Why do people have to be rude?

On tuesday I went to the movie rental place (only one in town) and rented two movies for the 2 days. I had to wait at the til for 15 minutes after going to the back to find the only employee there to say i was ready to pay for my choices. Another lady who was waiting behind me ALSO went back and said she was ready. He didnt acknowledge that i had spoken to him just sat and stared at the movie he was watching. When he finally came to the front i gave him my card and said i wanted them for the two days and no play guard. Usually the Movie Gallery is closed on major holidays so i asked what day the movies were due back and The guy says Thursday. I responded by saying that was Christmas Day were they actually open or was i to drop the movies through the slot. The guys response was "So whats it to you?" I was pretty surprised I just wanted to know if theyd be checked in on the date due or if it was dropped off and checked in on the day after. (they didnt have the christmas hours posted when i asked) I said this and he responded by saying again "whats it to you?" to which i said never mind I'll just return them tomorrow and i dont have to worry about late fees. I really didnt think it was necessary for him to be rude he could have said Yes, we're open on Christmas day so movies are due back then. Rather than saying so what's it to you. After he was that rude to me ab out things...I have decided I wont be renting movies from there anymore and if i want a movie to rent i will go to a different town and rent them else where. OR I'll just wait until a friend or family member rents them and watch them then. The other employees are just as rude and i dont feel i should patronize somewhere i feel unwelcome 6 dollars a movie.

First off there was no need for this guy to be rude to you. Have you tried taking this to the manager of this particular location? If you have then its time to go to their corporate office. I would make it known that this particular location needs some training on "customer service". Then again, I'm the type of person that will point out faults once in a while especially if it will affect more than just me. I have noticed in the last couple of years that customer service in many businesses has fallen down the drain. Even if you try and call "customer service" with a company you have worked with for several years, theirs is even crappy. It seems that all of these companies are just looking at dollar signs and numbers not seeing the people they are suppose to be helping. I bet that is the major reason our country is in such the termoil it is in. Good luck.

Sadly the guy that was serving me is a manager there so I actually took the time yesterday to find contact information for the chains headquarters, email them as well I've written a letter. I doubt anything will come of it because i've noticed so many places just dont care if they make their customers mad or not. I'll be reactivating my zip.ca account - i had frozen it for december/January because of holiday mail as well as me being on vacation for a couple weeks and not being home to get my mail.

i encounter many rude people as well when i go shopping sometimes... and i totally agree with you... why should we spent our money in a company that treated us so badly??? i would rather spent it somewhere else rather than making the company make a profit from my business... take care and have a nice day...

These days I'm so much more inclined to order online and not have to deal with people because i find people just get ruder and ruder these days.

I say go Netflix. That way the furthest you have to go is your mailbox. That was so unnecessary, and I would complain to the manager on top of not going back to that place. With Netflix you pick what you want, and you are only two days away from another rental, plus no late fees. Save gas, time, money and headache, ya know?

Sorry about that, but I would still try the Zip.ca thingy then. You may have to wait a little longer, and go out of your way to get the movies, but I would rather do that then spend my money where I'm not treated with respect.

I've been using zip.ca (stopped for December and January because i wasn't home much - holidays slow mail and trips n such) I'll start back up again February. On a good note - i actually got a response back from the head office AND the district office saying the apologized for the treatment i received and that they would be dealing with it as they have had more than one complaint about that location.

From what i read about netflix...i cant use it because i'm in canada. I use Zip.ca but i still have to drive into town to get my mail as we dont have to home delivery here...not even in town. So it doesnt really save gas or time for driving but it does save line time and headache. It takes about 4 days to get a movie here because its really really rural. My boyfriend claims i live beyond the middle of nowhere and that theres nothing up here.

Well for one thing, 6.00 to rent a movie is pretty steep. Here we get new releases for 4.00 and 3 day rental. The older movies are the same but they are a 7 day rental. I would not only stop renting from this place if I were you, I'd be sure to write a letter to the company explaining just why. There is no need in such rudeness and I'd be willing to bet that if the owner knew how his employees were treating his customers, he'd be mighty upset. They are killing his business for him.

I agree its steep. It wasnt that much in the summer when i rented movies from there last and the 6 dollars is only for 2 days not a week.

My fiance and I live in a small town, and there is only one movie rental place. It's also a movie gallery funny enough, and while we haven't had anything rude like that happen, I'm sorry it did to you. It's shocking as I've noticed that living in a small town people are mostly genuinely nice.

Most people ARE genuniely nice - very helpful friendly and nice to know but every once in a while there seems to be a group of mcnasties. I live in one small town and work in another so...its kinda neat to see the different people from different towns.

I'm sure that it is, I like to observe the way people interact with others, but well... not so much as to be a stalker, but I think what you could say I do is the same as you. I wish people would be more nicer everywhere, there's no reason for rudeness.

