Do you eat fish with the heads still on?

At some of the stores I shop, they have the whole fish minus the scales and guts. I don't mind that the heads and eyes are still on. Do you eat fish like that, or do you prefer it already filleted?

here in the Philippines, we always keep the head especially the large types of fishes because they do so well in soups. We love to eat the eyes and the brain and the cheeks part. If the fish is small, we fry them until they become crunchy and we just eat the entire head right away. Yummy and goes so well with soysauce+vinegar dip

Yes, we serve the whole fish to the plate. In Chinese, we have a tradition and this is called "having the head and tail". It stands for a good sign. I love China

I have never eatena fish like that. I don't think I would ever eat the head or eyes. BUt seeing it shouldn't bother me. As I have eaten fish all my life.

Thanks for answering. It does look strange, sometimes, to see the eyes, especially when they start falling out, lol.

In fact head is the tastiest part of fish. It will contain very tasty and protein enriched ghee. I love heads of fish more than the body. I even, dont spare the gills!!!

I think they ought to sell just the heads for people who like that part. Thanks for responding!

I have never eaten fish with the head on. I dont want to either. I dont think it is for me because I dont want eyes looking at me when I am eating . I prefer the fillets wich is the way that I have always eaten it. Interesting topic, and great discussion.

Hello There! To tell you honestly, yes, I eat the fish with the heads still on. When you visit here in the Philippines, that is how we cook the fish or even if we grill the fish… almost all of the restaurants here always serve our fish with the heads still intact. And I don’t mind eating it with it. Lolz. Thanks for the discussion! Happy Mylotting and have a great day ahead! Cheers!

I think it's more common abroad than here in the United States. The neighborhood that I live in has a lot of immigrants from all over the world, so maybe that's why this one store sells the fish intact.

I prefer the fish that I eat be already filleted. I couldn't imagine eating a fish that still had it's head on. After all, I don't like the thought of my food staring at me.

LOL, that's what it seems, doesn't it. I have fished before, so it doesn't bother me that much.

I fished before too. My mom loves to fish, or at least she used to when I was little so we went often. The last time I've gone fishing was when I was in my teens. I could never bring myself to eat the fish though, especially once I was old enough to realize what I was actually eating! But I'd still go fishing with my mom because I know she enjoyed it.

I would prefer it already filleted. But, if it is cheaper to get it with the head left on then I will get it that way. It is very easy to de-bone it when it is done. Not a problem at all. I can handle alittle extra work to save a dime or two!

Yeah, it's usually cheaper. I know that this one store, if you want a certain type of fish, you can only get it with the heads still on.
