Have you ever not known if you liked a meal?

Have you ever eaten a dish that you weren't entirely sure if you liked it or not?
Tonight I made sweet and sour chicken from a recipe book. It didn't smell right, so I mixed a few other ingredients in there from a recipe I'd used once before. The result was... interesting. It was definitly sweet, and definitly sour... but not completely what I expected. I tasted it and thought it was definitly tasty, but then thought perhaps it was just too strong. Each bite made me think differently of it.
I finished the whole meal and still wasn't sure if I liked it or not, or if I plan on trying this dish again.
Has that ever happened to you?

I like to experiment. So when I run into something I'm not entirely sure about, I'll play with it one or two more times before reaching a verdict. Maybe it needs a little spice, or a little less of something? Add or take just a little and it might become your favorite recipe ever!

The thing is, I'm just not sure what it has too much of. I think it's a bit too sweet, but I know I added too much apple cider vinegar, because for awhile that's all I could smell. Maybe I should have used plain vinegar instead of apple cider, that could have added to the sweetness of it. After that I added a bit more lemon juice, and some worchestershire.
I might try it again, but I'm just not sure. If I do try it again it will probably be a long time from now, or I'll try a different recipe.

The apple cider vinegar probably made it more sweet than you wanted.
I haven't done a sweet and sour recipe in a while though I think that's what I used too. Okay, now I'm curious. I'm making sweet and sour something tomorrow and I'll play with the "sweetness".

I've never really experienced this first hand, but I think my husband did. A while back, we went to McDonalds and he tried the Big N' Tasty. After he was done, he said he didn't know if he liked it or not. Then he tried it again and decided that he didn't really care for it, but he kept ordering it for some odd reason. He couldn't make up him mind if he liked it or not. I thought it was quite weird.
I've had dishes that I didn't love, but I didn't hate it either. It was just okay. I'm not sure if this is the same feeling that you and my husband are referring to, but I don't think it is.
Hopefully the dish turns out well the next time you decide to make it. Good luck!

No, it's not so much that I didn't love it, but didn't hate it. It's more or less I just don't know what I think of it. I sort of love it and hate it at the same time, and can't decide which way I'm leaning towards most. It was just different.

I have never fixed a meal myself that I wasn't sure I liked. But others have cooked and I have thought I am not sure about this. My hubby made a crock pot chicken meal with rice once. I guess it was tasty. I don't care too much for rice. I think it may have been better with noodles.

Hey kats! Yes, I have had that happen to me before! I don't
particularly like sweet and sour together. It makes it kind
of hard to decide what it is supposed to taste like. You can't
decide if it is too sweet or too sour! I like things either
one way or the other! I like one definite taste at a time!
I have on occasion tried a new dish and gotten all the way
through it and still couldn't really decide if I liked it
or not and didn't know if I wanted to make it again. And if
I am that unsure of something I usually won't make it again.
