when i was a kid we used to all sit around in a circle and somebody would walk around the outside of the circle and put their hand on each person's head while saying duck...duck...duck...duck...until they finally said GOOSE!!! and then that person would have to get up and chase the first person around the circle trying to tag them before they got to the empty spot. yep......those were good times.......good times. well then i moved to Minnesota and i was working at a fast food place, and the story of "duck duck goose" came up. only they don't play "duck duck goose" in Minnesota........they play "duck duck gray duck" we even did a survey in the drive through, and the majority of the people, of course being from there, played "duck duck gray duck" but, there was a few people from different parts of the US that played "duck duck goose" so did you play "duck duck goose" or did you play "duck duck gray duck"??? or are you too old/young/clueless, from another country, are just don't have a clue what the he11 i'm talking about?

I know of this game but I do not recall ever playing anything similar when I was a child growing up in Australia. The version I have heard of involves the term goose and not gray duck by the way. Maybe I can come up with an Aussie version and teach the kids there when I get back home? Hmmmmm. Echidna..... Echidna..... Echidna..... PLATYPUS! Now RUN you little buggers..... RUN!

yeah, that's what the Canadian Gooses do.....when i lived in Minnesota, they hang out in the grass by the highway off ramps, and if you walk by them, they all stand up and start walking towards you all honking and hissing and stuff and so you got to walk by real fast cuz they're kinda like zombies with feathers trying to get you.

Apparently your region can't tell the difference between a gray duck & a goose. Maybe glasses are in order. When we played it was Duck...Duck...Duck..Goo( crunch )as he got his leg grabbed & fell as he tried to run away. Good times there.

I have never heard of anyone playing the game with gray duck before. I grew up playing Duck Duck Goose, and the children that I work with tend to play Duck Duck Goose as well. I have never heard that type of variation on it before. I have heard of variations on it substituting other things that the children may be learning about, but never Duck Duck Gray Duck. That's so strange.

Never, never, EVER heard of this game. I guess they didn't play it in our neighborhood in Texas. Either that, or they didn't play it with me....

Hey sconi! I'm born and breed from NY and we played the only game I ever heard of "duck, duck, duck, goose"! I never heard of it being played any other way! So this grey duck stuff is news to me! That must be the only state that played it that way! I guess you had to get used to it! What a fun game that was! Chasing people around in a circle to get to sit down again! Yipee! Almost as fun as "musical chairs"! Member that one?

i can't say what it is here, cause we play it totally different. we say a little poem and you touch the persons head. at the end of the poem, the person you touched last has to get up and chase you. i loved the scene in "the simpsons" where ralph has to play duck duck goose and he never says goose :D
