With advent of internet telephone service such as skype and yahoo messenger and usually free of cost ,many persons are opting for this type of communication. However, how safe and private are your conversations versus traditional phone service or cell phones? .Have you ever considered this factor. I am not saying that your cell phone cannot be hacked or your landline is foolproof but putting your conversations over the internet with some many hackers and identity thieves, could be the riskiest move yet . How do you feel about this issue ? ,do you use any of the free internet phone services ? if yes which one do you use ? and how often do you use it ?

Well maybe no one is listening in on your conversation ,I was just asking if you feel safe and making you aware that this was possible .Dont mean to make you paranoid now but just saying you should be wary since it is possible

I dont feel safe using anything on the net to be honest, because you just never know who could be watching listening or waiting to give you a virus, and even steal your identity the more I learn about computers the creepier I feel, but at the same time the Internet is so cool and fun, I cant help but use it even though its pretty risky, and as for as free phone service Iv never used a free phone right now I pay for my phone service but Iv been thinking of trying something called magic jack.

yes of course there are still risks, that's why I never give out password or anything like that when I talk on the phone. I use skype and MediaRing talk. Not very often now. Recently I have a friend who works in the moscow telecommunication center that helps me to make free calls back to my country. and I could hear him talking in the office while I talk to my family haha.. obviously one should be careful when they talk on the phone.

I use Skype, and I just recently found out about it, I think its wonderful. My mother in law is a missionary in Africa, and we don't get to see her but every 3 yrs or so, and its so expensive to call her using our landline phone, we found this to be a very useful thing, it doesn't cost us a thing to call her now, and we can talk to her anytime we want to or need to. We just talked to her one day last week, and she had a camera on her computer and we were able to see her, it was great. As for the safety of this service, I don't know, but we don't share private information over the computer when we talk. All I know is its a great way to save money especially when its comes to talking to someone who is on the other side of the country.

This type of serivce can be used for a small business firm. If it is used for a big firms it can be hacked by many hakers because all big firms telephone and documents are hacked all the times.

well, Hi, I use Skype ... its communication is perfect... clear voice... however i don't no how risky it is.. well, every communication is risky even through mobile phones.... well, i don't talk about serious tings through any phone services, i rather communicate face-to-face.... its more secure... so my dear, be careful while communicating through any means of communication, be it through messengers or mobile phones....

I have never given a thought to this. But I do not mind as it is only the harmless family conversation that I do in skype. At any cost I am not going to be a secret agent to worry about the safety of the communication medium.

I use Skype and Ichat to talk to my parents,it's such a source of joy to them I've bothered thinking about security. I honestly don't see anything wrong with it since I don't reveal any top secrets such as the combination to my money safe or location of those KGB files:) Whoever wants to listen to my conversations will be bored or mildly amused. The best thing is when there's no money involved, there is no money to lose. As to privacy issues,I doubt I have any privacy anymore;)

what i think is these services are fine and not so much doubtful to be used. anyways, anything cannot be trusted these days, however, we dont usually give out private information like bank details or whatever except for telephone or mobile numbers rarely right?, so whats there to think so much about this? what i feel is they are more better than the land line or mobile phones, i usually communicate through yahoo messenger as it is free of cost and we can talk for any number of hours.

Well I use skype sometimes too, but I don't bother regarding security, since I don't talk about personal things, I talk about general things. It isn't safe to talk persnoal thingks on skye not even on mobile or telephone. I sometimes hear other voices talking, when I am on the phone.
