Do you mind wearing clothes that are not branded?

There are some people who only want to wear clothes with brands -- brand names such as Disney, Barbie, Levis, Crimson, Guess, DKNY, etc. Last Christmas, I sent a gift to my 6-year old god-daughter. This gift was a blouse, not very expensive but not also considered cheap. For me the blouse was pretty enough to pass my test and so I bought it. Few days after sending my gift, I heard from a friend that the mother of the child whom I sent the gift was disappointed with my present. I asked my friend why could that be, the blouse was pretty and I think I got the right size for my god-daughter. My friend said that it might have something to do with the brand, she knows the mother well as someone who wants her child to use branded clothings only, or those with signatures. I was terribly hurt when I learned this. My present was rejected only because it's not of a brand name. I remember that the blouse was pretty, but something that was generic, no brand name marked on it. What about you my fellow mylotters, do you mind wearing clothes without brands or you want to wear branded clothes only?

I wear all kinds of clothes. I don't think I have any branded clothing actually. It's ridiculous how much people pay just to wear brand names. I have a lot of cute and nice clothing from regular stores in the mall or even Target for that matter.

Oh sorry to hear that, i think the mother whom you give the present forgot the saying "Its the thought that counts" . It's a gift she should appreciate it. Anyways, i personally don't mind the brand as long as it looks good and most importantly is that i am comfortable to wear it. I am not really a branded person, in fact i usually buy cheap one, one that will fit me and i am comfortable. I also buy on second hand shop so i guess its all in the mind really. Some are really going crazy on brand when i fact it is still a cloth. It is just a matter on how the peson wear it, its not the brand that counts really its how you carry it when you wear it.

Thank you, cheenly! You're right, "it's the thoughts that counts"! A gift, whatever it is, as long as it's not a bad stuff and has a use should always be appreciated. After all, it was given free! Brand doesn't really matter as long as the clothes is comfortable to wear, fits well, I ( or the recipient ) like the color, no damages and the material is of good quality. And to all fellow mylotters responded to my post and who also don't mind wearing non-branded clothings, I appreciate your being practical! You're the real Smart!

Personally, I have always had certain Brands of clothes that I prefer wearing, but many times unless I get these clothes on Clearance, they are too expensive for me to afford otherwise. So most of the time, Brand does not really matter, but I do know people who are like your friend who do have little ones, and I wonder how they can be so thankless sometimes like this. Do they not realize that as fast as a child grows most people will not spend that type of $$ most times?

I wear what I can afford. If it is walmart or an outlet I don't care. When a 6 year old is like this, she is seeing it at home and at school. If the parents let her get away with this, they are raising a future problem (if she is not one already).

Hi there I am very comfortable wearing clothes without any brand. As long as the clothes suits me and is decent, I am fine. In my opinion there's not a need to purpose go for branded clothes. Clothes without any brand are just as good and it saves us a lot of money as well.

I dont' mind wearing clothes without brand. Sometimes clothing with no brand is better. No one will argue with you or wear the same clothes as you.

The same would go for me.. People may want to see a brand logo on their shirt, but isn't it just as good without - Its all clothes, and that'll never change.

I have a lot of branded clothing, I love A&F, but some of my favorite shirts I got at walmart. My favorite jeans right now are from walmart. I just wear what is comfortable.

I do not mind wearing non branded clothes at all. All branded clothes famous today but just think about their past, there was a time no one even bothered to go by their brand name. It is just because of people using it again and again it comes as brand name. Any beginner in this designing or style industry comes with dream and make it to his/ her best. I go by style and clothes which suits on my body and personality. Brand is not at all important for me as I also do mix and match with clothes and I myself also try different styles and clothes on own so where brand name stands? It is just about look that matters.

I don't care about brands. I can't afford brands, so I just get what I need in the price range I can afford.

i was grown to appreciate all things and doing so I wear clothes that are brand or not. The discipline that this mother is growing this child into will be backfired on her very soon. As if it was me and I see where this child is not wearing my gift after a couple of months I will confront the mother as not to give it away that she was being exposed. Don't be disappointed next time instead of purchasing clothes but educational toys.

It does not bother me if the clothes are not name brand clothes. Just as long as the clothes are neat fitting and clean I'm happy. I would love to wear all name brand clothes, but it really does not effect me one way or the other.

That's sad, hope your god-daughter grows up to be a wiser & well-rounded adult. Not easily swayed into brand names & realize that "Labels" don't define a person. So long as clothes are well-made,i don't really care what brand they are. I prefer clothes with no labels, if they happen to be really pretty...well that right there is a great deal!

Sometimes I sew my own clothes, I don't care what brand something is as long as it looks good on me, I usually get rid of tags cause they bug me. If you only wear brand names you miss out on thrift shopping too. And the average person doesn't know what brand other peoples' clothes are anyway. They just notice if someone looks good in them.

I prefer clothes without the name of the company that made it written on the outside. I think it looks tacky to display the make on the outside, such information should be on the washing tag, not plastered all over it. I think it's just because people want you to know how much their clothes cost them more than they want to look good.

I don't care what brand my clothes are. If I like them and they fit, that is all that matters to me. It is a shame that the mother of your god-daughter is so concerned with the brand of the clothing and not the thought of the gift.

I am fine wearing either. My mom used to say you can wear K-mart and look like SAX or you can wear Sax and look like K-mart. I think it is all in how you carry yourself. Not the label on the clothing that matters.

I really don't mind wearing clothes that are not branded. Considering the very hard situation now adays, I think its practical to buy cheaper clothes. As long as it looks good and clean its okay. As for the gift you have mentioned, I think the action or reaction of the mother of the child is not a good gesture. The fact that it is just a gift or it is given, she don't have the right to make comments about it. She must be very thankful instead. For a gift that is given wholeheartedly is priceless!

I don’t mind wearing non-branded blouse or jeans. My concern is the shift or my dress should FIT on me and it should be comfortable. I don’t mind buying my blouses in non-branded shop. Sometimes, I even order via the Internet (particularly in Multiply web site) some shirts who are home made or designed personally. I buy branded clothes as well if I really like it but if I see another dress similar to the other one and cheaper that the branded one, most likely, I will go for the cheaper one. I guess I am just being practical since money is tough these days. I also have a friend who doesn’t wear non-branded stuff; she really takes time in saving money to buy one piece of clothing from branded shops. For me, it is fine since that is her own money and as long as buying those expensive things doesn’t affect her budget for herself and family or other necessities in life. Thanks for the discussion. Have a great day! And Happy Mylotting! Cheers!

I am not one to wear brand names. I also try to make sure that my kids know that it is okay not to have to wear these things. But unfortunately in the schools your child can become a target if they do not wear them. I do not have alot of money and can not afford to buy these clothes. There fore I try my hardest to find these things in second hand stores. And my kids are quite happy with them even though they are second hand.
