Sick! I'm sick of being sick! I lost 6 pounds in one day!

Anyone who knows me well here might have noticed that I wasn't around yesterday. On Friday, I was feeling kinda yucky but didn't think much of it until the afternoon when I laid down for a nap. I woke up with horrible, HORRIBLE abdominal cramps! I was dreaming about the pain, then woke up and realized it was REAL!
I don't think I have to go into further detail here to tell you what happened next! I think I got about 2 hours of sleep all night long. By the time the sun came up yesterday, I was so worn out and weak that I could barely get out of bed! But, since this still wasn't over, I HAD to get out of bed, several times, and in a hurry!
Somewhere in the night, I must have had a muscle cramp in my leg because my right calf is so sore I can barely put weight on that leg. Any time I try to eat anything, it runs right straight through me!
I weighed myself last night and, yep, I've lost 6 pounds!!! Not that it's a bad thing, that's 6 pounds I wanted to lose but didn't think I could, but I sure didn't want to lose it THAT way!!!
I started shaking really badly. I was getting plenty worried, I can tell you! Then, I realized that I hadn't been drinking much water and I KNOW I was dehydrated. So, I started drinking more water and at least the shaking stopped.
Here it is Sunday morning now and I still can't eat anything. Things in my innards start rumbling right away and the cramps start back up.
I had a flu shot almost 2 weeks ago now so I doubt this is the flu. Have you ever had anything similar last this long? If so, do you know what it is? I'm concerned because this sort of thing has never happened to me before and I can't call my doctor until Monday. I don't think it was anything I ate because my husband and I have eaten the same things and he's fine and dandy!
Any advice? (I'm such a big baby when I get sick!!!)

It sounds like the flu that we had go through the house last month. My son has a bad reflux problem when he starts throwing up and his brain doesn't tell it to shut off. The doctor told us to get some 7 up, and put just about an inch in a cup, add salt that will make it fizz. Drink it and don't put anything else in stomache for about an hour and a half. It worked for him, maybe you should try it. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

At the risk of being redundant (as I can't read other responses on notifications).....my answer would be clear fluids....and only clear fluids! Things like diluted apple juice, diluted beef, chicken broth, tea with NO additives, and as few meds (e.g. aspirin, tylenol) as possible!
I experience this often as I have full-blown diverticulitis, and it is a double-ender (if you know what I mean)....and my favourite recipe is to grate fresh ginger, pour boiling water over it, let it steep, pour off the clear liquid and sweeten with a bit of unpasteurized honey.
If you think about the time lapse between your flu shot, and the incubation time, this could be the "flu!" I was warned that it was possible that I could have this reaction to my flu shot! And it has probably hit you twice as hard, due to the stresses you have had over the holidays!
Meant to include, flat ginger ale, that is poured into a glass, stirred until all effervescents is gone, and at room temp! Course all of this goes without saying, I did not include water.....but LOADS of it no matter the gut rumblings! It will pass, my dearest! (No pun intended there either.) Cheers!

Have you tried a pregnancy test? I here some pregnancies come accompanied by such symptoms. My cousin experienced such symptoms and when she was taken to hospital she was 3 weeks pregnant..........too bad she was only 16 years. She gave birth to a baby girl on her 17th birthday. If not that then maybe you are having some flu attack recurring. I am praying for your quick recovery.

Hahahahaha! Well, if you looked at my profile, I think you'd be able to rule out pregnancy! Not only am I 56 years old, but I've also had a hysterectomy so I can safely say that I'm NOT pregnant!
Thank you for the thought, though. I've had a flu shot but that doesn't rule out the flu. Viruses like the flu can mutate and be unaffected by the vaccine given out for this season's outbreaks.
It is most likely just an ordinary stomach virus that is lasting a little longer than most. I am still not feeling well at all today so I'll be calling my doctor soon to see what he advises.
Thank you for your prayer and well wishes.

Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa How could I rule pregnancy maybe its because I am and now am thinking that everyone here is even male hehehheeeeeeee, am getting crazy. But i had a thorough laugh on this and am still rolling on the floor.......Hope I did not offend you about the pregnancy thing .
Jokes a side now, go back to sleep and get enough rest and take lots of fluids. Mix small parts of salt and sugar in warm water then drink a glass of it every hour.
Takecare dear.

