I'm on the loo!!!

So on a couple of occasions I have been in the bathroom doing my business lets say and my phone has rung. I immediately press the busy button as I don't want to have a conversation with someone whilst I am in my bathroom. If it is that important they will either leave a message or call me back later. I would be so embarrassed if they were to hear anything like the toilet flushing or worse, no matter who it was! I am sure nobody would want to know where I was either, would they?
Would you or do you answer your phone whilst on the toilet?

I don't usually take calls while I'm in bathroom, just occasionally for near and dear ones. It's embarassing as well as risky, just recently I dropped my phone in a tub full of water. Most of the time I miss calls if I'm in toilet because I don't carry mobile inside.

Hi ya metrobelle
A friend of mine dropped her mobile down the toilet because it was in her back pocket! I never keep my mobile in my back pocket always my front pocket not just for this reason but I think it would be harder for pick-pocketers too! I keep it in my pocket rather than my bag because then it is on me all the time and there is nothing worse than fumbling around in your handbag looking for the phone by which time you have probably missed the call!!
Thanks for your response

Ok this one is a big one in my house, I am totally against this. (its my private time) although my husband i think feels the need to talk to someone while he is on the toilet. Like he is way to bored just sitting there and getting the job done. No he has to make phone calls to family, friends, utility companies you name it. Also for the people that he knows like family and friends he makes a point to let them know what he is doing. I work in retail and i am there 95% of the time by myself so my husband will call, he automatically says yea had to go to the bathroom thought i would give you a call and see what you where doing. Then FLUSH. Potty time is over and so is the phone call its crazy. I think it is so rude to be in the restroom and on the the phone no matter who you are talking to.

Hi ya cassiendustin and welcome to myLot
That is sort of funny but like you say, rude, too. Actually I would feel a bit insulted if my husband only thought about giving me a call whilst he was in the bathroom doing his business!!
Thank you for your response and happy mylotting

hehehe..sounds very funny humbug25! Honestly, I sometimes answered the phone even when I am in toilet especially if my husband will call me. But if other people will call, probably not. It's too embarassing if the other person on the line would find out what I am doing.

well, there's only one place where I am afraid to answer my husband's phone call and it is if I am in the public places like mall, at the jeep or on the street..hehehe..

Yep I do answer my cellphone if I am on the loo. But it depends on whom he or she is. If it is a family member for example my wife I would answer it. If it is someone whom I am not that familiar with I would not. I know that my wife is rather busy at work so i have to answer her quickly. Usually it is a hi and a bye conversation because she cannot waste time at her place of work.

Well personally I take the phone with me everywhere in the house I go. I have a very bad heart condition and need the phone handy at all times. I have several friends that call and we have really long conversations, so if one of us has to go to the bathroom we go. Going to the bathroom is a part of life. If I am in there and I get a call and it is some business or someone I don't know then I don't answer but call back. My hubby has the tv going in the living room and at least in the bathroom I can hear what is being said. There seems to be peace and quiet in the bathroom where you can't find it any other place in the house. I think I could sit in there for hours, not having to hear the tv blaring or the grandkids running in and out. I love to soak in a hot tub and talk to my friend, I guess I am different, I don't view going to the bathroom as something to be ashamed of. Like I said part of life.

Hi there bdugas
Well I totally get where you are coming from when you say about it being very peaceful and being able to spend hours in there. My dad used to have shelves of books from the ceiling right down to the floor in his toilet so that anybody always had a peaceful place to go and have a quiet read.
Thanks for your response

hi humbug, what an interesting topic! i'm like you and most others that have responded. i feel very uncomfortable talking on the phone while on the toilet. even if the person on the other end doesn't know it, i still feel very awkward doing it. so i try to avoid it as much as i can.
but you know what? my wife occasionally sleeps over at her sister's house and there's no alarm clock in the bedroom. so i would become her alarm clock in the morning. she would want me to call her at a certain time and then snooze for a few minutes, so i would have to call her again sometimes more than once. i would tell her that i need to take care of business in the toilet. she would say it's ok, just bring the phone with me and call her back in 10 minutes.
we would argue back and forth. i would tell her i wouldn't feel comfortable talking when sitting on the toilet. she would then say it's ok, it's just her. so i would have no choice but to do it. to make matters worse, sometimes she would tease me saying "hmmm... what's that smell?" or something like that.

I can't do it. My sister and I have very long conversations and I know she is in the bathroom when I hear her echoing and the sound of water; yuk! I don't know how she can do that. I would rather put someone on hold while I finish my business.

I don't usually bring my phone when I'm in the bathroom but on the rare occasions that I do so, I answer my phone and just prevent myself from making a sound so embarrassing.

I don't know. I have not made a habit of this but if you're in an important conversation and you have to go ... I don't really know what I'd do. It IS a natural function and it's not like it's something not everybody does.

I never take the phone in the bathroom with me. Sometimes you just need some privacy. The phone call can wait. I used to work with a man that always talked on the phone in the bathroom right next to his office. He would just drag the corded telephone with him into the bathroom. It used to be so embarassing when you'd have to call his office to give him a call of ask a question and you just knew when he was in the bathroom. What a nut case.

Hi,
It is really funny to hear, I always keep my mobile outside, i mean in room when i use the rest room. So i don't have to worry actually, If i get messages i will reply, i have any missed call list, i will call back. The issue is very simple to handle. And don't worry, your people may not be able to locate you exactly, because they may think that they are different sounds not exactly the one that happens in your loo.
