A few months ago I entered a wildlife photography competition for NC Wildlife Magazine. The contest was co-sponsored by the state division of parks and recreation. Of all of the photos entered in the competition taken in state parks, one photo was selected to win a special "Best In State Parks" award. Well, none of my photos won. But of the 1,255 photos taken in state parks, one of my photos was chosen as one of the top ten entries and is currently displayed on the NC Division of Parks And Recreation website!
If you're interested in seeing my photos, visit http://www.ncparks.gov/News/media_room/contest.php and click the link that says "Visit our gallery to view the winning photo and other state park favorites." My photo is the one of the caterpillar!
I am very excited!
Do you enter photo contests? Have you had a lot of success in these contests?

Congratulations!
It is a beautiful picture you got entered that scored the top ten.
With the shots you are taking, I am sure more of such shots will come along soon!
I have recently only entered the photography realm.
And I must say, you take a lot of really interesting shots.
I especially love the ones you take of sunsets in your profile blog.
The one where there is a clear segregation of gold and blue, how did you manage to capture such a shot in such brillant colors?

Thank you! I guess I'm just lucky that I get such vibrant sunsets in my own backyard!

You are not just lucky my friend!
You are blessed!
I love to look at sunsets. And I have yet to actually witness a sunset as nice as the one I saw when I was in Bangkok!
Boy do I love to visit your place just to catch the sunsets!
Erm... more pictures of the beautiful sunsets? :p

Not fair, Lindsay...it should have won! I would be proud to call this image mine. I'll just have to settle for bragging that I know the artist!

Congrats! That must have made you feel really good. I would love to win a photo contest. I guess I need to check into more of them. I never enter any that charge a fee. How many have you entered? Is this your first win? Good luck in the future.

Thank you! I've never won 1st place in a photo contest, but I've been a finalist several times and I've been a runner up a few times. This particular contest was free to enter. Most of the photo contests I enter don't have entry fees. However, I enter the contest sponsored by Photographer's Forum magazine every year and that has a small entry fee. And I enter the photo competition at the state fair every year, and that has an entry fee. And I enter photo contests my local photo club runs and those have entry fees.

Congratulations. I had to go to the sight and look. They're all great photos. North Carolina is a beautiful state. I had the fun of traveling through it numerous times when I lived on the east coast.

wow way to go, you must be floating. It's nice to get recognition for the photos we take and see that other ppl see the beauty in them as well and it's not just ourselves. I have entered a few but as of yet have not come as close as you have. Right now i'm trying to take everything in and learn.
I used to live in N.C. and yes it is very pretty. and cold. My grandmother lived in Maggie Valley and man did they have a lot of scary views, beautiful but scary...lol. My favorite part to take pics is at or around the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, it has a strange culture there. It's like you are in another country for a short while. Anyway, the Biltmore Estate takes my breath away every time I go there.