I am sorry you aren't feeling well, I haven't been MyLotting to much either in the past 3 days, so I didn't notice you were not posting, I checked my emails and yours is the first one that I saw.
It sounds like a virus that you have, I have never had those symtoms all together at one time. I wish there was more I can tell you . You seem to be handling it the right way. Just make sure you call your doctor on Monday. Hope you get well soon.

This might be a bug that is going around. I have felt sick for a few days and slightly tired. Last night like yourself I was woken up with severe stomach cramps. I spent hours in and out of the loo and today I am exhausted.
I know before Christmas this was going around my daughters School so I must of picked it up off her. Today my daughter has it and I have told her she can stay of School tomorrow.
Another thing it could be and sounds like, is irratable bowel syndrome. I take a lot of medication and eventually it all catches up with you and takes the linning of your stomach causing severe cramps and upset stomachs every few months.
If this occurs get it checked out as there is some great tablets that help clear it up for a while. Goodluck and I pray it never returns again.

Did you eat something that might have been Bad and caused you Food poisoning or you have a touch of the Flu that is reacting with the Flu shot you got a couple of weeks ago? I ended up getting a form of the Flu myself about 6 weeks ago and it started that way, but only lasted about 3 days, and I luckily only missed one day of work.
Hope that this has gotten better for you, or I would consider getting into your Doctor if you can and get something for this, as this does not sound Good at all. Wishing you the Best.

i am so sorry to hear that you are so sick... i hope you are getting better now... been in your position before as i also often have problem with my stomach... and yes, having lots of rest and drinking lots of fluids will help to make you get better sooner... just try to keep yourself hydrated and force yourself to eat no matter how you dislike it... hope you will get well soon... take care and have a nice day...

I'm so sorry you're sick my friend. I will pray for you. It sounds like the stomach virus to me. It's been making it's rounds here in SW VA for a couple of weeks now. Sort of gives new meaning to our favorite phrase "this too will pass." It will soon, I'm sure.

Wow, I've never been that ill before. I have lost I think upwards of 3 pounds one day, but it was because I had went on this eating frenzy. I was practically eating everything there was in sight. After I stopped eating and took some laxative type tea, I pooped everything out and boy did I ever feel GREAT!
Won't be doing that anymore. Actually, we doing a fast for the remainder of this month and, I'm eating oatmeal right now in fact. It has with fresh cut apple, with fresh raspberries, fresh pumpkin seeds, almonds and raisins. Ironically, after eating it, all 3 of my children had to go to the restroom at the same time to poop.
Good thing we have 3 restrooms!
Have a Happy New Year, and I hope you feel better soon. Maybe you might need to clean some toxins in your body out?

You poor thing! My husband and had something similar a few years ago. He started to get sick in the morning and by mid afternoon we both felt as though we were going to die with very similiar symptoms to yours. We had spent the day before with my mum, sister and brother in law and our daughter and my niece. We did not all eat the same things but as it turned out everybody except our 2 year old got so sick that my sister, her partner and little daughter had to take themselves to hospital. My mum was very sick also. We never did find out what may have caused it because as I said we all ate different things; maybe it was an airborne virus or something. My husband and I went to the doctor and he prescribed something to stop us rushing to the toilet every 5 minutes and said to have a fizzy drink that contains electrolytes from the pharmacist and lots of water and clear broths etc... until symptoms subsided.

Hope you are feeling better now. Sounds like a nasty stomach virus to me. I hate those, they are always so horrible. And with your fibro it is even worse.

I lost almost 10 pounds before when I got sick for 4 days but I gained back everything after that haha. Anyway, just stay in bed and get as much sleep as you can because that will really help. I also drank a lot of liquids, particularly honey and lemon juice and I thin it helped me a lot. Medicine works too, but sleep for me is th best cure for sickness. :)Hope you feel better soon.

I am getting bigger and sometimes have wished to get sick not really serious one though just coughs and colds probably and get really lost a great deal of weight since I am getting bigger now after my stomach operation. And it seems there is no way that I am getting thinner and it is very disturbing in my part. That it make me wish sometimes I get sick. though its hard to be but for the sake of losing the weight I might endure it. Follish thinking I know!
