I much preferred the books. While the movie was alright, it was super cheesy.
About a week ago I began reading Stephanie Meyers site posted version of Midnight Sun so that I could compare some of Edwards reactions and thoughts to how it was interpreted in the movie. Sadly, the result was disappointing.
My best example right now, and easiest would be Edwards reaction to Bella's scent when she walks into the Biology lab. In the movie Edwards reaction comes off as if he feels sick, and the scent is grotesque enough to make him want to throw up, whereas in Midnight Sun (Twilight written from Edwards perspective) Edward describes how he feels as relatively obvious for a Vampire. His reaction is to hunt and kill Bella. There is no need for him to cover his mouth and nose... the only reason he breathes is to appear more human. He simply stops.
It was a mediocre attempt at what could have been an amazing movie. The only ones who fully understood Bella are the fans of Twilight who read the books.

I do prefer the book, as there were lots more small details that were great but never made it into the film. like Edward saying he didn't like the way Bella smelt after she had a blood transfusion.
but I really enjoyed both, and thought that the film was a great adaptation of the book.

I'd heard so much about how wonderful and great Twilight was. I'd heard so much that I wasn't really sure I wanted to see it. I watched the movie not expecting too much and I wasn't disappointed. It was as I expected. Good but not anything near what people shouted about it. But I couldn't stop thinking about Bella & Edward. I loved the love story part but the movie seemed to be lacking something. So I then decided to read the book(s). The book had all the movie was lacking about it. I was hooked. I decided to watch the movie again and did so. Though I enjoyed it, it still didn't change my initial opinion on it. That's not surprising to me though because I am usually am disappointed in adaptations.
Here's why I loved the book better:
It brought me back to when I first fell in love with my hubby(not that my feelings for him lessened - on the contrary). In the book Edward isn't as emo-ish -- he doesn't cry like he does in the movie (they freaking can't cry! hello!). Even though I understand he's suppose to be in so much emotional turmoil it brings tears to his eyes (movie) it still doesn't work. I love Harry Potter actors I don't think Robert Pattinson portrayed Edward accurately as I would have liked. Of course that could have been more of the directors fault. He's much more masculine in the book . (and I'm sorry ladies but Robert is just NOT THAT GOOD LOOKING!)
It's very on point with the breath taking experience of falling in love and it's sexy as hell. The way they want to touch so badly yet resist...the anticipation of the first kiss...they way they want to give into the psychical temptations...but don't/can't -- all very sexy. And all girls want a compassionate, intellect, incredible sexy, handsome, strong person that sweeps them off their feet and protects them to no end. It's an amazing love story.
I didn't really like the sparkling vampire bit yet I kind of did in a way. Not that they sparkle but a real reason for them keeping out of the public eye during the daylight besides the current norm of burning and that they don't sleep seems more realistic to me.
I think it was also attractive to me because I could very easily disappear into the background and become very isolated.
I empathize, understand and relate to Bella so intensely and deeply. I guess because I have the experience of that kind of love. Though you have to understand I am very empathic. Annoyingly so sometimes. It doesn't help either that we have some of the same experiences (leaving one high school to go to another, leaving one parents house to go to live with another in a whole other state, somewhat similar mothers, falling into such a deep love at a young age, feeling weak and vulnerable, wanting to be invisible, ect).

Definitely the book. It has got all the small details that make the story as a whole unlike the movie which is too fast and skips all the details.
You would understand the story better by reading instead of watching.

I also like the book better. The movie lacks so many scenes that is vital to the story. I definitely wanted more of it after watching Twilight the movie. I have read the Twilight saga several times already and i still can't get enough of it. I can't wait for them to make New Moon to see if they have learned their mistakes and improve on the film.

I almost always enjoy the book better (Lord of the Rings being one of my exceptions). It can be really hard for a book to be turned into a movie that is as good as the book and Twilight has so many big things that can't be expressed easily on film. One thing I remember thinking is "How are they going to show Edward hearing people's thoughts?" They did an okay job on that. Even harder is Jasper's control of people's emotions. When that comes up...they might even skip over it. The one thing that really bugged me about the movie is when Edward first catches Bella's scent. Way overplayed and I couldn't help but laugh when it isn't a funny part. They should have made it less obvious. I think they did fine for what they had to work with, but nothing compares to the book.

I really enjoyed the movie but agree the book is much better. The books are usually better because of the details. And you usually miss some things that happened in the book that they don't put in the movie. But like Harry Potter, I loved the movie in my own way too.

I am a very big fan of the Twilight series. I have to say that I have read all the books more than a few times and I have watched the movie more than a few times as well. I have to say that although I really did enjoy the movie, it wasn't like reading the book. There are certain things that the movie fails to translate, we defiantely get more insight into Edward in the book. I guess it could be because while we are reading the book, we get to use our ideas to form pictures of the way that things should be. When we watch a movie of another person's making, it just doesn't seem to mess. I still think that they did a very good job with the movie, especiall with EDWARD and I really am looking forward to watching New Moon when it comes out. I just hope that they do a good job, in my opionion this is going to be a touch one. I have to admit that out of the whole series, New Moon is my least favorite, I would say why but for those of you out there who haven't read it yet, I won't ruin it for you.
