I am turning 30 this year. I have been struggling with my weight for what seems like forever but I have been 20 to 60 pounds overweight for 10 years. I am at an all time high right now.
It is time for me to get it under control.
I will be cutting calories and increasing exercise. In addition to the normal changes I will be cutting chocolate and my dear diet coke. I want to learn to live on my own energy rather then caffiene. I will be eating 1200 calories and adding calories until I reach my goal weight, then I will have 1600 calories to maintain.
I depend on food to be a friend of mine. It is a stress reliever to me and I know that is a big part of my problem. I will be teaching my self to deal with things instead of eating them away.
I got an Ipod just to keep exercise music on and I hope that I can find ways to stay motivated.
How do you stay motivated?

Sounds like you have a good plan. Remember to take it in small steps though. You don't want to feel overwhelmed and go back to your old habits. I too have been stuggling with my weight and am planning on going on a diet and exercise regiem after the first of the year. Like you I am a huge chocolate and diet cola fan. I will be cutting them both from diet. In order to do that, I have to remove them from the house entirely. They can't be anywhere near me.
As for motivation, I will try to keep mine by weighing myself daily. I also plan to reward myself for every 5 pounds lost with some little trinket, like a new pair of earrings, or getting my nails done. I have about 50 pounds lose all together. My other motivation is my health. I want to be healthier so that I'll be around to see my grandkids grow up.

Christmas time is a hard time to start a new diet with all the fattening food around. Most people apparently gain an average of 5 pounds and then spend the rest of the next year trying to take it off if ever. If you can moderate your intake and not gain weight during this period you will be doing well. Be careful and good luck.

If I can make it through Christmas then I can get through anything...I think. That is my plan behind it all. I hope it works. Thanks.

That's great for you. I stay motivated by setting a goal and in your case I would set an image for myself. And probably get like a model to look after. Also I hang out with groups of people that actually promote a certain way of life or have something in common. So you should go to an online community where you can encourage other people and be encouraged.
Oh yeah here's a great exercise to get rid of fat from your stomach
Put your hands behind your head as if you are relaxing.(i hope you understand) raise your left knee and bend your upper body until your left knee and right elbow touch. Don't try to bend your neck to do it keep your upper body as straight as possible. And exactly what you do with one side do to the other. It's kinda like crunches but you are standing doing it so it's more effective. It's called tummy trimmers and is great.

That does sound like a great exercise. Since I have gained the weight it is hard on my back to do crunches.
Thanks.

One of my resolutions every year is to lose 20 lbs. This year, my resolution is to lose 30 lbs. I'm a stress eater and an emotional eater. This year, I'm going to try Bob Greene's Best Life program. I only weigh once a month and depend more on measurements to gauge how well I'm doing. To keep myself motivated, I treat myself to something non food related when I go down a size. Sometimes it's a couple of days at a fitness resort and other times it's as simple as taking a bath with rose petals floating in the water and candles lit on the edge of the tub. Another staple is a good book and a Do Not Disturb Sign taped on the door. Good luck. It sounds like you have a sensible pan.

I am such and emotional eater too. I am trying to learn to cope with my feelings on my own so that I dont turn to food to help me feel better. I have had a long life of eating to make me feel better. Im not sure I even know what it is like to really be hungary and I hope to learn that for once.

It's better to get step by step. Your schedule is good. Keep up! I'm not overweighted. But I am very careful to keep fit.

I used to be very fit. I had a 2 hour exercise program, then I got married and had kids and got lost in it all. I dont have the extra time I used to and it shows on me. I am planning on getting up before the kids do and getting some exercise in.

I'm in the same boat, and I like to take a long power walks in the park. It's great. A lot of it has to do with eating smaller portions, taking in less sugar and salt, and exercising properly. There's a pretty good article about that here: http://www.squidoo.com/losesomeweightin2009.
Winter time is harder because it's really cold outside, so it's harder to stay active, but you need to. If I'm not so active, then I try not to eat too much because the pounds will just back on. I also try to stay healthy by eating fruit and a veggies. You need your five food groups just like they taught us in school. There really isn't that big a mystery to weightloss when you think about it.

I have had to many excuses in the past. It snows a ton here and I am a full time mom so I have a hard time running with two young kids. I got an eliptical machine and now I dont have any excuses left.
Weightloss is all a science and makes sense but it is hard to get out there and do it. That is my challenge.

My daughter was talking to a friend of ours at our house. He said he didnt want any more food so he didnt get fat. My dear three year old told him that he wasnt fat but mommy was. It was an eye opener to me. I need to be a better example for them.
