Is it safe to take saffron during pregnancy?

January 8, 2009 7:08pm CST
I am 14 weeks pregnant. My mother asked me to take saffron (herb) with milk from now. But, my friend told it should be taken from 5th month. Is it safe to take during pregnancy? Or is there any month from when I should start?

I just delivered my baby 10 days ago and based from my not-so-far experience, everything you take in or put to your skin should be consulted with you OB-Gyne. Better safe than sorry.

There is no study or any other evidence to support any claim that saffron is good during pregnancy. During your entire pregnancy, you should consume about 3 cups of milk per day. It doesn't have to be saffron milk. Many people believe that it makes the unborn child's skin fair, but that is a myth. You can't change genetics by consuming saffron. Good luck to you!

this is a question that you should ask your doctor. To be honest there are many things that you should or shouldn't take while being pregnant but the best person to get advice from in this situation would be your doctor. Good Luck
