I heard on the news today that a guy has been hiccuping non stop for the last 2 years. He has tried everything possible to stop it, massages, drinking water upside-down, holding his breathe, you name it, he said he has tried it. I wonder if he has tried my solution I mentioned in a previous discussion. Anyway it got me thinking about how awful that must be, having a bodily function that you have absolutely no control over.
What would be the most horrible involuntary bodily function you would most hate to have no control over? I am not talking about moving bowels or anything here just the simple things like a continual runny nose, or sneezes. I would hate to have a problem with flatulence! LOl How about you?

Well I would have to say that the problem for flatulence would be a problem that I would hate too!! Hiccups are no fun, and can you imagine having them all the time...uggghhh I have hiccups once in a day and sometimes they really hurt!! I have bad allergies and my sneezing and congested/runny nose really gets old after a while and I have medicine that I take but it doesn't take the sympotoms away 100%......its really no fun at all!!

Hello shihtzumama
I know that in the past when I have had hiccups it almost becomes unbearable and when they do eventually go you are still waiting for the next one to come and that too is a horrible feeling. Poor chap, he is still trying to see the funny side of it though!
Thanks for your response

My boyfriend gets the hiccups and can't stop. He actually has to go to the hospital and get a shot because it gets so bad he can't breathe. Myself I have bad sinuses and my head seems to always be stopped up. This is very annoying.

I joke you not my dear friend but that is exactly what I have right now, not the hiccups, I don't seem to suffer with those, fortunately, but the flatulence, I love the way you put it, farting to me LOL! (I wonder if I can get away with this word!) trying to think what I've eaten today that has make me backfire, chicken, wedges, bananas, brazil nuts, oh anyhow, I think flatulence would be the worst, mind you that would be quite interesting at the gym, giving me wind power on the cross trainer they'd be smoke coming out of me for sure! Thanks for making me smile as always, I only hope you didn't frown that I have debased your excellent discussion in any way ;0)

Hi ya wolfie34
I can always rely on you to put a smile on my face too wolfie my friend! LOL . In the US it is quite alright to use the word fart unlike here in the UK where we are so very darn well reserved! . I don't think anybody else at the gym would be so interested do you?
Cheers wolfie

What is your solution to control bodily functions? The most horrible involuntary bodily function I would most hate to have no control over is flatulence. I would not imagine that i be able to perform my job efficiently. Although having a proper diet might help to overcome this problem

Hi ronaldinu
Well I don't have a solution to every uncontrollable bodily function let me just say that right now!! LOL . To cure hiccups you simply push your thumbs into your ears to block them and using your first fingers to pinch your nose together and then hold your breath for as long as possible letting the air out very very slowly when you can no longer hold your breath. It doesn't always work the firs time and you will look very silly but it usually works for me.
Cheers ronaldinu

I don't have any continueing problem as you mention but I wanted to share with you a
story about my husband. He had the hic-ups for a very long time and it was starting to
really hurt him, in the throat and chest and lungs. So after about two weeks of suffering
he went to the hospital and they admitted him because they said he was damaging his
throat and his stomach. They gave him some medicines and eventually they were able
to stop it, but it took about a week in the hospital. So by the time his hic-ups were
cured he had rips in his throat and they had to give him antibiotics for that. And then
he had to be on a liquid diet for about a month so his stomach could heal.
So having the hic-ups for a long time can be very serious. I am surprised about this
guy you heard about in the news, 2 years. My husband would never have survived two years.
Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend,
Have a good mylotting day, Chris

Hi ya chris
It's sounds like your husband's hiccups were quite violent ones to have done that sort of damage. This guy with the 2 year long hiccups was interviewed and his hiccups didn't sound to bad more of a sharp intake of breath if you know what I mean. Your poor husband that must have been absolutely terrible for him. I did think to myself, and I am not disrespecting when I say this but, I did think what he would say to his work collegues ask him why he was off sick and he said hiccups!
Thanks chris

I think I heard about that guy that had the hick ups for a long time, my goodness I couldn't imagine having the hick ups for that long, I mean WOW! when I get the hick ups its really uncomfortable to me even for just a few minutes so having the hick ups for 2 years would really be unpleasant, poor guy.

I would hate to have the hiccups all the time. Its already annoying to get it for a few minutes hear and there. I guess after two years you may get used to the idea and ignore it. Start to live with it.
