How Long Do You Think It Will Last?

I'm talking about all the hoopla of the inauguration of Barack Obama. We have been forced to watch the pre-inauguration events all weekend and through the day today. Tuesday is the official day of swearing in the new president of the United States and all networks will again be focused on coverage throughout the day. Then Tuesday night we are treated to the post-inauguration day events. Do you think it will end there? Or will we be forced to watch this all week? all month? So my friends I ask you-- when do you think it will end? Btw, I have a nice supply of movies to watch--will be much more entertaining in my opinion.

Give it another week. That is of course unless something major will happen elsewhere, some big catastrophe or something. But it has to be close enough. Even the tsunami in Asia wouldn't have interrupted these celebrations coverages for much. In another week things will die down. People will focus on what he has in store for us, what he can do to help the economy etc. A year from now I expect the American mindset to set in... people, including the media, will look for 'what have you done for me lately?' and take things from there;)

Hopefully after tomorrow or maybe Wednesday they will be finished showing all the recaps. Enough is enough!

I think it will pretty much be over by some time Wednesday. On Wednesday they'll have to recap all the events of the day before, interview those who attended the various balls, discuss how everyone of importance was dressed and all that silly stuff. Then there will, of course, be a huge amount of coverage of everything the new Administration or anyone involved in it says or does for weeks or possibly even months depending on what's going on but this will take place in the usual places, the news and talk shows, so your entertainment shows won't be interrupted anymore. It's interesting that there are some people who are sick of all the coverage and can't wait for it to be over and then there are the political junkies who will have to go through some major withdrawal in the days and weeks to come! I for one don't have to worry about any withdrawal effects from missing any of this political nonsense.

Yeah, you're certainly more of a political junkie than I am. But I think that you will still find interesting things going on in politics. Aren't there usually? It's going to be an interesting four years. I hope that we can count on the press to report all of the gaffs from Biden and all of the failures of the administration like they did for Bush.

Oh annie...I do not think we junkies will have to worry about withdrawal. There will be plenty to keep us busy. Tons of agendas to talk about, bill to disect, then decide if we are going to suppport or oppose...contacting our elected officals to let them know how we feel.....you know back to business as usual.

I totally am wondering the same thing! The other day I saw a 6 hour special called "obama's train ride" or something like that. I looked at the info and it was seriously his train ride! I wouldn't watch stuff like that no matter who the president was! How boring. My mom said she is just trying to find ANYTHING to watch b/c she's so sick of hearing of every little thing he does. I think we will be forced to sit through it as long as they are still getting ratings. I'm lucky that most of my fav reality shows won't stop for this.

Unfortunately the ratings will prevail I'm guessing, but I won't be contributing to them! I saw the listing for the Train Ride event too. LOL. I don't know why they think the public needs to watch that or wants to.

Yeah I was annoyed especially b/c the guide last night SAID all the regular shows were on, but everytime I flipped to 2 or 7 or some other channels, it was all Obama coverage. Couldn't they have updated their guides to say the regular programming wouldn't be on?? Biggest Loser was still on so YAY!

Even Hollywood is going all out. I have to say, I'm a little dismayed by something. I had wondered about this, and I had it confirmed for me by listening to the radio this morning. This inaug. is the most expensive inaug. in American history. And the cost isn't because of all the extra security. It just seems with the economic crisis, with his focus on the global economy, and being there for the "people", that the celebration would be dialed down a little. I know it is history making, him being both white and black, but these preparations have gone way past the last most expensive swearing in. By all means, celebrate and rejoice. But let us not forget the reasons why he became President. The promises he made should have another way of being celebrated other than extreme excess.

That has bothered me as well. Also, most don't keep their campaign promises so that won't be a big surprise. But with the economy as it is, this is just excessive and too much. Also, do you think he will be able to keep the budget in line? I don't! And this is positive proof that he will be a big spender. And for what? Nothing but a total waste of the taxpayers money.

I know his promises were appealing to everyone. But on TV they were talking to a Jewish leader as it pertains to Obama's presence in the Middle East talks. He said what I had been thinking, "Obama is not a miracle worker." I think people are in for a big disappointment if they think he's going to get the nation together 1 2 3. It's just not possible.

That is true. Especially those that voted for him for his color. I know the attitude here in the south is "Obama will take care of us". This is not the attitude people should be having.

i don't think we are forced to watch the events surrounding the inauguration of Obama. we have a choice of watching it or not, so if you don't want to watch it, you don't have to. but yes, i do think that networks will be focused on this historic event for a day or two after the inauguration because once that is done, its all business from there. because of that, i think that's why there's all this pre-celebration because there wont be much time to celebrate after.

