Do you know that all major search engines are storing your personal data?
They have your personal profile that can be used by marketers and possible hackers.
This is not referral link, but link to search engine that protects your privacy.

Yes, it is very shocking that our privacy is being invaded and our personal data is stored by those unknown persons, whom we definitely do not know. I've read that link. Please tell me, what we can do to protect our privacy. Thanks for the information.
Hugs!

A very interesting link , very useful, thank you. I did not know about that, and i am not very happy. ... mhm ..
Regarding your question, yes, we all care, this is the hottest problem we have on the internet.
I really appreciate those kind of postings, and if there is any way I could show that, please tell me ... is there a way i could vote for this user or discussion? Excepting my comment, of course.

My privacy means a lot to me but once you give your information out to any site on the internet, it is too late for the information not be shared with someone else. So, I have given up hope of trying to protect my privacy because it is too late for that now.

of course I do
my email addresses have been used to spread junk emails all over the world
that's why I put sort of disclaimer on my website and blog
so people that receive these emails (well hopefully they search for my business name or my name online) will see my website and blog and know those emails are fake
Yahoo can only send them to junk email box and they still missed some that went to my mailbox
Gmail hasn't missed any yet but they also send to junk email inbox, that's it
they wrote my email address as sender, they didn't really log in to my account
but I'm sure there is something else email providers can do aside from sorting it into junk mail box

It is not only about emails, but also about our daily search...
They store all information about your personal search and it is sell all over the world.
We are safe as long as someone is not opening an account with our information.

Privacy is something that is important to me. Even in my life, I am considered a private person. I keep profiles on sites vague. It is rare if I use my name on anything.

It kinda scares me all these companies out there that want to protect your privacy... who is to say they are not the ones that are doing the scamming out there.
Just like anything else, if you do what you are supposed to do and be where you are supposed to be (and not where you aren't) the chances of your identity being 'stolen' has got to decrease immensely.
Thanks
Zelo

you are right, there is no guarantee who is not doing the scanning...
whoever, identity theft can happen to anyone who is using www pages...

I would not go so far as to say that... you can use proxies and/or use public internet sites and there is no way to trace who is on the other end.
But... think of everytime you go to a restaurant and give a CC to some kid who served you your food to pay the bill or everytime you pay for something at a store. That is where it can become very easy to have your identity stolen.
Great as always.
Thanks
Zelo

It does not bother me, because I can clear personal data and you can put down information so no one knows, like using a user name, and just your email, but keeping your telephone number, street address secret. Oh and I think mylot moderators know the difference between a normal link and a link that has a referral link or your id number at the end, don't they? You do not have to tell them that. When I write a post or answer a discussion, I will put down the url to a site that will give them more information then I can give them. I am more afraid of copyright issues if I coped and pasted the information, you know being sued for thousands of dollars rather frightens me.

Well for instance, if I sign my name Betty Lena Smith (not my real name of course( on one site, then I will sign it B L Smith some other site, and then Betty Smith another site. Also some let you just enter your email address and maybe your first name . You have to read the instructions and they usually put in red what they want you to enter as your personal information. Also there are serious consequences for someone who works for the company taking your personal information and using it to send pictures of themselves in the altogether, like being fired.
And if we do use a fake name for those sites that require your real name, we could get sued or worse.

Unfortunately personal privacy is a thing of the past, and we have to live with it. This is a most detracting way of modern life, and with all these stoers of private and personal, I wonder why criminals are not captured nore easier. Food for thought.

I have heard about problems with the major search engines collecting search data and hackers and spammers using details, but whilst I have a fair amount of spam, I think that is from leaving my e-mail addresses on various sites around the web. Apparently there are spiders crawling the sites for e-mail addresses, so I have several web accounts like hotmail and yahoo. This ixquick site looks useful. I use spybot search and destroy and there is often lots of spyware files that it deletes, so it will be interesting to give ixquick and try and see what happens. Thanks for the link :-) Derek

I have heard that there is software that will conceal a person's IP account.I haven't bothered. I just keep my firewall to protect from hackers. Most spyware is more or less harmful - at least I have never found that is has caused problems to my computer (touch wood!), so every now and again, I will just use Spybot program to clean them all out.

Yes, I'm a nut about my privacy! That looks like a good idea but I don't see any mention of a price anywhere, is it free?
I'm so careful with my info that my name doesn't even appear on my Windows license or my internal computer information. There are too many bad guys out there!

it is free and there is no referral tree or something similar...so I don't benefit by sharing it with everybody....like I already mentioned...
