My mother taught me to sew when I was very small, I was only about three when she started and of course it took years to get any good, but I'm always grateful that she started teaching me the basics at a young age.
When did you learn to sew and who taught you?

My mother and grandmother taught me when I was smaller. Just simple stitches etc...and how to do embroidery...but then when I was in seventh grade we had sewing and I learned how to use a machine etc...cut patterns. I only really sew table runners and quilts now but once upon a time I did alot of sewing!

I don't think that many kids get taught to sew at school any more, its a real loss I think. I wish I had more time to sew.

I've been sewing since I was a little girl and my grandmother started to teach me. It was mostly hand sewing, and then when I was old enough I was in a 4-H sewing club and continued with that until the age limit for being in 4-H. I didn't get to use the sewing machine itself until I was about 8, and gram made sure she was sitting right beside me till I learned how to watch my fingers lol. My Mom also was a sewer, so I learned lots and lots of handy tricks from her. Learning to sew was one of the most useful things I have learned in my lifetime. I made my kids clothing when they were small, and my own sometimes, and without sewing I wouldn't have learned about making curtains, slipcovers and all. I still sew my own drapes and slipcovers. Clothing I don't do as much of, mostly just shirts and shorts for summer. I made sure that both of my girls learned how to sew, and hopefully we'll pass this along to the grandkids. Even a guy should learn how to replace a button or two and do a basic repair lol.

I started sewing when I was 11 or 12 years. My aunt use to make curtains, and we did not have a sewing machine so I had to sew the hem. When I got to age 18 I became fascinated by sewing. On my first job, the first thing I brought was a sewing machine. I don't sew as much now because my kids are grown so no more cute little dresses. I usually make curtains and pillows for my home.

my grandmother taught me to sew when i was just a little girl i always like to watch her make quilts and i decided that i wanted to make quilts too but i was too little to work with a big quilt so she started me off just making a stuffed teddy bear she showed me where and how to place the needle and she made me wear these medal things over my fingers so i would not get stuck with the needle after i finished the teddy bear she gave me some fabric with a carosel horse on it that i turned into a pillow
