I just saw a news story about a 1 yr old boy who was killed by 4 family owned pitbulls. the father had gone outside for about 10 min to talk to someone and when he came back it was too late, they were discussing what if anything the father should be charged with. what do you think?

How awful. Where did this happen? Wow, my prayers go out to that family. I do think that knowing pit bulls have a tendancy to be violent and can turn in just a split second, the father should be charged with neglect and endangerment. He has already lost his child due to this, I do not think charging him with manslaughter or murder is necessary. He is dealing with enough guilt. The poor mom. I just can't imagine. My grandson turns one on the 27th, I know we would all be devastated. Yes, this family will be in my prayers.

this is the article I found on internet about it.. 4 Pit Bulls Kill SC Child Nov 6, 2006 07:07 PM New Media Producer: Rachel Chambliss A South Carolina father faces homicide charges after his pit bulls attack and kill his 22-month-old son. Authorities say the small child was dragged from his bed and mauled by the father's four pit bulls. The family moved into a new home Saturday night and decided to let the dogs stay inside for the night. While the father stepped out to talk to the landlord, the attack happened. The father is expected to be charged with homicide by child neglect sometime this week.

They were also showing videos of pitbulls fights, I know that is how they were raised, but they are too agressive a dog to have around children.

I agree with the proper training a pit bull could probably be a good pet, but because of their nature this is a hard task to do. I commend you on your success with your dogs.

It seems to me that these dogs may have been fought, as pits typically are in some states (what state did this happen it, do you know?). If this is true and the father left his sleeping baby alone with them then he should be charged with child endagerment. If, however, these were regular house pets (as the owner claims) then he shouldn't be held responsible for this freak accident. Something seems fishy to me about these dogs. I mean dogs just don't turn like that without any reason. The child was sleeping for goodness sake. I dunno, I'm gonna wait to see what unfolds with this case.

AAH don't tell me these stories! I am so afraid my dog, who loves my daughter, is just going to turn someday. Don't charge the father, for heaven's sake, I think he's been punished enough. Destroy the dogs.

I really don't think that the father should be charged with anything... except stupidity for owning 4 pit-bulls with a small child in the house. You should know better than to have an aggressive dog like that around little ones. I am sure he is suffering enough, but by all means kill the dogs!

I agree the dogs should be killed, but about not charging him I dont know. lets say someone decides to drive drunk, gets into an accident and kills his children who are with him, ok he knew about what could happen if he drove in this condition, he had a choice, made the wrong one, I think its the same with the dogs. he knew about the dogs aggressivness, had to have heard stories about them so knew what could happen, he made a choice, so does the drunk father get charged?,,definitly and so should the dog owner.

I think this is an incredibly sad story but these dogs sound like they had been trained to fight. Why else would he have FOUR pit bulls? Contrary to popular belief pit bulls can be very sweet and loving dogs. Like any other dog, training is necessary. So many owners simply can't take the time to train their dogs. It's untrained dogs that cause problems, not a particular breed.

He should absolutely be charged. Any dog can turn like that. Poor baby.

i dont really know the whole story. now if the father kept the dogs outside all the time then he was stupid for bringing them in and leaving them alone. if the were inside all the time and around the child all of the time...then i dont think he should be blamed. either way i dont think he deserves to go to prison/jail but he should get a fine. i dont think he would have left his child in there if he thought there would be any danger though. you really need to know how he raised those pit bulls.
