Well; let's see here; It is now -8F here in Minnesota. Heavy winds bringing the windchill to -35. An inch of fresh snow that fell over night. A snowblower that won't start, two layers of clothing, two pair of gloves, and one steel snow shovel; and your's truely, Grandpa Bob. Add this all together and it makes for one tired frozen; popsicle like; old weary man this morning. It took me three trips outside in this biting frigid cold to finish my snow shoveling by hand. Normally a half hour or 45 minutes is all it takes. I love my snow and cold, but I am looking forawrd to the weekend when we finally get out of these below zero temps and the biting winds will be gone also.

I am so sick of this cold! I wonder how they even live up in Alaska.....I am ready to move to Arizona to my youngest daughters! LOL...my car wouldn't start....so the neighbor was over snowblowing and he came and gave me a jump. It was my day off so I slept in which probably lead to the not starting....my car is only two years old so the battery should be fine.....all I know right now is that Arizona is looking mighty good!

Bummer. I start mine a few times during the day to be safe.
I took a nap this afternoon then was awakened by our son visiting for an hour or so. I can handle the snow and cold, but please let up on these winds Mother Nature. Please?

It is very pretty looking although it is very frigid out.
I don't mind the cold and snow, but this wind is the worst actually.
So I am enjoying it to a point anyhow. Thanks.

Hello Grandpa Bob boy does that sound cold there!!! I am in Cleveland Ohio right now and I think with the wind chill it's around -3. The snow is falling so fast here you cannot even tell where I snow blowed an hour ago. I hope that you get your snow blower fixed soon!!!

I find your post interesting because I don't live anywhere near you and right at the moment we're having the same temperatures. We have a ton of snow in fact they have no where else to move the snow to. They are trying to keep our streets somewhat clean but this is a lot to deal with. We're also promised nice weather for the weekend so I'm very happy about that as well. Have A Great Day.

I am starting to have that issue with where to place the snow I remove from my driveway. Already the snowblower can't blow it high enough to get it over the small mountains alongside my driveway. I have to wait for a warm day then break down the piles along the driveway to make more room. January is our normally heaviset time of the winter for snowfall. Thanks and stay warm.

That is crazy. I sure hope you get your snow blower going soon. That's too much in those cold temps. It's really cold here today with some snow, but tomorrow we will get the same temps as you have today. I'm staying in. My husband is out with the snow blower right now. Our weekend looks better too. I can't wait.

I love the snow. I saw your discussion about the weather and did not respond as I had this one which answered yours basically. Stay warm.

I feel for ya, Grandpa Bob!! I don't think I'd venture out in the cold to shovel snow..I'd just let it wait!!! It's cold here today...26...and it's going to be 5 in the morning. Ok, I know these are laughable temps to you, but to me...it's freezing!!! We have no predictions of snow ( thank goodness). If I were you, I'd snuggle up on the couch with a warm blankie and a cup of hot chocolate and watch a good movie.
Hmmm...that's what I should be doing!

I had to remove it today as the next two days will be even colder with lows in the -20 range. Highs -5 below as well. So I did it to avoid doing it tomorrow in even colder air temps etc.

Even though I live in a city of 60,000 the mail boxes are like a rural route. They are on the side of the roads. So our mailman drives and lowers his window to stick the mail in the boxes. Now traffic cops have a rough time being in this cold, then having the winds from passing cars etc blowing in their faces.

Yes you did have your share of Cold temperatures there this winter, and I am hoping somehow when Spring comes to you you all are rewarded with a decent Spring and not too warm of a Summer as well. It is hard to be able to enjoy weather like this for sure.

Brrrrrr! We are having a cold snap too. Fortunately it isn't as bad as where you are. But, it is cold enough to freeze the breath in your nostrils! I keep bundled up! When the temperature dips to the single digits I wear my heavy coat with a hood, a scarf, gloves, boots, heavy socks and sometimes a sweater too. I really don't care to wear such heavy gear, but it is necessary when you are outside in such cold weather.

Yeah, it's a tad cold here. I survive as I am used to it though. I hate when my breath freezes ionto frost on my mustache when it's this cold though.

Eeew I thought it was cold here in Ohio but you have it worse (please don't send it this way). We dont even bother with snow clearing, we park the 4WD under the deck and dash in the house the drive is on a hill and so far the 4WD has managed it. Deep snow does make the trek to the mailbox fun though but when it gets too bad the bills can wait! Your right about the wind I was out hauling wood and although very cold the wind was still so it really wasn't too bad (relatively speaking) roll on the snowdrops peeping through.

Yeah, hypothermia and frostbite are the two major things to watch for in these type of conditions. I do not stay out very long when I do go out. I stay out until I feel a bitter coldness on any exposed skin. Too long and the skin freezes. So I stay safe and bundled indoors most the day in this weather.

Hey Grandpa Bob! That sure doesn't sound like much fun! I
do hope you get a break from the temps and the snow shoveling
for just a bit so you can thaw out! That is really cold!
We are getting the below zero temps here now too! But not
quite as below as you! At least I hope not! I don't want to
leave the apartment until Spring! And it isn't too warm in
here either! I spend the day in the kitchen/office sitting
right next to the oven! I knew putting the computer in the
kitchen was a smart move! I have the oven right next to me!
Stay warm GB!

I will get the thaw out this weekend with temps in the 20's and 30's thankfully.
That will just make for a sloppy dirty weekend as well. Oh well.

Hey Grandpa Bob. You have my sympathy. It's been years since I lived in Wyoming, but I haven't forgotten the winters. In fact I miss the snow and cold. Just not the frozen pipes, snow shovelling, and cars not starting. Bon courage!

huhhh... it sounds really cold for me out there... we don't have snow here even in winter and the coldest temperature i had ever experienced is 0 degrees celcius... even then, i had shivered really badly and i don't dare to go out from the house unless it is really necessary... so kudos to you grandpa bob for still being able to go out for three times to do shovelling... please take care though and make sure that you don't get frozen out there... take care and have a nice day...

What? No photo?
It was so cold this morning - How cold was it?
Stop interrupting!
It was so cold this morning I had to keep my hand over my mouth on the short walk to the policing centre.
- Why didn't you breathe through your nose?
Couldn't... nose hairs froze...

I couldn't breath as my mustache was caked with at least an inch of frost from my breath freezing instantly. I could spit and it froze before it left my lips.

I hope you do not get to cold. I hope your dad can stay inside so he will not get cold. You be careful out there in the cold.
You said there is a law against using tire chains in Minnesota what do they use to keep the tires on the road for traction?

This is more like a "BITING" cold as opposed to freezing cold.
It's done and I am not going outside till tonight when I go get my wife.

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
You really should be indoor in the warmth, you are doing far too much and should ask someone to help you clear the snow, take care and wrap up warm.
