Do you respond to stupid discussions?

I have seen some of the wierdest discussions started here on mylot. I don't have a problem with them at all. But it is a little surprising to see that the silliest discussions usually get the most responses. The ones that Ii start that are serious get 3 or 4 responses. And the ones that are meaningless get over 40 responses. I have a conversation about how much the economy sucks, and how I hate this whole bail out plan by the government. It goy a few responses. But then I start another about sunglasses, and I get over 50. The reason I started this topic, is that I have a guy on my friends list here on myot. He starts the dumbest discussions. It's getting on my nerves a bit. I turned on my cell phone and saw I had a million emails. They were all from mylot telling me that this guy just started a new discussion. And almost all of them were about nothing. He starts a discussion, and really has nothing to add to them. Like he'll start one that says. "What do you like better, mashed potatoes or peas" And he'll say "I like mashed potatoes because they tatse good with butter". And that's it. Almost all of his conversations have one line answers. It's obvious many people here just start conversations just to get their numbers up. I don't have a problem with that at all. I keep saying I'm gonna start a few myself just to see how many responses I get. But it annoys the hell out of me when I see my email inbox filled up with a bunch of crapy discussions all by the same person, with nothing much to say behind them. And this guy rarely responds back to the people who respond to his posts. It makes me wanna delete him from my friends list. What a pain in the a$$ LOL.

Since you don't like your friend's discussions, simply turn off his notification. As to your other statement about silly discussions, I know after a bad day at work & looking at the bills that need paying, I don't want to talk about the bail out nor think about the bad economy. There are times that I go for the silly crap, just to get away from the real world!!! I face reality ALL day & sometimes just need to get AWAY from it!!! If it will make you feel any better, in my opinion, the short discussions with the one liner responses makes your friend very little money. The longer, more thought provoking discussions will increase your earnings more than the short silly ones even with less responses. Increasing your posts when you first start may be beneficial;however, you reach a point that just increasing your post numbers means nothing except ego boosting!!!

I underdtand you about facing the real world and wanting to come here and get away from it all. I have no problem with people starting or responding to silly discussions. After all there's only so much that there is to talk about here. Thanks for telling me about turning the notify off. I thought that was for sending people private messages.Don't I look stupid LOL.

NO, you don't look stupid. Just still new enough to not know. Hell, I've been here twice as long as you have & I'm still learning. When you stop learning, it is a very sad day!!!

Wow. That was a mouthful. Hehe. Anyway if you're friend ask about mash potatoes or sun glasses, I don't think that is stupid. I think that is just a small talk kind of discussion. Many people like small talk. Especially when you are strangers. But if he starts a discussion about "Can I borrow money anyone help me please". Which I have seen a few times in MyLot. Now that is stupid. Hmmm. I don't remember receiving emails about my friends started a discussion. Perhaps there is a setting here in MyLot somewhere. You can do that to eliminate the spam.

OMG stinge! I laughed my a$$ off when I read how you got million emails on your cell phone and it turned out to be millions of dumb discussions by your mylot friend You're too funny!..You are right though, there are some dumb discussions here and I'm also amazed that they usually get 50 responses from various mylotters.. Maybe you should delete your friend if they are annoying you too much or turn off your email notify option for this one user.

I just learned about the email notify option from someone else. I thought that was for private messages. I went to send one of my mylot buddies a private message and I saw his notify was off. I thought that meant I couldn't send him a message. Boy am I stupid LOL. I started a discussion about how pissed off I was with the government and how bad the economy is getting. And how they are wasting our hard earned tax dollars on this bailout crap. I sat back with a smile after writting my opinions and was waiting to see the millions of responses and opinions of everyone here. I got one stinking response. That sucks! But I start a discussion like this one and another one about stupid people look wearing their sunglasses at night time and I get over 3 pages of comments. D#mn simple minded fools LOL.

Well, obviously you do have a problem with this or you wouldn't be writing about it. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. America is all about that sort of thing. You do realize that alot of the members on here are very young. I think alot of the discussions are alittle silly. But, once we start deciding what is silly and what isn't it begins to be like the black listing back afew years. Let's just live and let live- shall we?

