Both of my girls were born with a headful of hair that required alot of attention from birth. I started putting their hair up when they were just a few months old. My six year old was really good for a while but then became a terror while I was washing and fixing her hair. She still to this day ouch's me to death twice a day over the hair. My two year old on the other hand will let me wash and fix her hair without making the first peep of protest. Sometimes I feel like getting a tape recorder and recording, "sit still and it won't hurt" and just turning it on to repeat while I'm dealing with the older one. Do any of you have girls that make a huge scene every single time you wash and fix their hair?

Hi ya psspurgeon1
Well I think I am lucky that I have all boys!! Literally in the morning they get up get ready and go, no hairbrushig involved as their hair is so short! The all went for a stage of protesting when I washed their hair when the water and shampoo went over their faces but I caried on and they go over it. All I can suggest is getting her hair cut into something sweet and girly but way more managable - life is too short to be fighting with your daughter about her hair it must be so stressful!!

Yeah, in the winter I cut it to just above her chin and in the summer I let it grow for a pony tail. Either way is an ouchfest. I think it's just her nature. I think she is just so tenderheaded that even though it is not tangely or hard to care for, she just can't stand to have it touched. I tell her often that if I don't wash it and brush it daily she will have alot more problems as it would be dirty and hard to brush but nothing works. I just like to share my issues on some things with other lovely people who understand! Sometimes, having a boy doesn't sound so bad!!!

I have two girls one is almost 5 the other a few months off turning 3 they BOTH cry moan and shout when im doing their hair despite my every effort to be gentle and I use a detangling spray, the eldest is more prone to crying about it if she is tired though!
As for washing hair eldest has always been fine youngest will get hysterical unless you allow her to cover her eyes with a flannel (I dont get water in their eyes but she panics a lot) and then she is really good sits still and doesnt moan

Well then, you know exactly what I'm dealing with! I guess my youngest is just a hard head like her mama! The sixer must be a weenie like her daddy! BTW, your daughter in the pic is adorable. My babies pic is on my profile! Thanks for your response!

Oh yes, I have had to deal with the fine and the curly. Not with my girls, but with family members and it was a pain! I definitly feel for you. Welcome to my ouch club. I'm just grateful that my two year old is really docile about her hair. I could pull and tug to get any hairstyle on her and she won't even bat an eye. Tough cookie! Well, thank you for your response and bless you for your fine/curly!

My daughter is 6, and how much of a fuss she makes depends on her mood at that time. If she is excited or really wants to go somewhere, do something, she will brush her own hair, getting the tanfles all out, without a fuss at all. If she is in one of her stubborn moods, which can be quite frequent, she will ouch, yell, cry, shake her head around to make it worse, whatever she thinks she can do to try avoiding having to brush her hair.

Now Tate does sit still for the most part. If she moves it is very little but she squirms her butt and whines. I don't know what would be worse, the whining or the moving. It's just crazy what their logic is at this age!

I have a neice with really curly hair, who will start with the ouches before the brush or comb even touches her hair. I think it's because when her "mom" was actually around my brother had to tell her all of the time to even brush it, and even then she wouldn't put what she needed to in her dry hair to make the brushing easier on the baby. When she's at my house, I keep detangler and a shea butter conditioner called Cantu (it's heavier than a spray conditioner but light, smells like cookie dough), I also like VO5 Detangle And Shine because it's detangler and very light conditioner in one. These help to keep away the ouches, and she trusts me to brush her hair more. Everyone's always complimenting on how her hair smells good and looks healthy, and shiny while not being too oily. A plus to this is that she has never gotten lice. I used to work in beauty, so I always had a lot of people asking me advice on doing different types of hair, and tons asking me how to keep lice out of their school aged children's hair. The VO5 was a huge hit, because you can use it in any hair type. Some kids just hate having their hair combed though, and eventually will grow out of it. My neice really only likes for me to comb her hair, she runs from everyone else and cries lol.

Tatum has really healthy, shiny, supersoft hair. It is a pleasure to brush and look at. There are very rarely tangles. I have always done her hair on a regular basis. I don't know what her deal is. I guess she just has a super sensitive head or something. And that is EXTREMELY interesting about the lice prevention. We (knock on wood) haven't had to deal with that but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. So the VO5 actually helps to repel it? Very cool. I bet I will be switching her brand soon. Like tomorrow! Very handy tips. Still not quite sure what to do with the ouches though. I guess I'll just vent! Thank you for your response!

I think it just depends on the person. I don't have kids, but when my sister and I were little we were complete opposites. Me, you could yank all my hair out and it wouldn't hurt (I have a hard head, haha) and would often brag about this by demonstrating when my sister would complain. lol
My sister would CRY and scream if you even so much as brushed her hair the wrong way. I remember my Grandma could stick her hands in scalding water and not even flinch. I tend to be the same way with hot water. It doesn't bother me much unless it's hot enough to physically burn me.
Everyone is just different. I guess you just have to be patient with the sensitive ones!
