Do all 5 year olds know Barack Obama?

We went the pharamcy on Saturday on pick up one of my prescriptions, while my husband and I looked around for a pill planner, the girls went and sat in the waiting room.
The oldest (11) came running over shortly after they sat down and said "Wow, she knows who Barack Obama is?". My husband and I stared at each other for a moment and then walked over. The sound to the TV was off.
We asked her who Barack Obama is and she replied, "Our President". OK now we were curious. My husband went to the news section and grabbed a paper and showed the 5 year a picture of Obama and said "Who is this"?
"Silly that is Barack Obama, our president and his wife Mrs. Obama".
Alrighty, what are they teaching her at school, I didn't know who the president was at her age. She continued to tell us that Barack Obama was going to visit her school so she could meet him. We don't think this is true, but everytime we have contradicted her in the past, she was right and we were wrong.
I sent an e-mail to the school asking them if he was coming, I have not received a response yet.
Wow, I can't believe she knows Barack Obama by picture.

With all the television, newspapers, and magazines covering the election, I don't think there's anyone that doesn't know who Barack Obama is. Kids live and breathe the media. If they don't, they will at least hear the big news from teachers and friends. In this day and age, children are normally more informed than adults and luckily, less biased.

I guess my surprise was because she does not watch TV and well newspapers and magazines are great for my husband and myself but we don't read them to her. I as just surprised, I didn't know who the president was at her age.
We were just shocked. I spoke to the school this morning and Obama is not visiting her school. LOL