I don't have a huge problem with stupid or silly discussions. I have started and responded to a few myself. I usually respond to these disussions with my own stupidity. The thing that pissed me off this partticular time is that I turn on my cell phone to check my email and I saw I had over a dozen new messages. They were all from mylot telling me that my mylot friend started a new discussion. They were all meaningless. This is the 3rd time this has happened from the same person. I don't have a problem with whatever type of discussions people start. In this guys case, he asks a question and always gives a one line comment. The topic of his discussion will be "Do you like chicken or steak" And he'll say " I like steak because it's salty" And that's it. All of his discussions are pretty much like that. And he doesn't respond to the people who leave comments on his discussions. People here are free to do what they want. But when I see that a person starts a silly one line comment discussion and doesn't respond to the some of the people that take the time to leave him a few comments, it shows me that he is only looking to get a bunch of respones to get his earnings up and could care less about peoples opinions. I am motivated to come here and get my earnings up as well, but I mostly like to here the opinions of others when I start a discussion or respond to one. I do get annoyed sometime when I respond to someones discussion and I dont' get a response back. But it happens. It is a free country and I have no problem with how people here spend their time. I just learned to turn off this guys email notify so I won't get alerted when he starts a disussion. I'm sorry if you were under the impression that I was trying to tell people here that they didn't have the right to talk about whatever is on their minds.

Don't feel bad. I asked if anyone can give me some input on the new black berry phones that just came out and I got nothing as well. There is a website called Allexperts.com. You can go there and ask a question about anything. Just find an expert who specailizes in the category you are loking for. Like in your case you have a question about your cell phone. There is this expert on that site named Debin. She has given me some very helpful answers to my questions about certain cell phones. I think she is the only expert there that specializes in the cell phone deprtment.

Yes there are some people who try to respond to every discussion and also who start a lot of discussions every time and most of them does not make sense. I just ignore them and never bother to read their discussions or waste time reading the discussion they have started. The most irritating thing is messing our discussions by giving foolish response. Anyway wishing you good luck for this year 2009.

Hello There. Yes, it depends on the situation. Sometimes, I find discussions that are lighter to answer and easy to answer as well but I do take time to read good and informative discussion too. If I have comment or something to say then I really put some response on it. If it is really a stupid discussion or question then I will really not answer it but of course I have my own definition of “stupid discussion” like. Thanks for the discussion! Happy Mylotting and have a great day ahead! Cheers!

I guess I also had ecountered the same you did...I mean being frustrated w/ great topics having less response and those that are nasty are getting a lot. Well I guess it's all up to the readers though, you cannot just simply expect everybody to be smart enough to response credible discussions or maybe most ppeople just find it easier to reply on simplier and sometimes "stupid" topics as they doesn't require more thinking than those great ones.

My e-mail is full of those one line discussions. I try to post somewhat interesting discussions not just ones that say"Do you like the color blue" DUUH how stupid is that.

it all depends really, if its like a really silly question but i can asnwer it then i will, but if its one of them discussions that get repeated over and over again by the same user then i wont bother becuase all that youll be doing is earning them money :P

I've been on here for almost a week and I see the trend.I told my wife "Its so easy to just say Coke or Pepsi" But thats what people seem to be responding to. a Me,I like to start discussions that are humoruos AND make you think.I know when im kicking it with my people and we're politicking ,its always funny!Wheather the subject is serious or not.And I usually respond with some form of humor just being me.I look at the discussions I started with no response, then I look at "Todays Top' and all ten pages are corny as f**k!Maybe the Mylot community isnt as open minded as we think. It gets to the point where I find myself just responding to s**t cause its like no ones gonna respond to my discussion anyway. It may not be about the"Bailout" but I know it takes more of a thought process to respond to than Coke or Pepsi.

