My mom had ovarian cancer and passed away two years ago. Doctors told us that we, her daughters, may have a higher risk because of genetics. Last week, my sister told me that her doctor advised her to undergo total hysterectomy, meaning that she would undergo a surgical operation to take out all her reproductive organs (uterus, ovaries, etc) because there is a cyst growing inside her ovary. That was such a bad news for me and the moment she broke out the news, it was as if there was some flashback in my mind during the times when my mom had her operation and her chemotherapy. I'm saddened by the news and it terrified me. I thought to myself, please God don't let it happen to my sister. But then, i told myself, maybe i'm just overreacting. I pray to God that all will went well with the health of my sister.

Thank you so much. Actually, i admire my sister coz she's taking all these as brave as she can be. She is forty-four years old and really went for frequent check ups after our mom was diagnosed with the sickness. I hope i could be as brave as my sister. Thanks again.

I'll be praying for you. Try not to over-react. I just had a complete hysterectomy like your sister will have, because of a cyst on my overy and other reasons. It turned out to a beniegn cyst. Nothing to worry about. I understand though that losing your mom to cancer must have been terrible. My hubby currently has terminal lung cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. So, I know what you mean about flashing back to that terrible time. All you can do right now is support your sister and pray for God's healing touch. Should the cyst be cancerous, hopefully they will have caught it in time. Again, my prayers are with you and your family.

I try to make myself think positive also. I have friends and officemates who have also undergone total hysterectomy at around the age of forty and it went well. Yes i really pray that the cyst is benign and my sister's health will be well. Keep faith also while caring for your husband, i will likewise pray for you and the health of your husband. Guess, we needed each other's prayers huh. Its just good to know that i have friends here who lifts my spirit up. :-) thanks.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'll be praying for your sister. However, before she does anything totally drastic like that she should evaluate her options. Although I'm done with having children, I'm not sure I would go for a total removal of all reproductive organs. That comes with its own set of disadvantages besides the inability to have children. It used to be done routinely and as a preventative measure. However, nowadays that is not always necessary. Yes, there is a family history but it can also simply be a harmless cyst.
I'll keep your sister, you and your family in my prayers. Good luck!

Thank you for all of your prayers including you jonesy.. really thanks from the bottom of my heart. Actually, my sister will be seeking doctor's second opinion yet, then most probably will undergo the operation. She already have four kids and the doctor said that if she have total hysterectomy, she will be experiencing early menopausal syndrome.
