Yesterday was cold and a bit boring, so I used the big hambone that I had put it in the crockpot with split peas, an onion and alittle bit of carrot and celery and made split pea soup with ham. It actually turned out quite delicious. I first started it on New Year's Eve. In addition, I made homemade bread in my breadmaker. So we had a nice tasty cheap meal. DO you ever make homemade soup?

I love to make homemade soup. I made some ham and beans with the ham bone from Christmas. Tonight I am making some Miso soup. I plan on using the cabbage that is left from the Miso soup to make a big pot of cabbage soup too. One of my favorites is Homemade French Onion Soup.

I did that today. Yesterday we had to have the proverbial cabbage abd corned beef so today I took my hambone from Christmas and made 15 bean soup. Don't know how it turned out yet but it sure does smell good! LOL

I make a lot of home made soups in the winter but sometimes still make some in the summer too. I use just about anything to make my soups. When I cook a chicken, roast one, after we have our meal from it I take most of the meat off of the bones and freeze the bones seperately and use it at a later date, to make a soup with them. I also freeze some of the chicken meat so I have some to add to the soup too, unless I am just making a soup with just broth and noodles. It can be really cheap to eat if being frugal. I end up getting about 4 meals out of one chicken that I usually pay about $8.00 for. So that works out to $2.00 a meal plus the other foods we have with it. So I freeze all of my leftovers and use most of them in my home made soups. I used to make my own bread also, but I don't have a bread maker anymore since I moved from Winnipeg to Calgary and didn't bring any of my stuff with me. I have to get another one soon because I like my bread better that way, over store bought bread.

I've definetly had my share of soup-making... ...I use to be head chef for a restaurant owner who had to have a different 'soup de jour' for every day of the year. Yes, I made 365 different soups every year. After the first three months, I ran out of printed recipes (books and such) and so had to start coming up with my own 'creations'. My favorite was... ...wait for it... ...Cheeseburger Soup! Yes, it tasted just like a cheesburger, complete with bun (flavor only), veggies and catsup.

Yes, I make homemade soups and stews all the time! I like to take a big ham bone and some cut up pieces of ham as well as some diced onion, put them in my crock pot, fill it with water, milk, butter, salt, pepper, a pinch of sugar and a cup of instant potatoes flakes, put on the top and let it simmer for a couple of hours and VWALLAH, delicious cream potato and ham soup! I don't have a bread machine, but I buy frozen wheat bread dough and make my homemade bread that way. There's nothin better them hot cream of potato and ham soup with fresh baked wheat bread right out of the oven, YUUUUMM!

We're planning on learning to make different soups this year. It'd be nice to have good soup - I find canned soup too salty, but I do enjoy soup on a cold day.

I do make homemade soup. And the roomie does too. I like to make split pea, veggie & potato, all vegan. The roomie makes chicken and beef soups.

I do , I have made lentil soup exactly like you do your pea soup- I will sometimes buy a slice of ham and dice it up for the soup too. I also like to strip the turkey after Thanksgiving and make turkey soup. I add celery, sliced carrots, chopped onion, leftover gravy, leftover mashed potatos, I boil the carcus (sounds gross) and make the stock and add that to the soup ingrediants, I let it simmer until the carrots are cooked and I will add wide egg noodles or rice, whichever I happen to have handy. It's cheap and easy and a balanced meal. If the the soup seems a bit bland, I will add some turkey boullian and spices also. I have NEVER made homemade bread. I heard it was hard.

I love turkey vegetable noodle soup...or barley or rice. Only if there is plenty of the noodles, barley or rice. I do it in the crock pot and when it's nice and hot I add some shredded cheddar cheese to it... In a couple of days I am planning to do turkey chili! Again, the crock pot gets a work out. And of course there is the cheddar cheese and corn bread...I usually invite my BF to come enjoy it with me. Only problem with the chili is that I found out that my mini Dachshunds love chili too. It makes for open windows even in the winter! Hummm, come to think of it I have some turkey soup in the freezer!

Yup Snowy, just cooked one last night. My hubby bought pork knuckles and bones, so I put it into the slow cooker with Chinese cabbage, red dates and some seasoning. The meat turned out tender and the soup delicious, and we had it with vermicelli.

I have made a few homemade breads, but I have not done much with soup, besides making a stew now and then. It has not been too cold lately, but when it is again, I am going to find some sort of interesting blend for a nice soup.

I made Great Northern and ham soup the other night for dinner with leftover ham chunks. I don't usually use the bone as hubby really doesn't like the fat, so I just cut up ham chunks. It cooked all day. We had leftover rolls from Christmas dinner so we heated those up as well. It was a great and "cheap" dinner like you said.

Boy does that sound good! I'm afraid the last time I made soup it wasn't qute so yummy sounding. I made cabbage soup. Cabbage, green beans, carrots, and stuff like that. It was good, but not much to brag about. I would much rather make the kind of soup you described.

I make it 2 or 3 times during the winter months. I have never done it with ham though, I always use turkey left from Thanksgiving, the carcass makes a great soup broth, or beef to make mine.

I love to make homemade soup; it is a good, inexpensive, wholesome and hearty food. When I eat soup, it is almost invariably homemade. Soup that I make is far healthier than prepared ones, and it also tends to be less expensive.

yes I do, and thank-you for reminding me that i have a ham bone waiting for me in the fridge! I like to make bean soup, potaoe soup, chicken noodle, and beef and barley. I usually have soups once a week in these cold winter months.nothing like a hot bowl of soup and warm homeade bread to warm you up.
