a movie. However I can see why it makes sense for some people. Some people don't have to cook, they just have to show up at a relatives at 5 PM, so they have nothing else to do all day.
I have been to a movie on Thanksgiving, but that was because a bunch of us were done eating and bored. There were quite a few people at the theater too. I guess if you aren't having a big dinner and you aren't going to a million family members houses, then why not?

I have learned to 'never say never,' but I don't think that I would go to a movie on Christmas day. Of course, if none of my children were coming home for Christmas and hubby and I had nothing better to do....who knows! So far all of my Christmases have been filled with family and no time for movies. Of course, that isn't to say that going to a movie couldn't be a family affair....

Never gone to the movies on Christmas day - on boxing day yes but not Christmas. It always amazes me when things in the city are open on Christmas day because in the town i live in..everything closed for Christmas day...sometimes even boxing day depending on the day Christmas falls on.

My work is actually one of those places - We close for the time between christmas and new years BUT its a paid week off because we are open 4 or 5 extra hours a day for the month of December. And quite honestly I'd be pretty grumpy if i had to work 14 or 15 hour days 6 days a week for a month and not get to spend time at all with family. (there's only 3 employees)
If he left the hours as normal and no week off it wouldnt bug me but I do really enjoy the week off however it has seemed the past few days all i do is run between errands and events.

I was just thinking about this the other day! My boyfriend told me that he wanted to go to a movie on Christmas night. I've never done it before, but I wouldn't mind it. We have a pretty relaxing Christmas. It's usually me, my parents, two siblings, and a set of grandparents at my house. We open presents, have a big dinner, and then just relax and play cards or whatever.
I guess it might be more of a time to see a movie with your family as opposed to seeing one with friends.

I have come to notice that many movies in the past seem to like to come out on Christmas day. I, myself, haven't been to any movies on christmas day. I have been known to pop in a movie that I recieved though. That's not anything new or special though. I hear you though on the burnt out part. I want to pig out for the Christmas dinner and go to sleep. My mind thinks about a lot on Christmas day and I feel like I deserve the rest by the end of the day.

ive never gone to the movies on christmas but this might be the first year that I go since there are a few movies that I want to see like the sprit which looks kind of cool and valkrie which looks awsome and tom cruise actually looks like he might be good in that movie so those are two movies that I want to see and might see valkerie on christmas day.

I don't think I've ever gone to movies on Christmas day. I had some friends that did, but I'm usually too busy.
Some of the movies coming out this year do look good though. My son keeps talking about the movie Marly and Me. I think he wants to see that, although I don't know why. I want to see Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler. Although we'll probably wait until they're on video.

Going to the movies on Christmas day was a favorite Christmas pass time when I was young. But now that I'm an adult (44), I'm burnt out by Christmas day too. Eating cookies and going to bed sounds like the best ticket. Now I understand why my parents use to drop us off at the movies on Christmas day...they probably went home and took a nap.

Hi there jesssp
I don't think there are any movie theatres open on Christmas Day around here and even if there were I wouldn't go. Like you I am usually pretty much burnt out on Christmas Day and anyway there is always some good tv on around during the holidays and there is never the need to go to the movies!
