Kellogg Co. says it still plans to raise prices on the majority of its cereal brands and Pop-Tarts toaster pastries because of high costs for commodities such as food and oil. This is the link to the story, http://www.walletpop.com/article/_a/bbdp/kellogg-raising-prices-on-cereal-pop/300079?icid=200100397x1216197725x1201112983
Why not have oatmeal, other brands of cereal, cream of wheat? What do you say, would you pay it?

I rarely if ever buy brand name cereal products. I tend to buy the less expensive store brands. Some of them are actually better than the name brands! Even if they had to raise the prices I would buy them.

Prices go up. The need for the product keeps us buying.

I find that even using coupons at our local store that doubles them only brings the price to nearly what the store brand is at another store. The cost of the other items you buy are even higher.

I am budget wise and I usualy go with the store brands unless, there is a sale ot I have a coupon. It really adds up in a years time. I shop for good values and the beest values.

I think these big companies are hurting themselves. Yes, prices for them to produce are going up, but incomes and salaries are not. So... they raise their prices, and we can't afford them, so what do we do? We buy the next cheaper one - or the one we can afford - which is not the name brand so they dont get sold, so the company doesn't make any profits....so how have they helped their production costs? They havent. Why big companies can't see that is beyond me. It is just common sense...leave it as is, cut a few costs elsewhere namely some overly high salaries and things like that. But what will they do? THey will lay off hte loweest paid employees.. again, how stupid can they be! But oh well, I shop at DOllar Tree and get Malt-O-Meal cereals for a dollar! And they are great!

I agree with you because it drives more people away then it brings them to the product and when you drive them away , they have less reason to come back....how they look at this , I do not know....but I am not paying 10 bucks for cereal lol that is a joke...

So true with Restaurants Coffee!
I am getting so disgusted with the prices of eating out
Beyond that, I work in a grocery store and it is sad but the price for a large JUMBO Family sized box of name brand cereal can be upwards of eight dollars and I live in Canada it is absolutely ridiculous and I won't pay it for cereal!!!

Isn't that ridiculous pricing? Granted I have not seen any for $10 but then I don't look at it really unless I happene to be walking down that isle in the store, and then it is just nausiating!
but I my husband insists on Kellogs Corn Flakes - nothing else (like that plain old nothing flake of corn can have such a different taste among brands!) But I paid $4.99 for a large box. I could have gotten a pound of new york steaks for that price!!!
ANd thing is to, once people change cause of price, seldom do they "go back" when the previous brand goes down in price... if they do. So, I just have never understood raisiing prices in hard times.
Same with resturant right now.... instead of lowering their menu pricing, they raise it! Stupid stupid!! If people stop eating out cause they couldn't afford $10 a meal, how the heck do they think the same people can afford $13 a meal!??!?!!

Honestly for us it doesn't concern me much as I don't buy Kellogg anything and haven't for quite sometime. We went to store brand cereal a long time ago. I couldn't see paying so much for something I can get for $1.79 at Save-a-lot. The kids live without Pop-Tarts I make our breakfast instead if they don't want cereal.
Luckily my kids like Corn Flakes too and you can get a big box for $1.19 at Save-a-lot too! If we have a breakfast treat we have breakfast bars and of course store brand only!

I agree. Its just ridiculuos to think of them charging more and more. I will stay with the store brands and they can do whatever they want....WE HAVE ALTERNATIVES.. Appreciate the response.

First of all, I only buy name brands when they are on sale and it must be a really good price at that! Otherwise, I buy the store brand cereals or no name so to speak!! My son doesn't know the difference and they are really the same in ingredients it is just the packaging and perhaps some color differences etc but hey who cares...I will never pay six dollars for a box of cereal!!! I like spending no more than four dollars for a large box or two dollars for the smaller size...The way my boy goes through cereal I have to be frugal with this!

I cant really see any difference in most of it either. I bought two different kinds of raisin bran cereal and they both were the same...store brand...and the name brand.....so why pay more for a name?

I have been buying store brands on almost everything anyway. Those greedy people should be ashamed of trying to raise prices now and there should be laws to stop it.... Boy cott time,,,,,,ugh!

people can boycott this by not buying the stuff or simply switching to store brands. believe it or not the same places that make the name brands make the store brand equivalents of that product so all you are paying more for is a name. it is the same exact product in a generic package.

We should boycott them...I am always buying just the store brands and you make a good point, if we all stick together then we can force the prices down...appreciate the response....

Personally I think Pop-Tarts are vile they are like eating cardboard sandwiches to me they are not appetizing and make me so thirsty afterwards, so I won't be bothered at the price increase because I don't buy them although I do think they are wrong to put the price up especially with everything else going up, they make enough profit as it is!!!! So why penalize the consumer? Just because they may have the name and the buyers market. I usually eat muesli for breakfast or chocolate crunch which is yummy and I have just found!

I am not supporting any company who uses this terrible time to try and take advantage of the circumstances. I agree with you Wolfie. They can spend less on packaging and whatever. I think its outragious, when you look at what they are already charging. Those pop tarts arent woth more money...lol and what good is it for Safeway to try and lower prices if the companies like Kellogs are going to shoot them up? It dosent make any sense friend. Its like a circus with clowns running the show lol and I am disgusted with what they have done to our people. ugh!

There are too many other companies and breakfast items out there. No way am I going to pay a ridiculous amount of money for cereal or pop tarts. There are some cereals out there that are already almost $5 a box and they aren't that big. Sorry, but that's just too much money to pay when it doesn't last long. Especially not in my home where I have three children.

I think they had better think again. Price of oil? I guess they can if they want to, but my kids will be eating something different if it is very much.

It doesn't surprise me really...everything is going up in price. I've always bought the Always Save brand of rice crispies and that's fine with me. I've never understood ppl that will spend $4-6 on a box of cereal...it just seems like a waste.

Yeah, this is too bad. It looks like all cereal companies may go out of business too. I mean, they, along with milk companies, are just increasing prices like crazy. Oh, and do not forget bread companies.
But, then again, the Bible says it will take a days wages to purchase a loaf of bread. This is in Revelation..

I don't eat much cereal or pop tarts so it really doesn't affect me....I do eat oatmeal alot but I am lucky not to be raising a family that needs stuff like that..but I am sure they all have a reason to raise prices....gotta keep the profit margin up! LOL

My mother, as a single parent is already struggling to put the neccesities in the house for us to eat. Personally, as a teenager i eat pop tarts everyday. I eat them for breakfast and for a snack. Why would they raise food prices in the time of a recession? People are losing their houses and some can't even afford food why make it worst. Especially for the people that can only eat pop tarts or cereal for breakfast lunch and dinner because that was the only thing they could afford.
