I was upset by my husband wanting peanuts and saying they were just as good, and peanuts do not agree with me, if I eat too many, I get diarrea, but he does not believe that. Anyway after going to my older son's place for Christmas morning and they not having any nuts in the house, and my husband picking up biscuits and chocolates with liquer but no nuts in them and the only nuts there were was the kind in the Honey Nut Cheerios(need a microscope to find the almonds() I decided to go down to the Bulk Store to get some almonds. It had a wind chill that made the temperature equal to minus 20 to minus 30 and it was blowing all the way there. Used the small change my husband gave me plus charged the rest on my Mastercard. Well since he does not care that almonds are good for me, he is going to pay for them. I picked up some pecans as well. There is a sale going on so I got 25 percent off, and come January I will get some more dried goods, maybe some loose tea.
Anyway diabetes is good for my blood sugar and rather have them then eventually go on insulin. But I feel much better. So did you brave the elements to get something that you could not wait for until grocery day?

If the weather is good and I have time, I don't mind to make trip to the grocery store to get one thing. But in this severe winter I will not go to grocery store for nuts, if it was like a main food and you can't go without it, then its a different thing. I hate this kind of weather, waiting eagerly for spring.

It only takes fifteen minutes to get there and I consider almonds a necessity not a luxury. I have been reading about the health benefits and I have been having five or six a day along with yogurt and have noticed that I feel much better. Oh and not to mention I lost weight too.

Almonds are good for you and so are walnuts. You just have to have them to replace some other fatty food.

Wow, you are brave, you wouldn't see me in that kind of weather unless I was dying or something and going out in like that, I would be dying...As you can tell, I hate the cold, especially when the temps get below zero..

So do I, but you have to consider that my husband comes from a background when the women die first and that is because well, the men get the best food. And if I know something is going to keep me healthy I will look high and dry for that. I remember last year searching for the perfect pedometer. Did not find it yet, but when I have enough money I will keep looking.

Wow, don't know what kind of background that is, but it sure isn't showing your wife the love of Christ like they are commanded to do..I will pray that even though your husband may be set in his ways, that he understands what Jesus meant by "loving your wife as Christ loves the church."

Well considering that in January, it may get down to 40 below, if we stayed home, we would all starve. Of course if my husband had not decided that peanuts were healthier, then I would have to go. We could have picked them up at the grocers.

I certainly don't. I'd rather get out and buy things I need and want when it's not that bad outside. Unless it's very important like medication or there is no food at all etc I wouldn't go out against bad weather.

Don't drive so I have to walk. You should have seen me when I was getting Christmas presents for my husband. Could not have him come with me, and he is the type who gets panicky if I leave him alone, so here I went out at the beginning of December to get his Tv Dvd of his favorite show. Thank goodness I do not have to get the next season until June on our anniversary, or on Father's Day, so that leaves me plenty of time.

I am glad you got your almonds even if you had to brave the elements to get them. No I haven't not really except for bread or milk. But not in weather like that.

That is one thing I do not like about Winnipeg, the wind chill during the winter. It got cold early. Usually December is quite mild, like around freezing and in January we get the minus 20 to minus 40 weather, but somehow the cold weather came before winter.

The trade group that represents almond growers would probably love to hear your story! Heck, they'd probably send you a huge supply of almonds for your devotion to their humble nut.
I love almonds also, especially in oatmeal or other cereal. And they're good for your heart, I've read.

I love them in oatmeal, as well as any other cereal as long is it is not too sweet. Oh and they are good for people with diabetes as well. I mean there are certain foods that are good for you, almonds, blueberries, etc. but I can only get blueberries in season, so I am trying to grow my own.

I think you need a medal for that. Or a trophy since it was so cold. I think the only time I've gone out in a big storm that chilled me to the bone was when I was out of dog food, and then another time when I needed some medication from the pharmacy and I was out of it at home.

Are we talking -20ºC OR -20ºF? Well EITHER way it's still pretty cold...brrrr! Generally we try to get items at the grocery store & if we forget something at the store we have family who work at the grocery store...so we call them up to get the items. It's SO convenient! Have a nice day.

I think it was minus 20 f, but it was cold and now because of my husband's arthritis, he is given up driving so now I have to go out and walk to the grocers anyway.
