For Christmas, we went to my mother's house. She made the best ham ever! I took home the bone. I didn't pay much attention to it. I was about to give it to one of our dogs, I pulled it out of the bag and it was so full of meat and smelled so good. Sorry dog........... I made lentil soup with the ham, carrots, onions and celery. I made a pretty good size pot. I got two bowls out of it and now it's gone.
Do you like bean/lentils soups. Do you like to make them? Did you use bones from the holiday yet?

I'm making navy bean soup tonight with the leftover hambone and ham chunks. I love bean and ham hocks/pieces. I can't wait for dinner tonight. I add onion to mine as well, haven't ever tried carrots. Lentils sound good as well. I always serve cornbread with my bean soup too.

my mother had prepared soup for christmas. That was very tasty for me and for my friends also. That was needed for healthy body creation.

I usually make either navy bean soup or split pea soup with my ham bones. Like you, I always use carrots, celery and onions in my soup and I also like to use canned stewed tomatoes in my soups. We won't have our ham until New Years Day. Thanks for the soup idea. I hadn't thought of it yet and it sounds great with the cold weather that we've been having. I like to serve my soup with a salad and hunks of hard crust bread. I'm getting hungry!

We like to use bones in a dish called "Bulalo". It's a bone opened up to get the marrow and it's very oily. After you eat, you can feel the beef's oil in your lips. I love beans but I usually eat them steamed.

I would rather have the bone than the meat around it, we use it hare in the usa for flavoring beans, red beans or white navy beans, there is so much flavor around the bone and it gives the soup or what ever you making a great taste, I know the dog is mad now, but oh my god he can't have my soup bone. We buy a shank of ham about once a month, we cut it for sandwiches and some for breakfast, and then the lower end we chunk up for flavoring when cooking and the bone goes straight into the freezer to use when we cook beans, best is butter beans and ham.

The best soups are made from the ham bone, hocks, ox-tail, or carcass of a chicken. I like them all but the favorite one is chicken and rice, made by boiling the chicken's carcass (after most of the meat is removed) and adding in black rice, and just a bit of Barley. Boil it all together and you have a famous Soup.

My husband has actually had an idea to do that with our family ham that we had left over during the holidays. I am not too crazy over bean and ham soup but my husband likes to make that kind of thing.
He also suggested that we make ham and potato soup sometime. I am sure tht a lot of people like it. It is okay with me but it would need to be made a special way in order for me to eat it. I am kind of picky sometimes about my soup.
