What movie, this year, did you dislike that everyone else seemed to love?

Were there any movies this past year that everyone you know was raving about but when you finally watched it, you just didn't see what all the raving was about?
I know people are going to disagree with me but one movie that comes to mind is The Dark Knight. Yes, Heath Ledger did an amazing job as the Joker but the movie itself was 1 1/2 hours too long in my opinion. Maybe I just do not like Super Hero/Comic type movies - I don't know. I was expecting more from this movie and it left me unimpressed when it was over.
What about you?

I'm not sure if it came out this year (the second one anyway) but the Transporter movies to me have been a huge let down. I know there is all kinds of hype for Transporter 3 but the first two just didn't do it for me. I'm a Jason Stratham fan, but I just couldn't get into this series, despite the hype surrounding it.

I haven't seen any of the Transporter movies. Thanks for the heads up, though, because I will probably skip them if given the chance to see them now. Is it a Sci-Fi type movie?

No, they are action movies, but the movies seems really dry and the plots seem unreasonable to me. If you're into the explosions and crashes, there's enough of those to keep you busy but I prefer some substance and a plot to go along with it and for these movies, none of those quite sat with me.

I liked the first one but haven't seen the other two. I enjoy movies that don't require me to think about anything deeper that what I am looking at on the screen

For me, the movie was Twilight. I went to see it to see what all of the hype was about but other than an extremely cute vegetarian vampire, I really can't see what anyone saw in either the film or the book. Just my two cents. I loved Dark Knight though. What a loss of talent when we lost Heath Ledger.

Thanks for the response, Lauren. I have not seen Twilight but I want to. The thing is, I like to read the books before I see the films because I think books are always better and if I see the movie first, it will ruin the book for me if I read it after seeing the movie.
I am not a fan of vampire type movies or books but EVERYONE keeps telling me that it's so great and nothing like "Interview with a Vampire" type movies/books. I guess I'll have to see how the book is and then decide if I'll see the movie or not. I'm an avid reader and I'm picky about my books so I hope it can live up to the hype that I've been hearing.
I agree with you about Heath Ledger.. such a huge loss of talent.

"Twilight". I hated this film, but every 14-year-old girl I talk to says that she loves it.

Hi There. Well, it is not that I hate the movie but I haven't watched it yet... that is the TWILIGHT MOVIE.... I haven't seen it even if my sister bought a DVD copy so I can watch it when I have the time... I just don't feel like watching it right now... I have the book but I heard that most part of the scene were changed... this is what I have expected in the movie that is why i haven't seen it... but I have nothing against the film though. Thanks for the discussion! Happy New Year and Happy HOlidays! Cheers!

Twilight. Hehehe.. everyone in my office was talking about this movie and was so excited about it. I even watched myself on the big screen out of curiosity but I didn’t like the movie at all. Sorry. Almost every one was screaming every “sweet” scene while I just sat there and waited for my time to scream as well but never happened.

I don't know about "everyone" liking them, but a couple of movies that came out within the last year that I absolutely hated were I Am Legend (which was actually released December 14, 2007) and Funny Games, which was an indie horror flick from early in the year starring Naomi Watts and Tim Roth. I saw the trailer for it when I went to see The Eye in the theater and my first thought was Naomi Watts and Tim Roth moving to the country? This simply can't end well. And I was right....unfortunately not for the reasons I had originally hoped.
I read an article where Stephen King listed his top ten movies of 2008 and Funny Games was number 5. I must have missed something because I thought it was absolute crap.
I just saw a trailer on the TV which reminded me I will probably be adding Marley & Me to this list as well...

True that, I am a big batman/joker geek, but I felt the movie did drag at more than a few parts. I took my daughters to see it, they fell asleep halfway thru it. There was all that hype about it. I was a fan of the Tim Burten version, too. I think that the director was trying too hard to make the characters believable. Trying to make me have more sympathy for Bruce Wayne. Wayne wants to take his mask off to live his life, but he has to keep it on to battle this dude that's got his face painted up like a clown. I went to the see the movie to watch them battle it out. Plus, the ending was kind of a let down, too. Batman running off into the night with some dogs chasing him, and the Joker hanging upside down giggling!!!Come on, after shooting and blowing up half the city. I saw the youtube spoof version and thought that that was more on the realistic level. But I guess that's hollywood magic for you.
Another movie that falls along these lines, too, is Beverly Hills Chihuahua. I know that it's just a kids' movie. I just expected it to be way more funnier, maybe because George Lopez was starring in it. The commercials came off to me like his character was the star of the movie, he was just the comedy relief.

Haven't seen this one either. I have only seen 1 James Bond film, A View to a Kill, way back in the 80's - and it wasn't my type of movie. What didn't you like about it?
Thanks for responding!