Your story tells it all. I guess there was no reason for them to exhibit that unwanted curiosity - whats it to you?". I just wonder why the counter boys/ girls become rude? For the very same reason, I avoid visiting a mobile store. If you visit the store, you have to be mentally prepared to face some awkward word punch! Disgusting. And this is the least I can say in this regard. I totally agree with your view. There is no point visiting a store that does not know well how to communicate with a customer.

I'll be using zip.ca alot more now...after christmas i intend to reactivate my account - i had deactivated it because mailing in december takes so long so i figured i wouldnt get very many movies between that and being freakishly busy.

I would not be going there anymore either. Especially since you said in another response that the rude guy was the manager. I get my movies from RedBox. They are $1 a night and you get them out of a vending machine. No rude employees to deal with.

There used to be another place to get movies here but the gas station it was in closed down about 3 months ago - i loved the 1.50 per movie and the owners of the shop were really nice. I'd be tempted to download movies but it is illegal and well I'm on dialup so it wouldnt be worth the time it would take to download them.

sometimes we cannot control because some reasons are stress or she/he is not in the mood or depends the person how to approach him or her.

I figured the guy was in a bad mood but /i was trying to be nice. I was even patient enough to wait 15 minutes for him to bother to come and help me after i asked for help. If i hadnt promised my baby sister horton hears a who for christmas eve watching i would have just walked out.

Hi saundyl! I don't believe that you paid $6 dollars a movie first of all! And then to have this jerk talk to you like that! I would have thrown the movies at him and walked right out of there! I would never have even taken the movies with me! I wouldn't have paid him a penny! I don't care how much I wanted to see the movies! I would never have allowed some azzhole to speak to me that way and then do business in that place! And if there were some type of mangement I would surely report that incident and tell them that you never plan to come back! That was totally uncalled for! How dare he be that way to a customer! I don't care if it is the only movie rental place in town!

I was shocked at the price - they must have just raised it again because the last time i went in (about 3 months ago) they were about 4 dollars. I emailed the haed quarters and complained. I doubt there will be anything done to be honest. In such a small town...knowing who the owner is and how SHE acts her self i doubt she actually cares how her employees are acting. I'm going to be reactivating my zip.ca account after my holidays in january. Ironically i went to fill my gas tank with gas and went to the quick place - didnt actually fill up because it was the same guy that works at the movie gallery working there. Didnt feel like dealing with him yet again so i just went to my parents and got gas from the hill (they have a big tank on the hill for farm stuff)

You truly have a kind heart. And I will say you are too darn nice. If that were me I would have cursed him out 1st, and then asked for the store manager. How old was this guy? It sounds like he's a young punk with the whole "what's it to you response". I'm from ny, and an employee like that might have ended up with those movies thrown in his face. That's the 1st reaction I got when I read how this guy treated you. There is no place for that kind of customer service anywhere. Hearing somethiong like this pisses me off. I would have walked out and not even rented the movies, but not before I stomped a mudhole in his a$$! I have to tip my hat off to you for even putting up with this jacka$$!. I have very little patientce, and I get frustrated very easy, and I don't like having to put up with other peoples bullsh#t. I deal with enough of that from the morons at my job. I work the overnight shift at the post office, and let's just say I would have gone postal!!

An older guy..and he was the manager. I was taking the movies cause i already paid for them and i could see the guy being rude enough not to refund my money. I try to be patient with others because i know theres usually a reason but that store..I'm tired of how EVERYONE treats the customers there.

I actually filed a complaint with their head office after posting this discussion. Maybe if enough people complain they'll restaff it.

At that point I wouldn't even care about the refund. It's more of a matter of respect. But that's I would've been satisfied with reaching behind his head and slamming his face into the counter. But that's just me. Even though that guy is the manager, there's gotta be a way to file a complaint against the store. I would check to see if the store has a website so you can send an email to the owner personaly. I would check with the better business bearu to see if you can file a complaint against the employees. If the treat customers as badly as you say, I would really look into this. There's no reason for that kind of udeness. The employees of that store don't deserve to have the privilage of employment if that's how they are treating people. And it doesn't matter if he was having a bad day or not.

You should complain to the boss and tell them that even though they are the only movie rental place in town, there are other ways to rent movies. You can join website where you pick which films you want and they get mailed to you. I'm with LoveFilm, for £15 a month, I got DVDs sent to me 3 at time. I worked it out that if I watched them the day I got them and sent them back the next day, I could have 6 DVDs a week which is about 24 a month which is about 60p a DVD. But you don't have to return them straight away, you can keep them for a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, etc if it's one that you really like. You will still be charged the same as there are no late fees. Remind the rental boss about people that are downloading films for free as well. If his staff can't give good customer service then he won't have anyone renting movies from him, then he'll end up out of busniess.
