Yesterday I went to the doctor for the exam I was afraid of you know the tube down the throat, well it turns out that I didn't have the exam at all. I had just an Xray. I had to drink a barium enema, then wait for it to descend into my bowel and they take Xrays of that. Now they told me it could take a half hour maybe three all depending on my digestive system, well I must have the slowest digestive system in town it took 4 hours. I was the first person there and the last to leave. My darn digestive system has been slow for over 20 years now. Have you ever thought you were going for one exam and when you get that it was totally different from what you thought? I still can't figure out how that happened, I know the Doctors said a tube down the throat. so discussion questions again Have you ever thought you were going for one exam and when you get that it was totally different from what you thought? Do you also have a sluggish digestive system? If so what do you do for it?

That stuff is so yucky..I had to drink something like that once. It was chalky and thick they tried to disguise it with a orange flavor but didn't do much good. Nope never went in for one thing only have another, but there is still times for that to happen.. umm, I don't appear to have one I think that my digestive system is fine at this time.

I can't say that has ever happened, but I think I have a pretty normal digestive system. Now, my former roommate's mom thought she had to have a bowel movement after every meal and gave herself derviticulitus from taking meds to force them. When she tried to challenge me on that I told her that she was just wrong, and that medical problem she brought on herself, that I had a coworker who was told by her doctor that if she kept doing it she was going to get it too. Sure, there are times when my food expresses, but I've heard that some people express their food thru in 15-45 minutes, and this can cause serious medical problems. So, don't be upset with your slow system, it is healthier than going too fast!

But you aren't talking about days to work its way thru either. Besides, there has only been one case of a person dying from constipation....

It sounded easier, just longer. I hope they find good results, so there will be no more nasty tests. I have never had that happen. Although I went to the doctor today expecting him to run a couple of tests on me and instead he is sending me to a neurologist. That scares me.

I am having involuntary jerks or spasms all through my body. No one else notices, they are small, but I feel them and it happens most when I am just sitting around. The doctor thought maybe it was restless leg, and gave me meds, but it did not do any good and seemed to make it worse. He has no idea where to start.

yes i was easier just longer, well a neurologist is just another specialist, he will decide what tests you need that is all. I have been to a neurologist before, nothing was wrong with me, so it seems.

Not that I can recall. never had the tube down the throat or the other stuff. So dont know how my system is lol Sometimes I can just feel the food hit my tummy. Really only time I ever go to a Doctor is when I hurt so bad I cant stand it and cant fix it myself!. Then as you can see it was major surgery!.

Hello winterose, I did have that in my previous time.I did had very sluggish life style.Very firstly i have changed my sluggish life style to an active one by doing exercises daily minimum for the 15 minutes.I did started drinking about one ltr.of water on arising from bed. This helped me a lot.I think life style changes has a main role in this.

actually the only time that has happened was at the dentist. They have scheduled me for cleanings too early and then I've gone in and they have suddenly realized the error...happened a couple of times and always a very very nice surprise...not only do I save money but...I just really hate the whole ordeal even tho it really is nothing. Always happy to have my day back and the free time...all of it.

I think I have pretty much only gotten what was expected. I bet you were relieved when you found out you did not have to have a tube down your throat, I know I would have been, just the thought of that makes my blood pressure go up. I have always had problems with my digestion, my plumbing gets backed up a lot, if you know what I mean. I try to eat a lot of fiber, I also take a couple of Benefiber capsules every day. I also drink green tea on occasion, and if it gets really bad stool softeners. I know much information.

well i have not experienced that kind of thing. cause i don't got to the doctor that often. thank GOd i am healthy. anyways, that exam down the throat is not painful at all. cause my father had that and never felt any thing. cause they will do it slowly and because there is a camera on the end of the tube they will be able to avoid sticking to any parts of the body while going through the nose down to the throat. cause it is inserted first into one of the holes of then nose you will not feel any thing at all. even a kid can bear the procedure. but thankfully you did not have that exam still.

I loathe taking tests and if I had to have a test where they put a tube down my throat then they would have to put me out first. A few years ago I had surgery and I begged the doctor to remove the tube before I woke up. He did so. Thank God. My only experience was that before they gave me the anaesthetic they said that I did not have any medical problems. I shot up in the bed, even though I had been sedated, and yelled out that I had high bp! funny in retrospect as my daughter heard me. Her job was to make sure that I was not left alone after the anaesthetic in case I threw up and no one was there. She was brilliant. Blessings

All I can say is that I have had endoscopy with conscious sedation and a barium enema and I MUCH prefer the endoscopy. I did not feel and thing with the endoscopy but the barium enema was HORRIBLE. Even passing all the barium after the procedure was torture.

yes I agree that one with the tube up the rectum and barium enema I had in december was horrible, and the pain from the barium enema was hell, but this one was pain free, just xrays and nothing else, expect to drink the barium and even that didn't taste bad.

No that has never happened to me before but one time long ago now I had a growth on my arm and the doctor said he didn't really like the look of it and we'd better get rid of it. I agreed and not being a real brave chick I kept my appointment, went in with wobble knees and he came in and said we'll I have some good news and some bad news, I'll give you the bad news first, we have totally ran out of freezing and about the time he said BUT.. I was on my feet ready to leave, he saw the humor in that and said, But we have some good strong whiskey then he laughed like crazy. I didn't know what to think but he froze me and dug the growth out and it came back OK. Take Care and have a great night.

So far, that kind of medical exam you had never happened to me yet. How would you really feel if your unexpected exam would be more worst than the other one.I think I should consult my physician first. Well, maybe that was just an isolated case. I have also a problem in my digestive system. I think it's normal as we get older. What I used to do is drink more water. I am on water therapy. Every meal I follow it with 500liter of water. Try go on having water therapy..cheers..

I don't see your point, my question was have you ever thought you were going to have a certain test and it turned out to be another one.