I'm not forced--you are correct. That is why I have satellite TV and movies to watch. But when all the networks are focused on 100% coverage that is pretty much shoving it down everyone's throat--don't cha think??

I'm still trying to figure out what makes this inauguration any more historic then the ones before it. Some say it's because he is the first black president, but he's not, he is bi-racial, or some think he will save us from ourselves economically, cant happen in four years. Some say He will make the world love us again by shutting down gitmo or stop the tough interegation that has kept this country safe from another attack on American soil for the past 7 years. I hope Obama succeeds , but if his idea of getting the economy back in line is spending 150,000,000.00 on his inauguration then we are all in trouble.

I know of at least one school that gives children the day off to watch the inauguration...this year. When I was in school, that never happened. I think we will have to go through this at least until the end of the week.

Yeah, I can remember getting to watch the inauguration at school. The teachers all got special permission to bring a TV set, especially if you were in History or political science classes. I hope we are all done with it by the end of the week too--sooner would be better!!

Although I am excited about Obama being inaugurated, I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately there is no telling when all the coverage will stop. Not only is this big news by itself, being the President's inauguration, but being the first African-American President, we are going to be hearing about it for a long while. I'm glad that I have DirecTV, I won't be forced to hear about it everytime the regular stations get going. I can turn to Cartoon Network lol!

Sigh, I don't know, but with every passing utterance of "this historic event", I get more and more nausious. I hope to what ever almighty is out there, that after tuesday, we go back to the business of fixxing and running the country. this has gotten beyond obscene. Only for the position of president, do we have this much fan fare over hiring someone.

So far I've managed to miss just about all of it. I haven't deliberately been trying to avoid it but it's just happening that way. My son called me last night and he mentioned it or I wouldn't have known anything about the concert or all of that bull. I don't watch the news on TV or much of the regular stations. Thank goodness I have satellite.

Oh, without a doubt, it will last the rest of the week - and then some! Oprah has a "corner" on it herself with the whole week planned full of junk and celebrities and famous people. I am so sick of celebrities and famous people being the only ones with a "part" in this. Not that'd I'd want to, but the rest of this nation put that man in office, why is it only the rich and famous that get to go to the party!!! And all this hoopla over what... one man and often not even mentioned that he is the next president of US. Well, I don't remember all this going on for any other presidents!! It has gotten out of hand and so "hollywood" and ornate and "reign supreme" with all the hoopla and everything, it is, in my opinion, really kind of trashing the reason for it all. Kind of making a spectical of the office of presidency. To much pomp and circumstance, bells nad whistles, and hollywood/bollywood treatment for the serious and conveted position that it is celebrating. I'll watch the swearing in and that is it. The rest is just a huge, over-blown rave of a party for a very serious that is being forgotten about while the party rages.

It won't end here my friend, even Fox, has a headline that is title change in the making, going down in history. This will be talked about and discussed in schools and on the news all across America for weeks and perhaps even months to come. The question now is though can he do it? Can he change what is, to something else? WIll he go down as a bad or a good president? Nobody knows, all we can do, fingers crossed and wait in impatient strokes of singing koombiya. well..i am getting off...10 minutes to the ignauguration.

Well I'm hearing some complaints now from some of his supporters. They seemed to think that things were going to change overnight and they are not so happy now hearing that it is going to take some time...even years for things to get better and that it will get worse BEFORE if gets better.

Well you don`t have to watch. You can always find something else to do.d For some people hwoever this is a day they have waited their entire lives for and they deserve to enjoy the moment. As i said in another post about this subject this is a history making moment and due to all of the bad news that is reported everyday for many the only good news they have had. So again I say if you don`t like , don`t watch.

kareng first of all you are not forced to watch it. It is on and you have free choice to turn the station and if you do not get any other stations then you have free choice to turn off the TV. When I got board with it all I did turn it to the TCM station and watched old movies.

You are NOT "forced" to watch anything!!! That's why our televisions have an OFF button. There are plenty of movies that can be watched. (Hope you enjoy them.) I have plenty of CDs & music on my computer. I have numerous games I can play when it gets real bad. I do plan on watching what the festivities will bring today. However, I've seen NONE of what has occurred since Friday. I did the same thing with the Olympics. I watched the Opening Ceremony & then off the TV went until they were completed. We have MORE than one way to entertain ourselves. One of the BEST things about this country is NOBODY is "forced" to do anything!!!

BTW, yes they have spent a lot of money on the inauguration, But how much money has gone into the local economy as a result of the event. They have brought in a lot money. To D.C., Virigina,Maryland, and as far away as Delaware. So, as far as i can see it`s money well spent.
