I rent my 1 bedroom apartment now for over 6 years. I wish i could afford to buy a house but i can't and my credit isn't that great so that doesn't help. Where do you live? House or Apartment and do you like it?

I bought my house last year. I was in the same boat as you credit wise and in a hurry to move. I went through a for sell by owner and had a contract drawn up by a lawyer to buy my house. I payed 100. lawyer fee and I put 3000 down to get my payments where I could afford them. I carry my own interest and pay my own land but it's better like that as you don't pay for your taxes and insurance with interest.

I rent a house that I have been in for almost 3 years. I love it. I have only rented one apartment in my life and that was okay.

You have a lot more freedom in a house. I'm surrounded by neighbors which some of them are so noisy.

Hi Missy, I own my house and it's the second one I've purchased. Yes, owning a home is a lot better than renting. If you really want to buy a house one day work on rebuilding your credit now so that you will be ready when the lending market opens up again. I didn't have perfect credit when I bought my first home and I didn't need a lot of cash because there were many programs for first time home buyers that helped with the down payment and closing costs. So, get caught up on anything that you're behind on and continue to be financially responsible. If you don't have a savings account, open one and make regular deposits into it...even if they're small ones.

! of my worst credit faults is when i co signed for a house for my exes mom. She lived there for 5 month and then bailed to georgia owing 4 month of morgage. It went into foreclosure and I have a $109.000 bad credit. Good Job.

Hi missy! I have been renting my same apartment for about 28 years! Yup! With all that money that went to the rent I could probably have bought a house or at least a condo! If I knew that I was going to be here that long I would have done something! Well, it's too late now! The rent is reasonable because I have lived here so long and it is rent controlled. So they can only charge me the regular rent increases and can't make the large increase until I move or die! So I am going to be here until then! I love my apartment! It has plenty of things wrong with it because it is old, but I am used to living here. It is a 1 bedroom, 3 room apartment. The rooms are nice sized. It's a garden apartment, meaning it is only 2 floors which I like and I am on the ground floor so it feels like a little house. I don't like elevator buildings. I lived in one and hated it.

Currently, we are renting the house we live in. Eventually, when we have the money, we plan to buy or build. It is a goal that we have set, and are continually working towards.

We do rent a house. It's really great to own a house especially now that we have 2 kids. I just hope this coming year, we could have our own.

I own my home. We have owned our house for about seven years. We are actually thinking about selling our home so we can buy a bigger one. But like you our credit isn't that great so we have bee working on improving it. We are hoping to be able to finance a new home in about a year. Hopefully sooner. The one we are living in right now is just to small. We live in a three bedroom home and there are six of us. You can imagine how cramped it is.

We rent a 2 bedroom apartment we've been living there for 2 years now and we love it. We don't want to own a house because we would never be able to afford one and plus we like that everything is included in our rent. We know that you can't get a house with everything included. Plus the way that the housing market is, its better to rent than to own anyways.

I bought my first house & I still live in it when I was around 20... I lucked out when I got it & chances are, this would be my last house... My girl friend & my daughter live with me... It's a small little rancher with 3 bedrooms & family room, dinning room & living room & of course a kitchen & bathroom... There were times when we concidered moving but after we've talked, especially the economy the way it is, we've decided to stay... Other than doing the lawn every summer, ha ha ha, I like owning my own home...

I would love to own my own home, but I am renting now. I am currently unemployed, and the lack of money has hurt my credit as well. I am renting a one bedroom apartment, with a living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. We have use of the attic as well. I would much rather be spending the $975.00 a month rent I am paying on something that was my own. But you have to do what you have to do.

We bought a house about three years ago. We are interested in buying another one. The one we have now is brick ranch that was built in 1974. We would love to have a more up to day or a more modern home. One day we might be able to rent this one and purchase another one.

Currently, I live in an apartment. I love it, but right now I am having a tough time paying the rent. I prefer to live by myself rather than with a roommate, although I know that it will be cheaper that way. My credit is slowly going down the drain, but I am hoping to start rebuilding it soon so in a few years when I make more money I can buy a house.

I lived with roommates once and i hated it. You always have to watch what you do, get dressed to go to the bathroom at night because you don't know if anybody is up. All kinds of stuff. Don't do it unless you have no other choice.

My family and I are currently living in a 2 bedroom apartment which is on the 2nd floor of an apartment building. My wife, 2 year old son, and myself are quickly outgrowing the place and I would love to buy a nice house to raise my family in but I too have bad credit. I guess the smart thing to do is find a decent place and buy it contract for deed.

A while back I used to rent a apartment and didn't like it. Neither did my husband. But we presently rent a nice house that is just the right size for us and we think it is pretty cool. We have lived in this house for six years now and we have a great landlord. Any time we need something fixed he takes care of it right away. So I am happy with renting.

i have tried renting an apartment, although it really was hard paying rent, nothing beats being the "queen" of the house. i can decorate it myself, and it feels really good when you see the stuff that you buy for the house. but its the hard times, i'm back living with my mom. it's feels great though, being with family. plus the fact that i am not paying rent. but i would love to have my own place though. hopefully in a few years..

I bought my own house when I first go married as I did not want to be paying out money that I would never see again on rent. OK, it was a hard struggle month after month making sure the payments were met, but it would have been the same with rent, but it wouldn't have cost so much. Even now, in the credit-crunch, I would say if you can get a mortgage, get one because you always have to have somewhere to live and one day, when the mortgage is paid, you won't have to pay any more. Banks are very careful these days, so they would make sure someone is able to repay a mortgage before giving it to them. The other problem is that you have to find a bigger down-payment now, but I still think it is well worth it in the end.. :-) Derek

Well... I own my home. It's constantly under repair because it was a piece of crap Mobile Home when we got it. Slowly we are making major repairs like, new floors, water lines, inside structure changes and painting. It's just my s/o and I so we deal with it, as we can when we can and try to survive. It's sitting in a very pretty place though. In the middle of some awesome oak trees with a pasture out front filled with horses. Instead of griping I need to start counting MY Blessings. There are people living in far worse conditions than I am. Thanks for having this post here and reminding me to take a closer look at what I really have. Bless You!

Sounds pretty, I used to live in a Mobile Home years ago. I loved it, I had my own little yard and I was 10 minutes away from the river. Those where the days.
