My girlfriend's birthday is fast approaching. She is not the typical girl who is into material things and prefers stuff that she can actually use or need. I cannot be with her since I am overseas and we are very far apart.
What can you suggest?...Everything would be appreciated and maybe you could give me some idea what to give as gift for my gf. You can also share your story of what you gave your gf/wife on her birthday. Thank you in advance.

Oh, thanks for dropping by. It seemed like you missed out the discussion. It is impossible that I would be with her because am here in the Middle East and she is in the Philippines. heheheh

well if she's not the material type and you're overseas then that will be difficult. maybe enroll her to a fitness program or any spa or health program. or subscribe her to a magazine or book membership. hope that could help. have a good day:)

That is a good idea. She is not into fitness stuff, perhaps a great massage spa would be good. Thank you so much!

maybe you can give her spa certificates so she can pamper herself, girls love that. or you can enrol her in a cooking class, if she's into that. or a gym membership if she's a health buff. or a subscription of her fave magazine.
useful material gifts (for me) - watch, perfume, gadgets-cellphone,ipod,digicam,videocam,laptop.

Tell her that since you are so far away and aren't familiar with what's new out there that girls want now a days, give her money and she can spend it anyway she wants. It wouldn't hurt to send flowers too, cause I don't care what girls say about how they don't care about getting flowers...they are lying! Girls always love flowers, especially when they stop coming!!! lol! good luck!

Write her a long letter , letting her know how much you miss her , Send it with her favorite flowers . Another good idea if it is possible , send her a open airline ticket{one that can be used at any time} so that she can fly out to see you and spend a few days with you .

I love personlizationmall.com. They have a huge variety of gifts that you can have personalized just for her. They have trinket boxes, pictures frames (for a special picture of you or the two of you), and many other great gifts to choose from. They are not very expensive either. Some of them are whimsical, but many of them have a practical use. I hope this helps.

You can send her an ipod. She will definitely like it & will definitely use it. Once on my husband's birthday I gave him a laptop. He was very happy.

I am not materialistic and prefer gifts that have some thought or meaning behind them. Perhaps a poem or sweet note in her card. Or send her a recording of you telling her how much you love and miss her and wish her every happiness evn though you can't be with her. Perhaps arrange a surprise evening out with her closest friends paid for by you... the possibilities are endless... just let your imagination run wild. But i'm sure what ever you decide it will be the thought that will mean most to her regardless of the actual gift. Good luck.

Hello snopkitty! My husband surprised me by sending me flowers and chocolates last valentines day. He ordered it online because he live from the other country right now. I got really shocked and felt like I'm so special. My love for him grew even more and I really proved that he loves me so much. If she is not into a material thing and she wants something she can use. Try to order at ebay and send it to her. There are many things which is very cheap there. I even found a sony digicam that only costs less than $40.

I strongly encourage taking a class that she would enjoy and benefit from. Maybe you could try the massage classes, dance classes or cooking classes for her. There are all lasting gifts that will bring many of pleasure.
Or does she like nature? Maybe she likes to go out of town.
Or maybe a magazine subscription for her. It would be based on something the person is interested in, gardening, cooking, photography... Not too expensive and yet something that some thought was put into and continual reminder throughout the year.
