Saving money, I think it's so difficult to me. When I want to buy something, I will save money, and I believe I can use the saving money to buy what I want everytime, But, everytime, before the money is enough to buy the goods I want, I will spend it on other goods. So, saving money is useless for me. And now, when I want to buy something, if my money is enough, I will buy it, or I will go.

we all know that the best way to be able to save money is to earn much money. then cut down on all unnecessary expenses for the second step. third step is to find out which things we will have to get rid of in the house can still be sold to fetch some money no matter how small the amount it may be getting.
the biggest expense we incur is always on food. so eat the right foods so there will be health problems coming up. medicines will eat up so much of the budget for emergencies.
cook meals at home and eat at home. food will be much cheaper if we buy them fresh at the supermarket then cook them ourselves. when we eat out, we pay also for the services that the establishment has rendered us plus the margin of earnings on top of it all.

we are pretty careful with our money too. i only buy store brands and only go grocery shopping once every three weeks.
we only eat out maybe once every 6 months (unless someone invites us and pays) we shop at thrift stores and eat simple and filling meals at home.

One thing I do to save money is to make my own fabric softener and laundry soap. This is definitely a savings of a few hundred dollars. We're also trying to cut back on our eating out. We don't eat out as much as we use to.
Another thing I do is to try and make some more money, whether it's at work or online. There are many ways to do it.

I do all the things you mentioned too. We also have no magazine subscriptions, have the bare-minimum of cable TV (we can watch a lot online now too), have a no-contract cell phone (a Tracfone which uses prepaid cards) and we have only one vehicle for our family. By doing these things, it has allowed me to be a stay-at-home mom. We also do most haircuts at home (except my teenage son who no longer likes mom's cuts,... oh well). My husband packs a lunch or comes home to eat. We wash our own car, turn the furnace down at night, hang clothes to dry in the summer, color my own hair, borrow books from the library or buy them used, and occasionally have a yard sale. I RARELY buy anything that is NOT on sale.

I walk to the store when possible. I get bread for half price that is close to expiration date. I don't use coupons for food much because store brands are cheaper than brand name even with coupons (usually). I am trying to cut down on eating out. I am using the library to borrow books more, instead of buying. I'll be hitting yard sales hard this summer. I am selling my unused stuff on craigslist (free sales listings, check it out if you have not.)

I have reduced my cellphone bill by getting a pay-as-u-go Tracfone. I also keep the heater off and bought one of those $15 plastic miniature space heaters at Walmart which to my surprise works extremely well - actually just as good or better than my thermostat!
