I live in Brooklyn and people have been saying that some Chinese restaurants use rats or cats. I hear that they chop up or cook the cat or rat and make it look like chicken. Someone one told me that they were given a chicken that looked like a cat. Do you think that these kind of stories may be true or not??

I don't usually see any animal or pet foods there are at chinese restaurants other then chicken, aha. I've never seen any chinese restaurants with with animals or pets in the menu to eat, none at all.

Hi Malinium,
I have never had the orange chicken or anything exotic like that. I usually stick to chicken wings and rice. Deformed chicken is real and I have seen a few of them. Something is not right and if it was "just chicken" then they should have thrown out the deformities!
Thanks for your input.

I've been hearing those stories for years.
I like Chinese food and I hope I haven't eaten any rats or cats but if I did I guess they tasted good. .
They might do that in other countries but I think we pretty safe here in the USA.

Hi MOcha 09,
Hmmmm. thats true because I don't think that chinese poeple eat or buy all the same foods we buy. I don't think a good chines restaurant would do this to its customers only a evil nightmarish restaurant would. Thanks.

I don't think a reputable Chinese restaurant will use those types of animals in their food and tell you it's something else. I think it's just a rumor that they do that. Perhaps the really scummy cheap restaurants do that, but I don't know.

I dont know for sure if this is true or not, but I did see a program on on t.v. that they do use dog meat in there food. The only thing that I eat in the chinese food is Chicken and rice.

I highly doubt they would do that. You could taste if it wasn't chicken & they would be inspected by the Health department. I don't think it's true at all because of the above reasons I mentioned. Plus I think the restaurants would be smarted than that to give dog/cat to their customers.

This is news to me and I hope these rumors you heard is not true and is concocted out of business jealousy. Everybody knows that chinese foods are delicious and some people just want to divert those chinese food lovers to other cuisines. I bet those chinese restaurants owners are not that inhuman as to serve such kind of meat not for human consumption but I do believe there are exotic food restaurants who does serve weird animal meat for health purposes as chinese are known for their health consciousness in wild beast internal organs for longevity and aphrodisiac but they will have it written in their menu.

I don't think they're true. I mean it's so hard to kill a cat compared to killing a chicken, right? I mean we can barely give our cat a bath without him retorting and making a big fuss out of it, so that means it'll probably pose a bigger fight if its life were threatened! And besides, if they were using such exotic dishes, shouldn't they post it and gain more popularity?
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Hey there mslovely. I don't think it's true at least there in Brooklyn, but I heard in mainland China, people have been using some pretty strange ingredients in their recipes. Like for instance, there was an issue last year about this restaurant offering pork buns which actually contains more cardboard than pork. They did that to reduce cost, and earn more money, and that's in Beijing I believe. So in some remote parts of China, who knows what's in their menu.

I am a Chinese. Chinese food has too much kinds that may be some foods use animal, but not the Pet. In your country, you alse eat beef, pork…… So don't just listen the "stories", you can try by yourself~~~
