How Do You Fry Your Cabbage?

I love fried cabbage. I fried some earlier for lunch. I normally just chop up my cabbage and fry it in a little vegetable oil. I like to add a little salt and pepper too. You can tell by the picture that I like my cabbage almost burnt. I think it just brings out more of the flavor.
I was just wondering how other people fry their cabbage. Do you have certain seasonings you add or do you fry other vegetables or meat in with your cabbage? Or do you make another dish using cabbage? Yes, I love cabbage and if you have any other ideas on how to cook it then I want to know! Thanks so much!

I don't really like cabbage when it's cooked all that much. I prefer my cabbage in something more like cole slaw.
I do have a 'cheater's version of corned beef and cabbage that I love to make, though, and it's very easy.
For that I cut up the cabbage in big chunks and put it in my large electric skillet with a little oil, onion and tossing in a little pepper. I don't add salt since the corned beef is salty enough.
Oh, before starting that, I cook some potatoes and carrots until not quite done and cut up and add them to the cabbage. After those flavors are allowed to meld a bit, I add plain old corned beef from a can, one can or two depending on how much of the other I've already got in there. I break it up a bit with my wooden spoon and mix into the other ingredients, just enough to warm it through. I don't like it to get too mushy.
This is a super simple, quick and easy meal and there's never any leftovers.

I have a recipe that I got from another of my online friends it is a one skillet meal with spiced potatoes, cabbage and ham.
Ingredients are
2 tbs. margarine, 1 onion (chopped), 1 small head of cabbage, coarsely chopped, 1/4 c.water, 3 large potatoes, scrubbed and sliced, 1 dash papriks, 2 cups cubed cooked ham.
Directions: in a large skillet over medium heat, saute onions in the margarine. When tender add cabbage and stir. Pour water over, cover and simmer gently on medium low for ten minutes.
Add potatoes and mix. Cover again and allow to simmer for ten more minutes. Additional water may be needed. Sprinkle seasoning salt and paprika over cabbage and potatoes. allow to simmer covered for an additional 5 to 10 minutes until cabbage is soft and potatoes are nearly cooked. Mix ham in and finish cooking until ham is hot and potatoes are done.

I just posted below what I do. It's very similar to what you've said here, but I used canned corned beef for a 'cheater's corned beef and cabbage. It's awesome, and an easy, cheap meal.

singlemommy,
I will share my Chinese version of Fried Cabbage which my mother used to make when I was a child and hope that you will like it.
FRIED CABBAGE WITH BLACK FUNGUS & VERMICELLI
Ingredients:
* 2 bunches fine vermicelli (soaked till they are soft)
* 175g cabbage, shredded
* 20g carrot, peeled and shredded
* 4 fresh shiitake mushrooms, sliced
* 10g dried shredded black fungus (wood ear), soaked
* 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
* 2 ½ tablespoons olive oil
* 1¼ teaspoon salt
* White pepper powder, to taste
* 3 tablespoons light soy sauce, or Premium Oyster Sauce
* 1 tablespoon of chicken stock diluted with 1 medium soup bowl of water
* ½ teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
Method:
1. Heat oil in a wok, fry the garlic until fragrant.
2. Add the carrots, mushrooms, black fungus, cabbage and stir fry over medium heat for 1-2 minutes.
3. Add in the salt and stir fry for another 30 seconds.
4. Throw in the soaked vermicelli, add the light soy sauce or oyster sauce, and toss gently to mix over low heat.
5. Add the chicken stock solution and cover the wok to let it simmer for 1 min. Over low heat.
5. Dish up and serve immediately with a dash of the sesame oil and white pepper powder.
Hope you will enjoy this simple recipe.

I love fried cabbage, although when I buy it I usually buy a medium size one, so that I can make it again at another time, since my husband does not like cabbage.
I usually slice my cabbage wash and drain it. I fry bacon, when it is done, I add the cabbage to the bacon drippings, cover and let it do it's thing, sometimes I add onions in it.

I love fried cabbage with just a little butter, salt and pepper. I like it best if it's been boiled first, though it depends on my mood and what else I'm eating. I also love it chopped and stir-fried with carrots and onions, then mixed with brown rice and sprinkled with sunflower seeds. Top the whole thing off with fresh, unsalted butter, and I'm in heaven.

Yummy! I too love fried cabbage. Here's my favourite way of preparing it:
Fry up several pieces of bacon but don't drain out all of the fat, in fact, use it to fry up some chopped some onions. When that's all nice and sauteed, then add some rough chopped head of cabbage. Just before it's done to your liking, you can add some soy sauce. Yummy...even my daughter LOVES it and that's saying alot!

I also really like cabbage - I do not have it fried very often as I will usually steam it.
Fried I like to use a bit of bacon grease - I also like to add sliced onions which I like to have get browned just like the cabbage. sometimes I will leave bacon crumbles in with the cabbage.
I like my steamed cabbage to be tender crisp and sometimes will add potato slices into the skillet as well or sweet potato slivers.
also good to add some cream of mushroom soup worchesterchire sauce and perhaps even some sauted kielbasa or browned ground turkey or beef. with this a little bit of mustard works as does some caraway seed.

I love cabbage, too. You cook it the way I really love it. Bubble and Squeak is good, also. A Scottish friend taught me how to make it. This recipe is most like I make it: http://www.anenglishmaninamerica.co.uk/british-bubble-and-squeak-recipe.php
I also make a one-pot dinner; I use pork ribs, the country-style ones; brown them in vegetable oil. Cover with water and cook until almost done. Add chunks of potatoes and onions, add more water if needed and cook until almost tender. Then quarter a cabbage and put it on top of everything else; cover and cook until it's tender. Makes a great winter supper with some fresh bread.
Those are my two favorite cabbage dishes. Hope you get to try one.

Hi, fried cabbage is a great dish - I cook mine with chopped garlic, dried shrimps and oyster sauce. I also use cabbage (or Chinese cabbage) for soups. I cook this in the slow-cooker with meat bones, red dates and seasonings; and the soup turns out delicious and sweet!

I like to add onions and fry them briefly before I add the cabbage. SOmetimes I put in othe vegetables too, depending what I have around that needs using (could be practically any veg, carrots, broccoli, even turnio sliced really thin - I guess I often do it a bit like a stir fry and add garlic, ginger and soy sauce. Other times I will go for butter (naughty) instead of oil and add chopped fresh herbs if I have them to hand - chives, pasley and basil or marjoram work well. Mmmm I am beginning to feel hungry. But also it makes a big difference what kind of cabbage - I like savoy and some of the lighter cabbages like the pointed ones. If I have one of the heavier duty ones I find them a bit hard going and have to slice them up really fine!
