We're in a winter wonderland right now, ice-covered everything! It's beautiful!

It started last night. Rain. Freezing rain. As soon as it hits anything, it freezes immediately. It's treacherous to drive on, but the scenery is breathtaking! Have you seen this yourself? It's beautiful but very, VERY dangerous.
I'm not setting foot outside until the ice is gone from the roads but I sure am enjoying the scenery while it's lasting. Here's a picture of one of our trees.
How do you feel when you get freezing rain that covers everything in ice (assuming you do, that is)? Do you have any pictures of it?

You got what passed through here, in Ohio. We didn't get the beautiful ice-covered trees, it was just a mess. 67 crashes yesterday morning and I don't know how many last evening. This is a big advantage of losing my job, I don't have to go out and drive on the ice!
Now it's been snowing since about 9am and it is gorgeous! It's nice to be inside and look out at it.

I took a picture just for you!I hope your hubby is making some decent money at home--sometimes losing a job is the best thing that could happen, it makes us stretch our minds and come up with inventive ways to make a living. And we don't have to drive in the ice and snow!!

Wow!!! That's a lot of accidents! You'd think, living where you do, that more people would know how to take extra safety measures when driving in this stuff, but they don't. It always amazed me when I lived in Maryland; everyone was always whining and complaining about it... like they'd never seen it before!
Yes, not having to drive in this mess is always a plus! I'm glad I was sick all weekend because my hubby went out and bought all kinds of goodies from the grocery store. We're fully stocked so I don't have to go out, either!
I do wish we'd get more snow here, though. We got more snow in Maryland than we do here in the mountains in Virginia! I ADORE snow! I want so badly to make a snow angel... I've been waiting so patiently... okay, not so patiently.
Do you have any photos of your snow?

Oh, I forgot to add that hubby lost his job two weeks before Christmas so he's working from home now and I KNOW he's happy! LOL

I live in Pennsylvania and I wish we would get a nice good snowfall. We just keep getting freezing rain which just causes problems. I would rather enjoy the scenary of snow!

I hear ya! I'd much rather have snow, too. We just moved to the mountains last year BECAUSE my husband adores the snow. He was born in February, the month when we typically get the most snow so he probably associates it with good times.
I've been wanting to make some snow angels but so far all we've had are these danged ice storms!

You can have all the snow you want. I hate the cold, and the snow. You can keep it.

Our trees look exactly like that right now. We had ice yesterday and then it started icing over pretty badly last night and stopped sometime earlier today I think. Everything is covered in ice except the roads it seems. It seems those are pretty clear.

I just looked outside and, apparently, it's above the freezing mark outside because the ice is melting from the trees.
Oh, well, at least it hasn't gotten so bad that power lines or tree limbs have come down, at least not on our property.
I haven't been out so I don't know what the roads were like but, from what I can see of the trees, there's probably no ice on the roads now, either.

I don't have any pictures of it. But I do remember when we received an ice storm while my brother in highschool and it was over in my home town. And I live in a place that maybe once in a blue moon you will see snow or you'll have an ice storm. I thought that it was really pretty as well. I think although, like you said, ice storms are pretty but dangerous. It kind of was not cool because, we didn't have any electricity and we were freezing and had to have our stove on during the whole time. The only cool thing about it was that we were out of school for a whole week, but once again was bad because we had to make up for the time we missed in school during the ice storm. But the scenery was beautiful.

I was just like you about having that time off from school. Yeah, we had to make up for it later but that unexpected 'vacation' was great! We got to stay home from school AND play in the snow! Ah, memories!
We lost our electricity for a week, too, when I was young. I remember all of us sleeping in one room, eating in that room, basically doing everything but, well, you know, when nature called, in that one room.

That is beautiful but it really looks cold. It rained here last night and the wind is high today but it's not any bad weather. It is amazing how you all have rain, ice and snow, and I am not that far below you in the states and the weather is not that bad. I was looking at the weather channel yesterday and they were talking about all this wintry weather in Tennessee and I am not that far from Tennessee either. I am not asking for this wintry weather either. I do exactly like you when we do get ice, sleet and snow. Stay In The House As Much As Possible.