I also like to respond to other discussions with a little humor most of the time even if it's a serious one. But I always leave a serious comment afterwards. As far as the open mindedness, I do question the inteligence of most of the people here when I see the amount of responses that these stupid discussons get. Like I see over 38 responses to a discussion that was started 2 minutes ago about what's your favorite colored crayon. It's funny to see how long ago a discussion was started and and how many responses they have already.

I understand this and in part, that's one of the biggest let downs of this place to me. I'd like to come here and compare notes, toss ideas and get into it. I don't care what kind of sunglasses you wear. I don't care who's complaining about who on this site, but what I see is discussions like the "silly ones" are safe. I've read of people stalking others or following another around because they gave a rude response or maybe they just don't like them. I do think some of it is about getting away from the "real" world and coming here; however, I think people rely on whatever payment they get from here. I think they safegaurd themself from being a potential target so stay away from the deeper issues because someone's going to pop off and forget they're supposed to be an adult here.

I don't really mind what type of discusions people start. I respond to the silly and stupid ones as well as the serious ones. I was just annoyes with this one person besause this was the 3rd time my email inbox was full of dumb discussions he started. But I just learned that I have to turn his notify off on my friends page so it won't happen again. I have seen some stupid questions asked be people here and I do ignore them. But it's hard to ignore when you get a bum rush of emails.

Hi stinge I have also observed that serious discussions get less responses than the silly discussions. As you said it is easier to respond to that silly discussions,so more people response and increase their score. You continue with your meaningful discussions without bothering the no of responses. Happy mylotting

Sometimes when I have been responding to 'heavy duty' discussions which needs an extra brain cell to response I will start hunting for an easy gateway by picking up those stupid discussions as you call it just to normalize my brain. Well, a stupid discussion will get a stupid response as deem fit. I have also posted stupid discussions to gauge how far it attracts responders. It exceeded my targeted number of responses which is very encouraging but hold no water as far as the discussion goes. Sometimes we have to have some varieties to attract others to our friends list.

I agree with you wholly on those one liner discussions which carries weight. Even with one simple sentence you can elaborate it further and add up to lots of ideas which can be meaningful and catchy and does not bore the readers.

I have no problem with stupid or silly discussions. As you can see I had alot to say about this topic. The guy I was talikng about starts has very little to add when he starts his discussions. He'll start one that says " Do you like eggs" And he'll say "I like to make egg salad". And that's it. All of his discussions have those one line comments. It just annoyed the hell out of me because my email was filled up with a dozen discussions that he started and they were all just like that one. I know people here are mostly trying to get their earnings up. i have no problem with that. But at least have a little more to add to your topic than just some one line 4 word sentence. And then sit back and wait for everyone to respond. But I just learned how to turn this guys email notify off on my freinds list so that problem is solved. Don't get me wrong, I start silly discussions as well as the so called ones that require people to use their brain cells. But whatever conversation I start, I try to have alot to add to it rather than just some one line sentence. I started a discussion asking about sunglasses asking " Are they for fashion or to keep the sun out of your eyes". My main thing about this is I notice how people wear their shades at nigth when they go to the club. It looks stuoid to me to have on a pair of shades when the sun isn't out. I saw a guy in best buy one day with his Versace shades on. It looked stupid to have them on in the store with no sunlight. My point is I had a lot to say about this topic. Instead of me saying something like " I like to wear my sunglasses at night". I know that's what this guy I'm talking about would have done. If your gonna tell us you like to wear your shades at night, tell us why. Give us somethihng more interesting to work with.

well... i guess your more serious questions (like the bail out one) needs one to be familiar or up to date with current affairs. Not only that, to be able to contribute to the discussion, one has to think deep and seriously. On the other hand, those easier questions (or stupid discussions) doesn't require one to think much. JUst input their 2 cents worth and that's it. =)

It's hard to actually write a response to a lot of the discussions on here because like you said a lot of them are pretty stupid. I try to respond with a pretty big response because I know that you get more money for the longer the responses that you leave. It's much easier to leave good responses when the topic is something and interesting.

It depends. But if it is really a stupid discussion, i won't waste my time to that.
