Do you have friends that you have had since childhood or.......................?

I have one friend that I have had since I was about 15. I have another friend that I have had since I was about 25. Now these are true friends. Then I have friends I have met when I was thirty and fifty and along the way. But, I think, the ones you have had longer and that know you and have experienced things with you are the true friends. And then there are acquaintances. People we don't really talk to or interact with that much but we see out and about on occasion. Those, to me, are not really friends. What are your thoughts and feelings on this?

Actually we moved around A LOT when I was young so I never stayed in one place long enough to have many friends. When I lived at my Dad's for a few years I did have a good friend but we lost touch when I moved away. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Not really...ppl outgrow friends all the time, at least I do. I figure their like me, just living their lives. Then again I've never really understood ppl that hold onto their school days. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Does that bother you? Do you ever wonder what became of these old friends?

Hi Celticeagle, My very best friend I walked to school with at the age of five and even though we have both grown and even moved to different ends of the country 40+ years later we are still there for one another. Sometimes we may not speak for months but it doesn't matter at all as we understand we also both have busy lives. I managed to get to visit last year for a few days and we drop comfortably back in with each other as if we had only seen each other the day before not a few years before. I have friends of 20 plus years too whom I am the same with. I class people I say hi to and have an odd concersation with too as aquaintances. Work colleagues I class in this catagory too, but I do have a neighbour of nearly three years who I do class as a friend. Newer friends just like with any relationship can still be just as good as a friend but it takes time thats all. Huggles. Ellie :D

I have some friends that I have never met and they are better friends than the friends I have known all my life, my oldest friend I know from the time she was born, I am older than she is, she is now 51. But even though we live in the same city we don't even talk to each other that much, she is a friend but not a true friend, I here from her when she needs something from me. Then I have some really true friends that I have been about 7 years ago, I know they are their for me and I for them. Time means nothing the relationship means everything.

I met a friend when I was 14 years old and now he passed away last June of 2006. I miss him a lot. We shared so many precious memories and he was my best friend. I will never forget the day we met in our way to school. He was very good to me and he is funny and serious. Ours was not a perfect friend to friend relationship but it's best I had so far. If there will be another one friend I will have I will share our stories to that guy. I know along my way to this world there will be a someone again. I hope that someone is as sweet as my past.

I have one friend since I was 9 years old, her family moved into the neighbourhood then we started to hang out in our house. Now I don't live there already but we are still in contact. Sometimes she comes to my mother house for visit and bring presents. we re real close friends between the family :)

I had a friend through most of school. Then there was a misunderstanding, or something, when I was in high school, and we haven't really beein friends since. Right now, at least in my opinion, I have no friends. I have aquaintants. There's no one that calls me to ask to go out or come over. It stinks. Sorry if it sounds like I'm a downer.

I have a friend which i have since we were in kindergarten. We were classmates from kindergarten until high school. We used to be together when we were small but as we grew up, we have had our own sets of "bestfriends or group of friends". But I know her friends and she knows mine too for they were just our classmates in high school. During college, we still have contacts eventhough we studied in different places. Actually, one of her bestfriend was my roommates in the apartment we were renting. And when she transferred to the place where i was studying, i used to go to her apartment.

My best friend and I have been friends since my 5th birthday. I'll be 50 this next one so that tells you how long we've been friends. We both now live in other states so we don't get to see each other. But, we keep in touch thru mail, pictures and email. All my other childhood friends have gone off to live their own lives. I was contacted by one last year and found we have absolutely nothing in common anymore. Matter of fact she annoyed the hell out of me, and apparently the same with her since we haven't talked since! LOL

I have to agree with you. I have a few friends who I've known since I was about 13 and I met my very best friend when I was in my early 20's which was 30 years ago. All three of these women have been very important to me throughout the years. I have also had casual friends and acquaintances along with people I know professionally. So many people touch our lives in so many ways.

My mom just ran into 1 of my best friends from back home. She gave me her e-mail address and now we talking again after some 25 years. That was a trip to see what happened in all those years.

I'm 24 now and I'm still friends with a girl that I met in junior school when I was 7 so I've known her for 17 years now. I've got friends I've known for 12 years as well but the only person I consider a true friend is my friend Simone that I have known for 6 years. I've been through more with her in 6 years than my friend of 17 and 12 years. It doens't matter how long you've known someone as long as they are loyal to you. Acquaintances annoy me because half the time, you may have only met them once and you just say hi every now and then when you see them. The relationship doesn't really go any further. But some do turn into friends, I have a new friend that I only really thought of as an acquaintance as I've only known her a few months and only really said hello to when I went into the pub, never really started a conversation with her. Yet now, we are quite good friends and she's going to do a special cocktail bar for me at my hen do.