It's funny, Chevee, but we moved here to the mountains because my husband loves snow so much but we've had way more freezing rain and sleet than snow!
Yes, be thankful that you don't get weather as nasty as this. I'm just thankful that neither of us has to go out in this AND that yesterday and today are my son's days off work so he doesn't have to drive in it, either.
Don't worry... I'm staying in! Because I was sick all weekend, hubby stocked up on all kinds of goodies from the grocery store... plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, juices, soups, stuff like that. I'm not going anywhere until this clears up! It's already starting to melt (); that's both a bad thing AND a good thing. LOL

I live in Southern California so we don't see anything like this. I lived in Dallas for 5 years and about once a year, we would get an ice storm. I wish that I had pictures of it but at the time, it never occurred to me that I would move to LA and never live with snow and ice again. I'd forgotten how beautiful it is.

Hindsight is always 20/20, huh? I've been through many ice storms but never thought to take a picture until today! I wish I had pictures of previous storms because some of them were more breathtaking than this one, even though they brought down power lines and tree limbs. I hope this one ends soon before any damage is done!

I hope that it stops before you have any damage too. Good luck to you and everyone that is dealing with the snow and ice right now.

We have more snow than ice. It is pretty slippery though. It is pretty out, but not if you have to be out in it!!

We had sleet and freezing rain, followed by a blizzard mid December. I did not get any shoits of the ice though as it was too nasty to go outdoors. But here in Minnesota we have had a lot of snow so far this winter. Getting a couple more inches on Friday as well. Here's a shot from one of the snowstorms Dec 20th. It is of my backyard as the snow fell. Had about a foot on the ground as it started to snow again.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

That is absolutely beautiful. I'm in Sydney, Australia, and the only natural ice we ever see is the occasional hailstorm and maybe some very early morning frost in winter. I think snow and ice are very exotic and gorgeous to look at, but I don't think I'd want to have to deal with them on a day to day basis. Take care on those slippery roads.

Hey mentalward! Nice photo! We got the same weather last night!
It was really bad out there, but it was beautiful as long
as you didn't dare try to step foot outside the door! My
boyfriend got home from work around 9:45PM and it had already
started to ice up and he said he almost slipped a few times
and he had rubber soles on his shoes so you can only imagine
how bad it was getting. And that was only the beginning of
the ice storm! Then this morning the schools were delayed and
everything was delayed and I had a very important medical
appointment that I had to get to of course! Luckily the
ambulette was able to pick me up on time! It still is raining
and it is now 24 hours later! I hope it doesn't freeze up
again tonight because I have to walk tomorrow to get my
prescriptions and I am deathly afraid of falling and breaking
another bone!

oooh man... i live in switzerland and i hate it when something freezes :P i always slip about 2 or 3 times. that's not funny. it's about -7 degree here and it does look beatiful. at least it did once, but now the snow starts disapearing. ( kinda weird cause the temperature never raises over 0 degree )
in the forrest it's really beatiful, cause we have that little waterfall, which freezes. that looks great, maybe i'll take a photo of it on saturday. you gotta see that :D

Yes I have heard that there has been bad weather in some places this past season. I live in Alabama where we don't get that kind of inclement weather when it comes to ice and snow or freezing rain.
I used to live north in Pennsylvania where they are experiencing some freezing rain and snow every now and again. Much more often then down here in the heart of Dixie. I have lived down here with my husband and son for about eight months now and we get tornado warnings once in a while. That kind of can be scary sometimes. Take care and enjoy your winter. I hope that you stay safe and be careful also.

So far this year I've only seen a little ice where water cascaded off the mountains and froze on the way down. This will be my first winter in a cold climate in a long time and I am looking forward to getting some good pictures. We have been having a lot of unseasonal rain for the last few days. It has been warm though so there was no danger of freezing. Now that the rain has stopped the temperature is dropping and the wind is picking up so I guess we will get some ice soon. Last night my daughter and I went to the store in the rain. On the way out of the parking lot we looked across at the cliff on the other side of the road. There was a beautiful waterfall going on. I tried to take some pictures but I don't know how they turned out because it was almost dark. It would have been awesome if it would have froze like that.
