Would you ever consider auditioning for a reality television show?

Hi there my fellow Mylotters, it seems to me that least half of the television shows on right now are reality TV shows. Shows like Survivor, Big Brother, the Bachelor, and Fear Factor to name a few.
Would you, or have you ever tried out for reality television series? Would you ever consider becoming part of a television series if you're asked? Are there things that you would absolutely not be willing to do, for example, would you be able to eat the various bugs and disgusting things they require the contestants of Fear Factor?
Under what circumstances if any, would you be part of reality TV? Do you want your 15 minutes of fame? Would it be worth your while, to participate, in the hopes of getting recognition, in future modeling careers or some other area in the entertainment business?
Please share your thoughts on participating in a reality television show. Would you ever do it? Why or why not? As always, your responses are greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid my opinion of reality TV is unprintable. The mildest thing I could say about is, that if commercial TV is generally a wasteland, reality TV is a nuclear winter.
TO have to get your moment of fame through a commercialised piece of garbage no more real than professional "wrestling" seems to me to be a sad comment on a person's character and capabilities.

Oh well said. I was struggling to find words to express how I feel about reality tv and you have said it so well. It is a sad comment on their character but it is also the case that many of them are caught up in the idea that they might get the money and improve their life.

Why don't you tell me how you really feel! One of the reasons that I started this discussion in the first place is because I'm amazed what some people will do for their 15 minutes of fame. With the advent, of cell phones and the Internet everyone has a camera at their disposal. What gets me is that some people are not afraid to use it!
It seems to me that people need to go to further and further extremes in order to stand out or be different. I prefer to go unrecognized by many, and loved by a few.
Thanks for the response.

Of all the reality shows that I watch, Amazing Race would be the one I would be most interested in. Travel to different countries, see other cultures, sounds like fun. I'm a great navigator and between my husband and myself we know three languages and we can think pretty quickly between us. He could hopefully do most of the ones involving heights and physical stuff. But I don't really think I'm in good enough shape physically, unfortunately.

I dislike reality shows extremely. I think they are a very vulgar display of people’s talents and rather than bring out the best in them, it really brings out the worst in them in terms of manners and social behaviour. At least for adults its understandable, but school and college going kids who should ideally learn how to bond with each other and make society a better place, are all over with claws bared and sharpened. I don’t want my 15 minutes of fame neither would I want any child of mine to have it.

Absolutely not!!! Not even in my worst nightmare. I hate reality television and I think those shows are appalling. I would never watch them and certainly never participate. I think it shows that people are desperate for money that they will do anything for a chance to get some.
I have no interest in fame and would never do things like this just for a chance to win money knowing that only one person can actually get any money so the rest of you are getting nothing.

I wouldn't, but there's people in my family I'd like to see on reality shows. I'd like my brother to do the Amazing Race, and my sister in law to do Trading Spouses, heh heh!

I would love to audition for the show Solitary. Of all the reality shows I've seen, that one seems to be the most respectable. It also seems to be easy to win; barring getting disqualified by other means, you simply have to never hit the "Quit" button. I would not do disgusting things such as eat bugs and such for money, because you are not guaranteed the money and a lot of people will see you differently after the show.
Overall, I think it would be interesting to participate in a reality show, as long as it didn't damage my image publicly.

I don't think I have seen that particular show, I'm assuming they're alone somewhere without any other human beings or living things around you... If that's the case, I may be able to do something like that. I don't know how I would be under conditions of extreme isolation, I like being alone, but I like knowing that I can call anyone are talked to anyone any time I like! Those are two very different things.
Thank you for your comments and I see you are a relatively new to Mylot, so welcome and happy posting!

I like to watch TV reality shows but thinking myself to be one of the contestant is far from reality. For fear factor well, I don't really like to eat those insects or climb, swim and do some stunts. For Big brother well the task is not that difficult but I don't like to think that many videos are watching around me and monitoring whatever I'm doing.

I am pretty adventurous, and I like to experiment and try new things. I would like to go bungyjumping or skydiving, but there are a few things that I would never consider no matter what, and one of them is auditioning for a reality show. I don't care how much money I can win, I wouldn't do it for a million dollars. I am too shy to participate in something like that and my privacy is too important to me, it is simply out of the question.

I myself wouldn't audition for any reality tv series or be on tv for anything. For one, I am a sensitive and shy person and I don't like it when people will approach me because they've seen on tv.
Honestly at first I was fond of watching those reality tv series. But now I kinda got fed up watching them. Because of all the other reality shows that are popping up in tv. I would rather watch Discovery channel than watch those reality shows. Anyway, Have a nice day!

I would not. I find alot of it very tacky. I would not have the patience or the intrest in it lol Thats jusst me. I think alot of it is annoying and is not very good entertainment. Some things are private and need to be kept that way. I think its in poor taste to air all the dirty laundry and the bad language....and lets face it, alot of it is just very disgusting. There are alot of people who look at this differently because the shows go on and conrinue in their popularity. I dont really watch them....so I am not even sure about which ones are hot and which ones are not lol

No, I wouldn't do it and they wouldn't pick me anyway. I am way too "normal" to be on any of those shows. I'm not loud, pushy or rude. Although my mom wanted my sister and I to try out for some greatest race show. I never did see a show. I am not a big tv watcher anymore.

No money in the world can pay the psicological stress of these kinds of show. My friends ask me why I don´t be part of one of these shows cause I worked with music in the past and I am a very exotic kind of person. I always say:"no way, me doing those things, with people watching everything. I am exibitionist but I like also to have my privacy, that´s quite important for me."
