i had NO idea lobsters lived over 100 years old!!! well 20lb George isnt going to be eaten and will be freed into the wild!! i am surprised since they sell lobster for like $27 dollars a pound there!! of course some of that would be the claws though..
do you guys think this was a good thing since he got to live so long that he will get to continue his life in the wild or do you think its silly since he did get to live 140 years already and where is the butter?? lol..

where i am, there is a law or ordinance or whatever that prevents the catching of and consumptions of lobsters below or above a certain weight. them big f00kers are meant to stay where they are, and breed. otherwise, ventually.. theyll all be gone. george was prolly saved by the fact hes huge and gets to go back back from whence he came and go git jiggy with some girlie lobsters

I bet that he'll end up someone else's dinner. That is so creepy that they named the lobster, no wonder why they want to set him free; you can't eat something with a name. lol. well i wonder if the lobster will have difficulty adjusting to the wild. Just like you I never knew that lobsters lived that long either. That's kinda weird to think of. Eating something that's older than you are. kinda freaky. oh well. interesting discussion. have a wonderful day! :)

I think it was a GOOD thing to let the poor old lobster live! I hate seeing them in tanks just waiting to be scalded alive in boiling water. When I pass a live tank of them in my grocery store, I look away and hang my head in shame and guilt as I LOOOOOVE lobster in butter sauce!!

live his life in the wild? My fear is that he gets scooped up again for those greedy overreaching fishermen. If not that, how will he live in the wild when he didnt come from there--good luck buddy.

I think they should have kept him there for as long as they could although it must have been nice for George to be out and about where he came from. It's nice to see that the restaurant had some compasion towards the elder lobster.
Have a good night

Well, George was spared the dinner table Why aren't they keepin him where he was. My thought is, if he is released into the wild, he may wind up in someone's trap. I would imagine he wouldn't be very edible, after 140 years he may be a little tough. It is a nice a refreshing story to hear about George, rather than crime.
I did see this article earlier, thanks for posting it

I didn't know that lobsters can live over 100 years either. Wow, that's just so amazing. But I wouldn't want to eat him either way. He's 100 years old for goodness' sake. I don't think he would taste as good as the younger lobsters. Hee hee.

Whoa, that's a very good piece of news. It's not easy for a lobster to live over 100 years old which means this lobster is some sort of a record holder! But I do feel that this restaurant was left with no choice once the public knows about the existence of the lobster. Instead, they let it go and made a name for themselves!

It's a nice gesture but seems rather idiotic to me.. it is a restaurant and as far as i know lobsters aren't exactly endangered species... what's next? Release the clams? How about a sit down infront of Burger King insisting they stop selling hamburgers =P it is the same thing... lobsters are from the sea... they are seafood... and that is a seafood restaurant... not some torcher chamber of sorts.
I personally don't eat lobster but it's like .. there are bigger things to worry about than lobster rights... try human rights.

I too never know that lobster can live up to a century old!
That lobster much have been HUGE!
I wonder how much the restaurant paid for "George".
And what kind of pressure it was under to have to cave in to PETA requests to release it!
Wow, 140 years old. That darn lobster actually survived two world wars and a whole bunch of wars in between. Amazing it wasn't caught earlier and devoured!
Well, all I can say, this is one lucky lobster!

Hmmmmm - what a yummy thought!
Actually I am wondering how they know how old he is? he would have outlived any of the restaurant owners for sure and my uneducated guess is that the restaurant certainly won't have been in existance for 140 years ... so who is the clever clogs who has worked out how old this poor lobster is?
Enjoy

I would say Congrats George keep on living. I think it was a good thing because no matter what age you are you should live life to the fullest and make the best out of it. So to George live the rest of your days like it was your last.
