You get paid based on the number of rates you receive times the payout level. The payout level is displayed as a number of dollar signs on each product page, each dollar sign is 1 cent per read.
So if you write a review for a product with one dollar sign and get 100 people to rate it (mostly by rating other people) you will get one dollar. On top of this you have the Premium Fund (given out to very good reviews) and a bonus if your review was first for that product (100% for the first month).
A few real examples:
Using Ciao UK (that uses the same scheme) my review on the MSI Wind (3 pound signs - or two pence) received 100 rates (2 pounds). As it was the first review I got double the for each rate in the first month (all 100, so an extra 2 pounds). On top of that, as it was a good review it received a small slice of the premium fund (2 pounds again). A total of £6.
Again Ciao UK, my review of Spore (a 1 £, or 0.5 pence product) received only 41 rates by other members. Netting me just 20.5 pence.

Ciao has drasticslly changed it payment scheme.A member is now paid 1 cents for rating standard reviews,1 cent for writing new reviews and 2-3 cents for being the first one to make a review on a new or unreviewed product. If you are a good writer and users are positively rating your reviews, you will get a share from their premium fund.from the 2000$ premium fund they had last November 2007,I got 2$.I was inactive last December so i did not get any.
Hope i was of help.
Have a nice day.
