I am watching a television now when I have heard about the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. This syndrome can relate to us because we always use computers. As I have watched, it says that once we suffer from this syndrome, we cannot carry even not heavy things. According to the doctor, it is all because the nerves were compressed. So the doctor advise that we should take a rest from time to time. I hope this would be helpful information to all of you. have a nice day!!

I think this topic creates some doubt and fear among mylot user, because some mebers are spending more time in front of computers.I think there is no need to worry much about it,if we take little care while using computer. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve that can be caused by anything that reduces the space for it in the carpal tunnel. The exact cause is not know, but various conditions could play a role, such as: 1 repetitive, forceful grasping with the hands 2 repetitive bending of the wrist 3 hormonal changes 4 arthritis 5 diabetes 6 thyroid imbalance 7 broken or dislocated bones in the wrist that cause swelling 8 pregnancy The evidence is not clear on which activities cause the syndrome. Contrary to popularly held belief, no strong scientific evidence links computer use to carpal tunnel syndrome. The evidence is stronger for a connection to heavy and repetitive assembly line work and work involving prolonged, heavy gripping and use of vibrating tools. If we give proper break in our work schedule, then there is no need to worry much.Any work which is repetitive in nature can result in CTS.Carpal tunnel syndrome is only one ergonomics issue related to computer use, so a correct office setup still has great merit.Repetitive motions in jobs outside the office, such as working in a meat packing plant or using a jackhammer, have also been linked to the syndrome.

Hello There! Yes, I heard that kind of sickness though by just staying in a computer… Thanks for reminding us. I personally take some time off from using the computers because it is not only bad for my eyes but it also affect my life when all I do is sit around in front of my computer. I need to think of the other sickness cause by exposure from the computer and my social and family life as well… I guess we just need to balance everything even the use of this stuff. Thanks for the discussion! Happy Mylotting and have a great day ahead! Cheers!

I also watched it last night. and according to the report those who are working with computers are prone to this syndrome. So guys if you have time, you have to rest the muscles between your palm and arm because thats the target of this carpal tunel syndrome.

First time i am hearing this syndrome. when we do the repeated things our brain automatically practised to that activity. What about the IT persons.they always work with computers.so will they soon become weak?.So many IT companies have their own Gyms,Clubs inside the office for their employees to get relaxed.

I spend a lot of time on my computer. It's how I make my living and I have been doing it for more than 20 years. I am sure I would have had carpal tunnel by now if I wasn't able to switch hands with the mouse. When my wrist starts to strain I just switch from my left hand to my right hand and back and forth like that all day. When I was a kid and started school back in the 50s the teacher still smacked your hands with a yard stick if you were left handed, so I started school being wacked a lot. Even though that is a horrible thing to do to a kid it helped me to learn to use both hands. I will always be left handed but because of that treatment I do all kinds of things with both hands. It comes in really handy in sports, really confuses people when you switch back and forth. It has however made life easier for me in a lot of ways. Plus my computer class students are always amused when I show two students the same thing at the same time but on both of their computers or I start writing on the black board and switch hands part way through. No carpal tunnel for me.

Yes all computer users should be aware of that especially those that are in their elderly years because most who are victimized by these are the elderly people. But that doesn't excuse the younger ones because they tend to abuse and sometimes they hands can just breakdown like that so I guess everybody should be aware of these condition to avoid further damage to themselves.

ergonomic rests for your wrists will help in preventing CTS, as well as stretching exercises for your hands. You can probably find them online. There is also a homeopathic tab you can take called Nerve Fix that works wonders and I know several that have taken it and been able to avoid having surgery. I have it in my right hand from repetitive motion, and its not just using the mouse and keyboard repeatedly, its any repetitive motion in the hand and wrists, but the hand stretches have really helped.

I've had CTS for over ten years now. Its painful at times if I spend hours online. Surgery for it often turns out worse than the pain from the CTS. For me I just take frequent breaks when online and use ice if needed on my wrists. It helps with pain.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome has been around for decades now, it's not something new. It was much more common when everyone first got personal computers or used a computer at work (and other repetetive movements). When people started noticing problems, doctors recommended frequent breaks, and then manufacturers began making components that were more friendly to the human body, i.e., gel mousepads, ergonomic keyboard and mouse, etc. I was typing for hours a day in one sitting many years ago when CTS became prevalent and had symptoms myself, but with the advent of the newer components, I haven't had a problem in years. I'm still at the keyboard hours a day, every day, and don't have any problems. Just be smart about things and I'm sure you'll be fine.

CTS has become very common these days with the use of computers. But its not limited to just computer use. A lot of jobs that require the same common movement of the hand, shows increased number of suffers. Some of the most common are cashiers that use the now famous "swipe" movement. Also it has been reported that a lot of factory workers that do the same type movement all day, every day are common victims too.
