January 5, 2009 7:09pm CST
I am 14 weeks Pregnant. I'm having severe headache but it's on and off. I hate to take medicines. Can anyone suggest me if there are any home remedy or exercises which helps to lessen or prevent headache? Thanks in advance.

As I'm still having vomiting (throwing up everything), I hate to take medicines. Also, I'am already taking prenatal vitamins and calcium tablets. Thanks for your advise.

A headache can be a symtom of dehydration. Try drinking some water, at least 8 oz, if you are severely dehydrated you might need a little more. Also having someone massage your neck and helping to relieve some of the tension in that area should help. The headache could also be sinus related too, if so the drinking of water will help for that as well as well as placing a folded up and warm wash rag on your head to help drain the sinus area. Sometimes a nice warm shower will help as it will help to relieve tension, and loosen up the sinus area as well. I hope you feel better fast.

Thanks for your fast response. I'm drinking enough water. Hence it is not for dehydration. I don't even have a sinus. I should try a neck massage and warm shower. Thanks again for the remedies.

First of all, of course, you should discuss your problem with a doctor or with the nurse or midwife you are seeing in connection with your pregnancy. The advice of a medical professional should help reassure you if it is something to be expected and, should it be something that needs treatment (rather than just palliatives), is the only way that you will get it. Having said that, many physical symptoms can have an emotional connection. You might like to try EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique - which is a combination of Thought Field Therapy and acupuncture (but without needles!). Some of its big advantages are that it is something that is easy to learn and apply yourself - the Manual which describes the method is completely free and without strings; once learned, which takes maybe 30 mins to an hour, it takes a minute or two only to run through; it can be used in many situations of stress, pain, phobia and addiction - in fact one is encouraged to 'try it on everything'! Here is the link to a page which describes using EFT for headaches: http://www.emofree.com/a/?3252/4 From there you will see links to the Tutorial and the downloadable Manual. As I have said, the first thing you should do is to mention your headaches to a doctor or other medical professional but exercises to relieve stress and including EFT would be good to use too.

hi creative2715, i guess the best thing you can do is to consult your ob-gynecologist. it is difficult to self medicate since you are pregnant. any medicine that you will take might harm or affect the baby inside the womb. better to talk to your doctor and tell her/him your concern. please dont self medicate. you can also take a good rest you might be in stress of your pregnancy thats why you are experiencing headache. be blessed!
