Have you ever noticed how many ads there are
on TV for pills these days? there are pills for depression - pills
for losing weight - pills for more intimacy - pills for asthma - pills
for heart problems - pills for alzheimers - pills for restless leg
syndrome - pills for diabetics, and the list goes on and on, and on.
Whatever happened to eating right, and possibly trying some of grandma's
old remedies - some do work, ya know - - and what about the natural
remedies? What is your take on our "pill - popping" society?
Seems like the doctors don't do anything 'but' write those perscriptions, and
of course the big pharmecuetical companies are getting richer
and richer. The surgeons are over worked, and the hospitals
want to pop you in, and pop you out, like some kind of auto-human
dispenser.

Even if you do not take the pills that are so available over the counter, you are still medicated because the cattle and the chickens that you eat are regularly fed with antibiotics.

How true that is - and what is given to the cattle and chickens
to fatten them up, we eat and then it causes obesity within all
of us!

It's true actually. There's medicine for almost everything. WHich actually explains why the pharmaceutical industry is doing so well. Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with taking pills as long as we don't get dependent on it. Natural remedies are still better. And prevention is always better than just looking for a cure. :)

I agree. And they keep writing these prescriptions without a proper diagnosis. There are so many people on antidepressants today, and their therapist gives them a diagnosis in a matter of a 50 minute session. There is no way to get to know a person's mental state in that amount of time. People fall for it, and become even sicker. It's so sad.

hi classycat,
Yes.I agree today our society has become a over-medicated society.
For anything and everything, people are getting addicted to take medicines.
If you are active, and have a balanced food with simple exercises and good lifestyle,
there is no room for many diseases.
But what many people do is, live much against the healthy way, then take medicines
to recover from illnesses.
Problems like overweight, depression etc are only the result of our own lifestyle.
These problems can be solved by proper food, proper exercise and the proper rest.
We are thankful to the scientists who are inventing more and more medicines
and advanced medical instruments because of whom, the life expectancy of people are on the rising scale.
Only what is required of us is to live a healthy life style and take medicines only when it is unavoidable.
At least, by considering the adverse side effects of the medicines,we should keep the medicines away.
Wish you all a Happy and Healthy life.

Yes, you said it right. We are living in an over-medicated society and doctors are becoming too quick to give us medication that we sometimes don't need. For instance, I cannot take my little boy to the doctor without bringing home more than three types of medicines these days. Most doctors love to give us all types of medications for simple ailments. Personally, I don't really think that we need all those colorful pills.

Well, you can look at this as a pill-poping society or you can be thankful that pharamaceutical companies and found medications for people who are afflicted with these diseases. It is all in the way you look at it. There comes a time that the patient has to become responsible for their own diagnosis and medication. By that I mean they need to do some research and perhaps even get a second opinion and not just go by what the first doctor says. It just takes alittle anitiative and caring for ones own health and life.

While some of the medications may be for superficial "ailments", you certainly can't be calling medications for asthma, diabetes and heart problems as being over-medicated. A proper diet is essential in some of these conditions to make the case for medications less likely but there will always be that portion of the population who will still have to take them regardless.

Yes we are an over-medicated society. As long as the conventional wisdom does not change, doctors will continue to focus and treat the symptoms and not the source of the problem. There are a lot of natural remedies out there that just as if not more effective than those pills you get from your doctors. Doctors do not recommend natural remedies because it does not make the pharmaceutical companies money!

I think some pills benefit some people and sometimes I think that pills are all psycological and people think somehow magically that pills are the answer to any kind of physical or mental problem one might have.

You are for sure right. It is easier for a doctor to write on a piece of paper than to actually really look into helping you without pills. I have had alot of knee problems myself. I would go in to see the doctor about it, now most of the doctors would prescribe me pain pills until one day the doctor I saw told me to go see the physiotherapist. I still need some help with the pain but not nearly as much. Also I have a mother in law that is on aproximately 17 different pills a day. I think that is just nuts. She gets them for blood pressure, diabetes, depression and of course she is on some to counteract side effects from others. My husband however will not take pills and he suffers from temporal lobe seizures and schizophrenia. Go figure.
