My husband always says "nature is god" whenever i ask him to take me to temple, he immediately says nature is god, instead of going to temple, why don't you go to the backyard and plant some tress or plants or water some plants. Most of the time it irritates me. because I believe in god and he doesn't.... "Nature is God" what do you think guys????

Yes Gowri! Your husband is very correct in his opinion! Nature itself is the most expressed form of God. What we worship in temple is a symbolic image of a popular concept that has been framed with many rituals and religions, to be declared as God. I am not saying that worship in temples is bad or avoidable! Beyond this, Nature is the supreme and if we care and protect Nature in our daily life, then that will be a real worship to God in practice! Thanks for this nice discussion and have a good day!

thumbs up to your husband. All gods are our own creation. Earlier all of mankind worshiped nature & slowly we gave god different forms & these forms have passed down from generations to generations.
Even i believe in god, but why do we feel the need to go to church, temple, mosque to pray. Doesn't god exist everywhere? even within oneself ?. Scientifically it may be better to go to temple as one will benifit from the positive energy of others who are praying, but the same effect can be had fron praying in the midst of nature too.
Let me give you an example that you may relate : Hindus are expected to do sandhyavandhan(evening prayers) in the midst of a river. SuryaNamaskar(Prayer to sun god) is ideally done on a river bank.
Prayer has great bearing & value if you know the meaning of it & do it with dedication.
All said & done, i confess that i do not approve of your Husband's attitute towards you. Going to temples together is a good way of spending quality time. Giving in to each other, is the essence of marriage.

seems youve not studied....hm im not sure how to be nice about this........
Just because your husband does not believe in the bible god does not mean he doesnt believe in a higher power. His higher power is mother nature. Gaia. Im willing to bet hes pagan.
We believe in nature as in the what gives life... We very much believe in a higher power. after all how can the wonders of nature exist without it. and "God is nature" means that God and Goddess are in all. The trees, the ants, humans, they are part of all of us. Therefor hes correct in HIS believe which are obviously not yours (nothing wrong with not sharing the same believes) but in his believe its very proper to even worship in the bedroom because after all the spirts are part of everything. So you can worship the creators anywhere since they are in everything. How can they create such wonders and not be part of them?

Well I agree 100% with your husband. Set aside the argument whether or not god exists/ has created the universe, the thing is, it's nature which has been provided to us by god or life or whatever you believe in. So as long as you are planting a tree and caring for it, or whenever you''re feeding a bird, you are in fact, serving God.
It is as Swami Vivekananda said, "He who serves living things, serves god."

I think your husband is right in his own way.His logic might be that creation of God is nature and it can be enjoyed in its true sense .Nobody has seen God but experienced His presence in all the the things He created like human, animals, nature etc.But nature's bounties can be seen and enjoyed by eyes,so because of this reason he might be telling you to get the idea "nature is God."

Nature is God is one way of looking at things! In fact there were quite a lot of cultures earlier which did think of Nature as God.
Why go that far? Even today in our culture and religion quite a lot of Gods and Goddesses are based upon natural forces!

One of the best pieces of advice I have ever come across. He is not only reiterating a profound truth, but actually contributing to the preservation of nature and our environment. And if you have children, I really wish more parents were like him. Instead of teaching children at school the values of protecting the environment, we would do better to start at home.
As for your beliefs, you are very much entitled to believe in God but it is equally essential to protect nature, without which even God cannot save us.

Nature is God!! God is everything and all things wrapper into one. God is the air we breathe, the close we wear, the trees that give us oxygen, GOD IS ALL!!
If it makes you feel uncomfortable to have him tell you this then just tell him or go without him.
The Bible tells us that the Body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit thus no matter where you are, there is temple. But if you strive for the gathering of the brethren then by all means let it be known and go.
I truly am sorry for your dilemma but please try to have a great day!!

that is what my husband's argument is.. We have a holy book called lalitha Sahasranamam which is in Sanskrit. My husband know sanskrit. In that book, what we believe is lalitha means goddessess and we worship her but what my husband says is, lalitha in sanskrit is universe not an idol...thanks for responding

Why dont you just go to temple by yourself? If you feel that you really need to go, why not go then?
I agree with your husband that nature is part of something holy...and he has a point, if you believe in Christ many was the time he held "church" outside. The building, or place your in shouldnt matter if you feel you need spiritual communion. If you need to go to temple than go....I dont understand why your husband has to take you though.

This is a good explanation of the god concept, in my eyes anyways. Ideally "god" should consist of everything, no just one being separate from the rest of existance (such as humans, animals, nature, and what not). "God" should not be separate, but contain all of these things. Ideally if nature is god (and by nature one means all things), then nature is the true meaning of god. It seems you both believe in god, just what this person or thing is is different to each of you.

Well that´s an interesting viewpoint although it´s one I most certainly don´t share. For me god is the creator of all things, god is therefore the creator of nature. Nature has no intelligence, it is merely a bunch of processes set in motion by the one and only god. Hope that answers your question.

I have to say I agree with him, but don't agree with his view point on how much God means to you. Nature is God. Creator and man is the monitor of all on earth. So yes in a sense, nature is God because that is God's plan for mankind to take care of the earth.
But, there is always a but isn't there, his view on the importance of religion to you, he just doesn't understand. A person can be spiritual without belonging to any form of organized religion; however, if temple is what makes you feel better. What gives you the warm and contentment, then he needs to understand that.
Nature is God, that is true. But worshipping him, in his house, that is what gives a believe true peace and contentment. Maybe talk to him and tell him that this is what YOU need. He doesn't have to understand it because you do.

Well I think your husband is partially right. I mean supposidly God created all of the earth, so I guess that being in nature is in a way being in his presence. But if it is that big of a problem with you I think that you should talk to him about it. I think you should have the right to go to the temple if you want to, good luck.

I know that God created the earth and all of nature. So when we are in nature we can see some of the love that he has shown for us. The problem is that in the city or suburban areas, there is so much noise that it is virtually impossible to communicate with God. Many of the ancient prophets when into the mountains to talk with God, because they could separate themselves from the distractions of the world. For your husband's sake, I don't know how anyone can look at nature and believe that it all came from nothing. I don't understand how people believe there is no God that created all things for us. Just keep showing how important God is to you and maybe he will start to see.
