I am working as a customer service respresentative. So with this, we do not have fix schedules. Before I used to work from 9 in the morning up to 6 in the evening. Due to added number of customers, and due to some demands, the management move me to a late shiftn which is from 3 pm up to 12 am. At first I was really surprise. My house is far from my office so it is really hard to go home, but i have no choice, I don't want to loose my job. What about you?How do you find your work schedule?

Hi there, this is really a challenge especially if you are used with the day shift. I used to work in a call center and 3PM - 12MN is one of the shifts that I like best. But i do understand your case living far from work would be a challenge but I believe your company has a service where you can have yourself be dropped near where you live. I tell you my friend I find this better than having a sked which is 4AM - 1PM. You will get used to it.

My work schedule is great for me right now although it is only part time. I am off on Mondays and work Tuesday through Friday from about 6:30 a.m. to 3 or 4 p.m., depending on how soon I get my work done. I could probably get it all done in less hours but would make less money and I have to hang around some times to see if there is extra work that needs to be done.

I don't like evening shifts. I think if you're healthy enough to withstand that kind of environment and if the pay is good then just keep the job. The economy is pretty bad nowadays anyway so if you quit, it might be hard to find a better job. My shift is nice and fits my lifestyle, but of course I have a lot of "homework" when I get home. :(

I was also working as a customer service representative for 2 years. My work time was 8pm to 6am. I found it quite difficult.Bcoz i was staying in a hostel. All my friends were having normal shift hrs i.e 9 am to 5 pm.When all they started to come hostel after thier work finished, i have to go for work. I would not have any mood of going to work.just i called my sup said i had food poison and took leave. Also while working on that shift around 2 to 3 am i was feeling very sleepy ,i could not even control.

I would still work, and do it at those crazy hours, but definitely I'd be looking for a new job. I of course recommend you keep your job until you find a new one, but if they are pushing you around to hours you can't handle, you should be putting your resume out there.

Your work schedule is not so bad compared to others who are asked to start the shift at midnight and ends in the morning. I think, that one is more stressful. I have read other responses and one said they have to be rotated. I imagine, that's a lot of stress and there's only so much that our body can take.
Anyways, finding a job that pays well maybe hard to do these days especially with the current tight financial situation so everybody needs to compromise and sacrifice. I say, if you're gonna stay with your job take care of your body more. Catch up on sleep everytime you can and take vitamins and stuff so you don't get sick easily.
I am planning to apply in a call center this month so hopefully I'd be able to stand the stress and last the job if I'd get it...good luck!

yes, if you don't want to lose your job, better follow your new schedule for now. If it doesn't really work for you, you can find a new job while you are working there, just to make sure that you will not be vacant.
I have experience the same thing before (are you working in a call center?) I have late night shifts to, even work starting around 2 in the morning. Like you, my place is far from where I work, going home is also a problem, since its too far, i can't take taxi cab from work to home or from home to work. Taxi cabs, are not really available in our place so when you tell drivers to take you there, special arrangement on how much you will pay is an issue. So I take bus instead and just pray hard that I won't encounter anything bad on my way to work. Now, I don't have any issues anymore. My new job is just 10 to 15 minutes away from where I live. I also have the ability to choose my own schedule. Currently I am on the 6am to 3pm shift. Come January 5, I'll be on 10Pm to 7AM shift.
Good luck to you my friend.

I know that working a shift like that is hard, but the upside is that maybe they put you on that shift because they thought you were good at what you do. I would also go to your boss and say that you are willing to give it a try for maybe 2-3 weeks, but after that you really do need to go back to your regular shift. Ask them to consider asking someone else, in that time that you've given them, if they are willing to find someone else to work that shift.

I used to work for a company that would never really have set hours. We would go in at the same time almost all the time, but we never knew when we would get home. I guess that depended on two things , how long the people we were serving talked, and how fast we were to get things done and ready for the next day. I worked as a banquet server, by the way. I never want to do that again.
I moved to another county so I quit the job, with no two weeks notice.

I'm on sales thats why, I have my own time working. I can go on prospecting by using the phone, by leafletting(distrubuting flyers) by talking to friends asking referrals. I would go on scheduled trippings or closing the sale. So no problem with my time only that I have to follow the time of gatherings or assemblies, scheduled booth mannings and meetings demanded by the company. I could lose my job too should I stop all of these activities but thats on sale. We don't want to lose our jobs so we have to follow whatever specific time needed...HAPPY NEW YEAR...

There is a call center here where the shifts are like that. Noone ever says they are happy working there. It is far to get to and we have snow for 6 months of the year so traveling that far at midnight in snow isn't up there on my list of things to do.
I did want to work but because of the hours I past on it. I have three children and two are special needs on a home night program which I do so the cost of gas, wear and tear on my 13 year old car and the loss of their night program made working there not possible for me.
I work casually at my children's school which is close by. Those it isn't a lot of money it helps us enough to get by until something else can be done.
If I were faced with your situation I would likely have to quit. I know you need the money but maybe you may have to look at other opinions. Good Luck!

Well most of the guru's of "how to keep your job" would tell you to talk with your supervisor (or whoever does the schedules) and tell him your problem and see if he will put youon a different schedule ... however since those guru's have never had to hold down a common paying job so they don't know that most employers don't care, I'll say this - - at least you have the "good" hours to look for another job.

You gotta do what you gotta do to stay alive. 3 to 12 isn't so bad if its all the time. You'll get used to it.
It even worse if you have a different schedule every week. I had a job once that we rotated. One week nights 1 a.m. 8 a.m. then days 8 a.m. to 6 pm then evening shift 6p.m to 1 a.m. I was always tiered and my body never knew when it was time to sleep.

hi rberon...it's not easy for sure. i've had jobs where my schedule was all over the clock. one job i'd sometimes worked 10am to 2pm then come back and work 9pm to 1am. i hated it but at the time i really needed the job. i ended up leaving that one after 1 year and 6 months.

I wouldn't mind a 3-12am work schedule because I'm still young and don't have my own family. If I were older though, I'd mind not being on a fixed schedule. I'd rather work mornings to be able to spend time with my family at night. I'd keep the job though if I didn't find another job yet. Maybe you should try looking for another job that has better times while still working there then quit when you find a new one.
