Have you ever wondered, what it will be like to be your own boss?
When you're working under others, you tend to see their moods and your pay is standard. Each and every month, you get that certain amount.
If you're your own boss, if your company earns, you earn. Of course if the company is not doing well, you don't do well either. But if things are going well, you tend to get the most of the profits and each month's pay is not a certain fixed amount.

You are correct. Being your own boss can mean unlimited earning potential, however there is a lot more stress in owning your own business... and there is a TON of responsibility - especial in terms of all the different types of insurance you have to have (company insurance, workman's comp, unemployment insurance, commercial car insurance, private health insurance, etc.) and then there's the IRS... you would believe all the forms that have to be filled out throughout the year, and how many tax payments have to be made.
My husband (and me too, legally anyway) has owned his own construction company for over 10 years... his business recently fail because of the economic conditions (as have so many others) and we are really looking forward to just getting on someone else's payroll.... to us it means a guaranteed paycheck every other week, health insurance and other benefits, and freedom to be off work at a certain time of the day..... Being your own boss is definitely a stressfull, expensive and time consuming job.... I guess there are always tradeoffs when it comes to career choices! ;)

Hi there Regal!
I have experienced both being an employee and owning and running my own business. I have worked as a typist/encoder in a law firm, a secretary on another law firm and now as a part-time book keeper in a beach resort. I quit from the first job because as time goes by, they lower they pay which doesn't go well because the prices of commodities are rising. I feel that they are being abusive of their employees and are taking advantage of those who are desperate to have just any job. I am not one of those people so I quit.
On the second job, I wasn't treated well by one of our boss who does that to any of his employees who wouldn't flirt back at him when he does. I am happily married and I am not into "monkey business".
The third one is okay though becuase it's just part-time and I am doing it for a relative.
I also own an internet cafe and it is my best source of income if it will be compared to those other jobs. The best thing is that I can choose not to go to the shop because we have a shop assistant and I can choose to stay at home when I want to. Another thing that I like about having an internet cafe is that I can still work and look for other sources of income if I want to. One of those is mylot.

I have had my own business and loved it, but because of the economy I no longer have my business other than on the internet. I liked the freedom and pride of owning my own business but it does have its drawbacks, if you do not have enough business the bills still have to be paid and they come first before you get paid. It is demanding of your time but can be rewarding as well. Working for someone else is ok, you have benefits in most cases where if you have your own business medical benefits can be very expensive. If working for a company you do your job then go home and in most cases depending on what kind of job you have you don't have to take it home with you. Working for a company guarantees you a paycheck but usually the same amount unless you get raises but there are limits whereas owning your own business you could exceed further than your expectations. You take a chance that is for sure. It is much more satisfying to have your own business but much more demanding. It depends how much you are willing to give to succeed. Best of luck to you if you plan on having your own business, I wish you much success.

If I’m going to be the boss, that would surely give me all the time in the world but it would be hard since I have nothing in mind to run as a business and be the boss. Hehehe.. Well surely I love the thought but maybe soon it’ll come. Right now, I’m working for someone, having all the bosses to follow. It’s not a big deal following their orders as it won’t kill me physically but sometimes it does mentally. Hehehe.. But it’s okay, I still can carry it.

I am my own boss now. I took an early retirement from my job and am now embarking on a writing career. It is very nice to set my own hours. I work on several differnt sites every day plus write and publish my articles or do research for them. I like it so much better than having to get up, get ready, and drive miles to and from work, put up with the office politics and stress and then come home and try to make some sense of it. I would never feel like doing what I do online if I had to do the other.

There plus and minus from work for people and be own boss. When work for people, you will do base on daily work, and get monthly/weekly salary, but you don't have a free working experience, that you can get when you be own boss. Which one you choose ? i prefer to be own boss, someday.

i would like to be my own boss as well one day instead of keep on working for other people... but to be able to do that, i need to gain experience first and also capital to start the business... at the moment, i can only be patient and work with other people first until i am ready to own a business... take care and have a nice day...

I have never had my own company. I do freelance write in my spare time and consider that as my second employment. I also consider it to be self employed since I choose who to write for. As for my day job, it's ok. It could be worse, but it's not completely terrible. Do I love it? Not really. Can I tolerate it? More or less, yes I can. It has insurance and pays the bills for the most part at least.

I am my own boss for the past two years. Sometimes I like it another time not at all. Being your own boss comes with alot of dedication, trials and errors and of course sacrifices. When you are working with someone at least all these headaches is that persons. Even if you are self employed you have to give your self a set responsible salary so that your business run properly. Some times you will not have any salary too because there are times when you have to invest more for your company to be successful irrespective of what area you are in.
Happy New Year

I think it would depend on what you are doing. Some things would be more stressful than others. It is probably the same if you are working for someone else. Some jobs aren't that great and you might have a bad boss that can turn even the best job into a nightmare.

I'm an employee now. To start my own business is a goal for me. But it takes me time and experience to start. As the high risk to start own business, I should learn more things and consider more seriouly. Though it's a long way to realize this dream, but I will keep trying. Learn from my recent jobs.

I've worked as my own boss for most of my working life. It has lots of good points - and lots of bad ones!
Downsides you've mentioned are lack of certainty about the money you make. But also working for yourself means that you have to be self disciplined in getting down to work and making sure you are in a position to generate some income! It is not always easy to get a good structure going so that you have enough work and not too much!
Given the current economic crisis affecting most countries, I guess more and more people will be trying to do some work for themselves, especially if they have gaps in employment to cope with. Which brings me to one of the upsides of working for yourself - nobody can fire you! The worst that can happen is that you don't make any money! [Yep, I guess this is pretty bad, especially if you have put time and energy into working!]
Anyone had experience of making heaps of $$$$s or ££££s from the internet - on sites like this? I wonder if anyone would like to guestimate what their hourly salary is from writing on sites like this one?

I would prefer being the boss as my aim is to give THE BEST to my employees.
I heard, see and experience unfair boss, corrupt boss, and many other negative things that those bosses did to their employee.
The nearest example would be myself where my boss was being sooooo nice with this new, cute girl while with me he aint so nice.
Next to myself is my father who had been treated unfairly by his boss, and to the worst he was fired although he had done a good job.
There are many more that I heard, see and experience that makes me wanted so much to have my very own company and treats every single individual in my company with the best I can.
Have a nice day!!

I have never had my own company, but have worked on many part time projects for myself. I find working for myself far more rewarding, both financially and emotionally.
I am convinced that the only way to really make money is to start your own business, but the risks are high and you need money. You obviously also must want to work very hard, have a good business plan and a large enough market for your great product or service!

i would definitely want to become a boss because i think why work for any body else than for u r self. my dream is to first work for some one so that i no how the market works and then when i have enough cash to start my own business i will leave the company and start a new business. this how i can earn more.
working for a company for u r whole life and getting only a few $ was always a ridiculous thing for me.
